They are local security, not Oz immigration people....and they are checking that your passport is valid and name tally with boarding pass....so the boarding people can scan and pass quick, no more identity check....

Mostly I reckon it's the lack of communication. The girls didnt seem to be able to relay the correct information. Most of them didn't know their itinerary. They had one person who was able to communicate properly. The immigration lady interviewed each of them and most of them didn't know what to say or contradicted each other.
