anybody heard metallica's live in lisbon recording?

james seems to be working on his vocals, they're sounding better now, but there's something about the guitar tone i don't like, but i can't describe what.. a little bit too bassy.. and lack of treble.

guitar tone?
i know metallica has ditched all that down tuning crap on their last few albums.
on the new album they've gone back to their old 1/2 step tuning.

the tuning's alright, it's the guitar tone that sounds a wee bit out.. lack of dimension.. imo.

yeah, i have the video. agree that the sound is a wee bit too bassy, but then again, they never sound the same on each live performances. "no leaf clover" sounds pretty sweet without the orchestra. kirk also tries to prove once and for all he can still do solo on clean biggrin.gif. "look ma', no wah"

anyway, it's good to see the band that inspired me to play guitar back in action. really missed newsted presence though. the backup vocals is just not the same anymore.

fenders and mesa have different characteristics. . . it's just finding what you like. . . i've tried 1 mesa before. . . when i was just starting out. . . and lacked any technical skills and understanding to know the tonal characteristics of amps. . . it was a combo amp. . . it sounded amazing through the ES-335. . . lol

from the reviews i've seen. . . magazines and stuff give the express good ratings but owners in forums and such tend to give a much less generous review. . .

SG9k is alot. . . no money buy =(

guess i'll just drool at it xD

well if you're serious and passionate about your guitar then i guess investments are just unavoidable? it's like how car enthusiasts spend on cars. . . some find it silly but to a hardcore car lover. . . they find it a worthwhile investment. . .

Anyone tried to put five springs in his/her floating bridge before? Have you heard any tonal changes after the mod?

A friend of mine installed 5 springs in his 2550, and claimed that the tone of his RG changed to a very noticeable amount, he's using stock pickups. I really trust my friend, and he knows his stuff.
After I installed a Tremol-no in mine, I didn't really notice any difference in tone, accept for more tuning stability. I'm using EMGs.
Could it be the pickups?

ooowh u got tremol-no already. but then, if a locked tremol-no doesnt give u any difference in your guitar, i don't think 5 springs would...? might be because of active pickups...

i in fact went from 3 springs in straight formation to 2 stiffer springs in arrow formation. (i followed satriani's configuration actually.) tuning stability improved a little, and double stops sound more in tune. i didn't want to add springs because that would make the trem stiffer.

5 springs may effect the guitar sounds in terms of there's more mass to transfer the vibration to the body.

i've blocked my old grx40 before, and there's truely a different in tone. but i use a wooden block. tremol-no seems to just replace a spring, maybe there's not enough mass to make much tonal difference.

tonally yea should change as of cos theres more mass thats in contact.
also playability will change if you're not used to a fixed bridge, since that comes pretty close.
you should find string bends get harder, as now the trem doesnt lift up to 'help' the bends, like it does if theres only 2-3 springs.
and yea, the EMGs i guess are preventing you from hearing any increase in bass response.

btw, echo.
midi specialist has put another behringer GDI21 up on lelong, this time starting at RM65.
i seriously doubt anyone would bid on it.

for me i use 5 springs on all my guitars. . .

multiple factors tho. . . at first it was for the tuning stability but then i like the extra tension and increased response. . .

tone wise there are slight changes mayb due to the tension or something? and as zero pointed out more transfer?

i dono. . . i just like it. . . and the extra springs give me more confidence in abusing the whammy cause i can feel the weight of it. . .
