just wondering if adding spacer will be good....coz the heat will dissipate towards the windscreen heating it even more. Its ok for afternoon when the weather is naturally hot. But if nighttime...inside cool...outside hot...man, scared it crack all of a sudden when driving.

if I'm not mistaken, the thermometer controls the engine cooling system isn't it? The thermometer broke on my parent's Saga...and the mechanic say it won't survive outstation trip coz the engine won't know when to turn off the cooling when necessary...might freeze some parts...or was it overheat them unsure.gif

yeap... the wind flowing at the bottom do aid in cooling ur engine bay... same principle as the hood spacer thing....

if thermostat damaged, ur water/coolant will flow continuously from engine to radiator and back to engine again... means more effective cooling... at long distance remain 90-100kmh, yes ur engine might be too cold (not till freezing point la, engine still running mah, still producing heat)... but if u blast ur car 140-150kmh, i think will be ok.....
another disadvantage of faulty/removed theormostat is hard to start in the morning.... this is because coolant start flowing and cooling off ur engine before it starts to warm up...

if u want better cooling but yet wont compensate so much of the driveability mentioned above, use lower temp thermostat....

no.. thermometer juz let u know ur current temp.. come on man, u ned +-2degree celcius to freeze water whistling.gif
even ur aircond imposibble to reach that XD
besides, ur engine is creating heat.. n the coolant absorb heat from the engine (a massive heat).. freeze? i doubt biggrin.gif

btw, the thermometer im talking about in the pic is the external thermometer module to test the heat, not the engine heat biggrin.gif

I'm not too sure either...but the mechanic say thermostat is needed to tell engine when to do this, do that...if rosak, better dun use outstation drive. Its still broken now...repair is costly and we don't plan to use that car outstation. Can use my car now biggrin.gif

does that means the flow of the coolant of a car is variable? something like processor where ur proc speed is variable depending on ur load?

mine isn't related to starting the engine...more towards long journeys.

variable as in move or dont move only... u cannot control the fluid speed.... when thermostat opens, the coolant moves from engine to radiator n back to engine again... when the temperature drops to a certain level, thermostat closes and coolant stays wherever it is.... thus, coolant/water temperature remains almost at constant level....

really? wow, i thought it will run no matter the engine is cooled or hot..

Running without thermostat, u are safe with the risk of thermastat spoil and wont open. When this happens, coolant cant flow and engine will overheat to the max then the radiator hose can blow and water spill out.
Without thermostat, the engine will warm up slower and the temp will cant be able to always stay at certain range. If u drive at normal speed the temp might stay low, but if u drive at high speed for long time the temp will raise higher and then very hard to go down. This is because the coolant does not have enough time to cool down at the radiator before going back into the engine water jacket.

Actually for better fuel efficiency and better performance, the thermostat will not open when cold so coolant will not flow. This will makes the engine warm up faster hence save fuel at cold start.
And the thermostat is important to hold the temp at certain range.
Normally our thermostat here is rated at 82degree for it to open.
