Since it's for engineering studies I would suggest getting something with good CPU performance (I don't know what programs you'll be using though). You prefer non gaming laptop more?

Non gaming:
Lenovo Thinkbook 15 customize (10210U, 8GB, 500GB, IPS, 57Wh, AX WIFI - upgrade SSD later): apply code LENXCIMB
Lenovo Thinkpad E595 customize (3500U, 8GB, 500GB, IPS - upgrade SSD later)
Huawei Matebook D 15
(there aren't many decent 15 inch non gaming options tbh)

Gaming:
Lenovo Legion 5 AMD customize (4600H, 16GB, 256+256GB, 1650, 80Wh): apply code LENXCIMB

Regarding on the swift 3 ryzen model
Right now malaysia set is only comes with ryzen 5 4500U
Can that be upgradeable to ryzen 7 4700U?

I already have a desktop for gaming and video editing
Buying a laptop so i can bring it along when i go travel or go outside
Main thing i will be using would be
-Lightweight work (words, excel, etc)
-Watching video (Netflix, YT, etc)
-Medium weight Tab Browsing (I Might run quite a number of tab, few are quite extensive as the data are updated every few minutes ) - can this laptop handle? -Will upgrade to 16GB likely
-Video rendering - this part i am not really sure, as cpu were fine, but not sure about gpu, then i am not sure will it reduce the lifetime of it if i do much rendering

Kindly help
The main reason why i go for Swift 3 is mainly because it seems very light, previously my laptop are kinda bulky
Or suggest me any lightweight, ryzen preferably (price and cost effective)

Thanks!

Was going to suggest Thinkpad with Ryzen 4000 but no idea when they will be available. The current (old) Thinkpads all have inflated prices so not sure whether you want to buy it now

Swift 3 SF314-42 still don't have 4700U model. 99% laptops have soldered CPU, same with Swift 3

Note that not all models have upgradeable RAM, including this Swift 3

Are you able to wait further?

Slim 7 is below 1 level of XPS IMO, more like a mid range product instead of high end. Slim 5 is 'budget' but not low end

Someone recommend me Illegear IONIC 14. Is it good?

Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable RAM?

Also, able to wait longer?
