IIRC, last month end Lenovo X Citibank sales do include X1 Extreme Gen2, which fits all your requirements and still have headroom for more.

Next week is end of this month, they gonna have sale again, but not too sure if X1 Extreme will be inside the sale list again or not though.

Wanted to ask, is the new AMD mobile cpu are good enough as Programming laptop ?

The reason i asking is laptop with ryzen cpu more likely are reasonable cheap than intel i7 6 core cpu.
*and can't find any good review/debate about it on any forum rathen then their's desktop cpu

Ryzen mobile APUs are at best only quadcore though.

Their performance do trail quite close to what Intel’s quadcores can offer in single threaded tasks, while at scenarios beating Intel in multi-threaded tasks.

The deciding factor here is whether you need the more powerful GPU that Ryzen APU offer or not.

Lenovo Legion Y740 15 81HE007EMJ, Y740 15 customize

Not Y540 ya (since you want TB3)

If you want business grade can consider Thinkpad X1E G2 / P1 G2, however thermals are worse

Want to upgrade from Compaq XP laptop (10 years old). The user is still quite satisfied with it, except that when opening multiple programs, it is laggy and fan noise too loud. (She is very hardcore, her phone is Redmi note non-4G, car is Kancil 20 years old)

Budget to upgrade: <RM2500
Expected improvement: not laggy, lighter weight, same 14" screen.

I suggest to her to get an Win10 laptop with i5, 8G RAM, 256GB SSD.
(her old laptop HDD is 320GB, and she's a little concern with 256GB SSD, because she knows that Win10 eats up much more space. She is okay to save movie files to a portable HDD)

Saw Lazada / Shopee selling Acer Swift 3 SF314 for <RM2300, which I think fulfill all her requirements.

Any better suggestions?

No preferences on weight and battery life? Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable RAM?

10 years Win XP laptop also satisfied (>2kg, TN low-res screen, small RAM), I think above issues not a problem.

The package quite appealing tbh honest on the AMD side. But The multicore score of the intel what make it more suitable to compiling a heavy load programming can be more faster.

Y530 is a real performer. It steadily outperform other devices with the same specs (if you’re not aware, same specs/processors device can have huge differences in performance simply for its design/thermal performance).

And it is last gen (not that it actually matter apart from the GTX1050TI refresh to GTX1650 in Y540/Y7000SE), yet still performing better than many this gen devices.

It depends on TDP config...many models with Ryzen mobile APUs have higher power limits, therefore faster in prolonged load. Whereas many Intel models have 15W PL1

That model is Clevo NH58, can buy from Level51 (Forge 15) with 2 yr local warranty. China brand might use lower quality RAM+storage
