For PB Quantum Visa Credit card after 1 September 2019, are all contactless transactions (RM 30 or higher) eligible for 5% cashback? Even contactless transactions for government services, utilities and petrol?

Is it ok to send an e-mail to Public Bank, to ask whether there are any contactless transactions excluded from 5% cashback?

I usually just cancel the transaction after pin and approval, so RM0. 🤣
*
Just to confirm, first, you insert your credit card into the credit card terminal. When the credit card terminal prompts you for PIN, you just press 'cancel' on the terminal, to terminate the transaction, right?

Thank you very much for sharing your clever trick with us. notworthy.gif brows.gif

You do have to key in your PIN, then wait for bank approval before you can cancel.
*
Sorry for the silly questions. I just want to make sure that I have the same understanding as yours.

After keying in PIN and press 'Ok', the credit card terminal will show 'Processing' status. At this point, I should quickly press 'cancel' on the terminal, right?

As such, at rare event when the network is fast enough, the transaction may be approved. But, this is just a small risk to take. smile.gif

After processing, it will show that the bank has approved. Then the screen will show that you can start to pump your petrol. Only then I press the cancel button. Lifting up the pump and putting it back without pumping will also cancel the transaction. I have only tried at BHP and Shell. Try to do it once at Petronas but I couldn't find the cancel button, so in the end I just pumped.

Thank you very much for your in-depth description of your method. notworthy.gif

Since it is approved, a tiny amount of the credit limit will be reserved. Maybe, after the acquirer bank of the petrol station voids the transaction, the credit limit will be restored a few days later. Then again, this is just a very minor issue, that can be neglected. smile.gif

I can understand why Public Bank changes the transactions eligible for cashback, to contactless transactions, for Public Bank Quantum Visa Credit Card. As such, more people will prefer to use this card.

Then again, for Public Bank Quantum Mastercard Credit Card, why did Public Bank remove dining transactions from eligible transactions?

Sigh, another card service tax of RM 25 is incurred, when I need to get another credit card with cashback for dining transactions.

Thanks for the replies, Human Nature, tan_aniki, rojakwhacker, MGM and mamamia. smile.gif

I just have to accept the fact that after 1 September 2019, Public Bank Quantum Mastercard Credit Card is slightly less useful than before.

Based on your good advice, I will just reinstate my cancelled Public Bank Quantum Visa Credit Card, and ensure that all contactless transactions (dining transactions included) are above RM 30, for me to get the cashback.

Cumulative wave count restriction: 9 ---> Need to reset with PIN usage for next tap
Cumulative amount limit: RM 500 ---> Need to reset with PIN usage

Not just Quantum series cards but all PBB credit cards.

Are such contactless limits (9 consecutive contactless transactions, or cumulative contactless amount limit exceeds RM 500) applicable for only Public Bank, or also applicable for other banks in Malaysia?

So far PBB only.
I didn't see this restriction on CIMB and Citibank.
Not sure about the rest.

Offline transaction. Approval code - VIP111.
No realtime verification and no earmark of available credit limit till posting.

*
Why does offline credit card processing occur? It is because at the time of the credit card transaction, there is a temporary loss of internet connection experienced by credit card terminal?

It is quite inconvenient to some of us, when such offline credit card processing occurs. As you said, there is no deduction from the available credit limit of the credit card. Calling the bank does not help at all, because the customer service officer cannot detect such transactions from their system. We can only check the transactions, only when the transactions are posted.

Fast processing no need to wait for approval code.
Quite common at supermarkets, Mr DIY.

But for debit card paywave, it will check if you have enough money in your CASA.

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Aug 25 2019, 09:39 AM)
this is online/offline processing, not necessary related to "internet status".

the terminal still can capture the transaction and approve while in offline mode, just not realtime update to bank/card network.
*
Thanks for the explanation, ClarenceT and cybpsych.

So, as credit card users, we are unable to determine whether contactless transactions are processed online, or offline, right?

From my limited experience of using credit cards, if I tap Maybank credit cards at Maybank terminals (either for Visa Paywave or Amex ExpressPay transactions), the contactless transactions are usually processed online and I can see the approval code on the charge slips.

On the other hand, if I tap Maybank credit cards at Public Bank terminals for Visa Paywave transactions, the approval code becomes VLP111, indicating offline processing.

So, to avoid offline processing, should I need to ensure that it is same bank, both at card issuer side, and card acquirer side? For example, I need to tap Public Bank credit cards at Public Bank terminals, for contactless transactions. Is my understanding correct? confused.gif

This is not exactly relevant to Public Bank Credit Card Thread.

Well, Maxis Pay (https://pay.maxis.com.my) will be decommissioned. If you go to Maxis Pay website, you will see the following message.

Announcement:Ā  We are streamlining our payment channel to make your bill payment experience even better. Effective 1 Oct 2019, you will be able to pay your bill via MyMaxis App and Maxis Online Account seamlessly with single sign-on using Maxis ID. In line with this, Maxis Pay at pay.maxis.com.my will be decommissioned after 30 September 2019. Download MyMaxis App or head to Maxis Online Account now.

Let's hope that we can still get online cashback, if we pay with Public Bank Visa Signature Card and Quantum MasterCard, in www.maxis.com.my.

Post 4 states that cashback is given for online transaction in CIDB portal (https://cims.cidb.gov.my), for Public Bank Visa Signature and Quantum MasterCard.

Well, CIDB is actually a government agency. Since government-related payments is excluded from online cashback, I have some doubt in using Public Bank Quantum MasterCard for online transaction in CIDB portal.

I do not think that anyone here has posted the Merchant Category Code for CIDB portal.

Has anyone managed to get online cashback in CIDB portal, with their Public Bank Visa Signature and Quantum MasterCard, after 1 September 2019?

Thank you for your information. smile.gif

why not asked the person who reported it?

you were asking questions back then.

Yes, I am aware that tan_aniki answered my question about CIDB. smile.gif

It was year 2017, which is about two year ago. If tan_aniki had the MCC, tan_aniki would have posted it here.

tan_aniki should not be only one using Public Bank credit card to pay CIDB, thus I pose the questions in general to anyone here.

As we all now, it is too bad now that Public Bank stops giving cashback for government-related transactions [MCC 9211, 9222, 9223, 9399, 9311, 9402, 9405], ever since 1 September 2019.

I am hoping there is a remote chance that non-governmental MCC is given for CIDB transactions.

Anyway, since we do not know the MCC, it is best for me to use UOB Yolo Card to pay for CIDB transactions early next month, just to be on the safe side.

More cut expected in 2020-2021 when the interchange fee reduced from 1.1% to less than 0.5%.

Sorry, off topic a bit, but you mentioned about this in previous version of Public Bank Credit Cards Thread.

Bank Negara Malaysia: The Payment Card Reform Framework

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Based on the Word file provided by Bank Negara Malaysia, the credit card interchange fee shall be reduced to 0.48%, from year 2021 onwards.

Ok, we here do not have crystal ball that can predict the future. But, it is safe to say that the existing cashback percentage and capped amount for any credit cards in Malaysia remain the same for the roughly first 10 months of Year 2020?

Perhaps, around December 2020, we have to face the possibility of the reduction of cashback percentage and capped amount for any credit cards in Malaysia, right?

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion, ClarenceT. notworthy.gif

Judging from the posts here, it seems that many users manage to obtain SST rebate, for new and existing Public Bank credit cards. I understand that the experience of getting SST rebate may vary for different individuals.

This is my dilemma. I have an existing Quantum MasterCard. Recently, I applied for another Public Bank credit card.

SST is charged on the date of the activation of my credit card. So, the date of charging SST is no longer on the next statement date after the date of the activation.

I tried calling Public Bank Customer Service to request for SST rebate, for my new Public Bank credit card. The Public Bank Customer Service Executive said that Public Bank gives SST rebate for only existing credit cards. Cardholders with new credit cards need to pay SST for the first year, before being allowed to request for SST rebate during the second year.

Is what Public Bank Customer Service Executive said true? I have my doubt. I believe that many of you all applied for new Quantum Visa Credit Card, and managed to get SST rebate for the new credit card.

Thank you for the clarification. notworthy.gif

Please correct me, if I am wrong.

Public Bank is special in this matter, that the Public Bank Cardholders can choose any date within a calendar month as their statement date. As we all know, other banks tend to have specific statement dates.

As long as Public Bank customer service executives does not oppose your choice of your desired statement date during your telephone call, you are good to go.

However, you have to be firm in changing your statement date, as Public Bank customer service executives tend to initially discourage you from changing your statement date.

It is quite reasonable to say that PBB internet banking system and mobile banking system are somewhat outdated, compared to the systems used by other banks in Malaysia.

PBB cost-to-income ratio is the lowest among all banks in Malaysia. In layman terms, the cost incurred by PBB is quite low compared to other banks in Malaysia, but PBB still manages to generate decent amount of profit.

Sometimes, I do wonder that it is much better for us to be shareholders of PBB, rather than the customers of PBB. Sigh, I just do not have adequate money to purchase PBB shares. sweat.gif

Sorry, off topic a bit.

ā€œPB Everyday Cash Back Visa Credit Cardā€ Promotion

Is it ok to use PBB credit card to reload 8 times of RM 80 to BigPay around 12 am to 1 am, on Monday during the promotional period?

After being posted in the unbilled transaction history, is the transaction date of BigPay Monday, or Sunday?

As a comparison, for any Maxis Pay transaction (https://pay.maxis.com.my) performed before 8 am, the transaction date of Maxis Pay is stated as a day before.

If the transaction date of BigPay is stated as Sunday, the cashback for this promotion may not be given, and the cardholder may need to send e-mails with the proof of SMS transaction times to PB Customer Service, for the reinstatement of the promotional cashback.

Thank you for the clarification. notworthy.gif
