errrr why did you assume "most people" are having statement date middle of the month?

everyone has different needs. some dont care.

usually, the primary reason is to coincide the due date slightly after salary day (again, not everyone's the same, but usually 4th week or even 1st week of the following month!)

if you are a good paymaster, you gain the +20days grace period for payment.

e.g.

gaji day = 29th
cc statement date = 9th
cc payment due date = statement date + 20days = 29th

ngamngam you pay the cc on your salary day.


again, some also dont care and some immediately pay after statement date (those dont feel like having outstanding).

the decision to offer specific statement dates vs open statement dates depends on operational-need and system resources.

if too many cardholders being assigned to 1 single date, then the system will need longer time to generate the statement (and increase in errors and impacting other systems).

spreading out to few selected statement dates makes more sense to offload the system from being too intensive; that is, system only need to generate the statement on specific dates (those banks that offer selected dates)

like pbb, having open statement dates is good to us but also means they need to generate statement every single day.

curious to know: what happened if you choose 29, 30, and 31? if a month does not have 29th, 30th and 31st, will it generate earlier or later?
