I notice that the DDR2 RAM price had increased this week. Is it because of DD3?
Like what happened to DDR1 RAM when DDR2 flooded the market.

Nope, not because of DDR3.

Apparently, there was a surplus of DDR2 due to anticipation of high demand prior to windows Vista. However, when Vista came out and not many people adopted it, nobody wanted to get more rams either......

Now that ram companies are cutting down their production, supply should be less and prices will go up. That's what I think is going on after reading forumers comments up to now.....

Now is the best time to get it. Otherwise, it will be too late. Some shop still selling at RM109~115 for Kingston, Corsair and Mushkin. However, Kingston seems to be increasing and now at RM135 IINM. Better fill up the empty slots now tongue.gif

With DDR3 around the corner, i too doubt there will be a next time. By the time DDR2 hit EOL product, the price will be sky high. Then again, y bank on a dying product? Better to buff up ur wallet for DDR3.

Kingston VR is now at RM135. Corsair still at RM115 IINM, but is limited. Mushkin at RM109. This price is from what I saw yesterday. It seems that Kingston has already increased their price. Just like shawty said, the price will even go crazier in July. Just get it now or never brows.gif

I've mention b4 that by year end, DDR3 will bcome common in the market, and EOL will be put on DDR2. Therefore, now, DDR2 prices will still be tame. By the time reaches Sept, price will go up like end of last year. Everytime, near end of the year, alot of Europe countries and US upgrade their rams, so, with the influx of demand there, prices will rocket sky high.

Although DDR3 isn't as tempting as it seems now due to the loose timing, but it'll be the 'in-thing' for users who r going to play with their new processors, Penryn and also Phenom.

So, for those who can afford to upgrade, its best to get it while its still reasonable now.

As far as I know, DDR3 won't be mainstream untill 2008/2009. Even with that, the prices will still be quite expensive as compared to DDR2. IMO, it is only when many people, if not the majority, adopt DDR3 will the prices start to fall to acceptable/affordable levels.

so for now ddr2 still acceptable and having longer life span la? i mean in terms of hardware trend. like today, people seems to use ddr2 rather than ddr1.

DDR3 will reach official clock speed of 800MHz...that's DDR3-1600 or PC3-12800. But of course, overclocked ones will reach 1000MHz or DDR3-2000 or PC3-16000.

Current FSB (Intel) is only 1333. The RAM will only become mainstream when the FSB can support 1:1 timing with the highest official clock speed, in this case it's DDR3-1600. So, there's a long way to go before DDR3 becomes mainstream.

Do you want to buy DDR3-1333 when it cannot be used for overclocking on CPU with FSB1600? Guess not...

Added on June 26, 2007, 1:21 amHere's the reason why the price of RAM is increasing.

did u mean by year end, ddr3 price will be affordable/acceptable by majority???
that'll sounds pretty nice/good ... if it's true..``  hmm.gif
*
doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif no that is not true. in order for DDR3 to b affordable, the manufacturers have to ramp up the production, and this will not happen this year, or even this year end. u will b seeing DDR3 selling below the price of DDR2 once AMD release its processor with DDR3 memory controller, and that is around next year H2. so, u will b getting cheap DDR3 by 2009 Q1 icon_rolleyes.gif

from wat i can conclude aboves as below..,
so, afterall... ddr2 won't be EOL anytime this year or next yr...
which means ddr2 still remains in production for another 1yr+...`
which also means, ddr2 price won't be keep rising as like ddr1 that already EOL..

doh.gif that wont be lar. u dun get it are u? prices of a product will go down, when manufacturer are making more of that products. if a product is high in demand and its availability is low, then that price will increase.

"If it ain't broken, don't fix it..." Heard that one before? If they are coming out with new models, they are supposedly better...Core 2 Duo is better than Core (1) Duo is better than Pentium 4 is better than Pentium 3 is better than Pentium 2 is better than Pentium (1) is better than 486DX...

Theoretically, DDR3 is better. You can't see it now though. Just wait until DDR3 matures. Same case as DDR2 being better than DDR.

And yes, you need another motherboard. And yes, you will need to reactivate your windows...if you are using a legit copy that is.

Time will change everything. For now only Intel applies ddr3, when it comes from amd's am3 then ddr3 will be mainstream.

doh.gif plz post more useful post plz. DDR3 faster than DD2, doesnt mean it perform faster than DDR2. the current DDR3 perform on par with DDR2, although is is faster.

DDR3 is faster in terms of clock speed...but the memory timings are alot looser than that of DDR2. As the ram tech matures, you can expect the timings to get tighter as what we all saw with DDR2.

In the industry, DDR3 has already been produced. And bcoz as usual, stock is being produced in low volume, cost is high. Therefore, the price for DDR3 now is too costly. However, the fact is, its priced that high, so that, it won't affect the sales of DDR2. All suppliers need to clear their Inventory of DDR2 b4 they starts to stock up on DDR3. Imagine if DDR3 is priced as RM 500 as opposed to DDR2 at the same price, won't users buy the DDR3 for the Bearlake mobo users ?

Anyway, DDR2 prices will keep going up, mayb a little drop within Aug or early Sept, but after that, when its near the holidays, prices will hike as usual.

DDR2 prices drop to an all time low 3 weeks ago bcoz of production of the DDR2 exceeded the demand. So, manufacturers went to produce the thumbdrive's parts and therefore as u can c, thumbdrives prices r also falling.

As for the DDR2's life, it won't end instantly, coz like DDR, it will continue to survive for at least another 2-3 years. But, the price is the uncertain matter.

Since Intel has launched the P35 that supports DDR3, soon DDR3 will become mainstream once AMD's Phenom is surfacing. Correct me if I'm wrong, I remember i read somewhere it says, Phenom is scheduled for this year end release, not sure if i read correctly or not, mayb it was 2008, but i can't b certain for this.

But, as I've mention about the reason behind the high price of DDR3, once AMD launches Phenom, DDR3 will be pushed to be mainstream, in which, all manufacturer's and suppliers will force the price of DDR2 to increase, so that all buyers buys DDR3 instead.

For example now, in the market price, for 512MB DDR, it is the similar as 1GB DDR2, which would u rather buy ? While 1GB DDR is much like DDR2's 1GB Performance RAM prices.

So, for any1 wishing to stick to ur C2D(1066 FSB) or AM2, lets hope for the little price drop in Aug, if its possible.

U can opt for 2GB X 2 also, similar priced to Performance RAMs. But also depends if ur mobo gonna support it or not.

if using 32bit, 2GB RAM is already enough since even u upgrade to 4GB, the system won't able to show you 4GB RAM ngam ngam....

AMD Phenom is schedule in September with new mobo socket. That is all the confirmed information that i have so far. regarding new memory, they is still unsure whether AMD will use DDr3 or rather stick to DDR2. This is might be the same case as the last time where AMD still using DDR while Intel already use DDR2.

I will let you guys inform if i get more information abt AMD Phenom. I might as well bring it to Malaysia soon after it launch as well. Peace.

64bit...some softwares can be run in emulated form. And yes, if you jump into 64bit bandwagon now...you are essentially very good at computers or very dumb.

shocking.gif shocking.gif , are you sure the price will goes up to that high for coming weeks?

Kingston DDR2 667 1GB Highest in Dec06 RM 435. cry.gif
Lowest in Jun07 RM105.
Pricing from LY 2nd Flr.

Price is drifting due to many causes, some said less production, but i think less production (less stock) shud be end of the year most the time.

Due to DDR3 mayb yes, mayb they'll clear old stock 1st then only release DDR3.
But it takes time to change all the available market motherboard to DDR3 Mode,it takes time and energy also.
Sumore Intel(tm) P35 motherboard juz release few weeks ago to hit C2D?
take time to reach DDR3 though.

For the price drop,i think is due to new shipment to Malaysia the DDR2 800 and 1066 Mhz for 2GB capacity per piece.
Even for OCkers,HyperX and XMS now the price is quite cheap can get it for Dual Channel purposes.2 GB kit below Rm0.5k. rclxms.gif

Besides,i heard rclxub.gif also the chip using is diff (low cost chip),but stil can give you same ram value.

For 2GB per peice,
Stil fresh in Malaysia, duno available at market adi onot.
if only it can revolve as fast as 939 to AM2.
haha,peace out!

Correct me if got any mistakes, thanks.

PC fair price doesnt effect hardware. Only pendrive, printer etc. will be cheap.

So grab it now when ram price is still reasonable. It will go higher towards the year end.

eh, i rather buy non-pc fair ler. the reason?

1st, too much ppl hard to breathe, which also means u hard to negotiate price.
2nd, too much ppl, the booth sales ppl wont mind if u dun buy, which also means u cant negotiate price liao
3rd, the price for these internal hardware wont different much from normal shop.
4th, if u wanna buy now, just buy now, dun wait anymore, u wont know what price will it be next few weeks.

*i can see that DDR800 is dropping alot (price lar) while DDR667 is rising, which conclude that in 2-3 months time, manufacturer will produce more DDR800 than DDR667, and this mean u will get cheaper DDR800. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I went to PC fair twice. But I could hardly get the items that I wanted. Most of them were sold off.
Btw since RAM price is increasing, I would defer building a new media PC.

don't expect too much, the only things that in pc fair will drop price is those cd, dvd, mp3 player, keyboard, mouse.... The hardwares won't drop much or slightly expensive than the market price...

Guys,

My sources told me that memory prices are on the uptrend for the next few months. So don't wait if it's urgent, else postpone your purchase till later. I don't think you will get cheap prices in this coming PC Fair (Aug 2007) for memory products: RAM, flash or thumb drives.

Nah, this week price will dip abit, next week is a 50/50 that it'll increase or decrease more. In July, prices is expected to reason abit more, but after that, prediction from suppliers r uphill trend.

For those looking to grab their 2GB , can consider this is the week.

...

it's already july rite?

so from your saying, its either this week, or next week (in case there's a price drop). anytime later than that, and you'll burn more holes in pocket, ait?

I think it only effects on Value the most. High performance part will maintain the price.

yaya... normally only can get a cheap price for computer's accessories in PCFAIR.

Just like Shawty has said, all range of memory will be affected, regardless of Value or High Performance rams.

Look thru the bulk sections, u'll b able to see the difference. Only 3 weeks, the price of the performance RAMs increased by USD 30. Later towards christmas the time, it'll b more scary. This week i can confirm Corsair price dipped RM 5, next week, not sure yet, 50/50 that it'll go down.

nope, the price is not fixed. if a RM200 item, usually can discount RM10-15. i bought a MSI mobo last year, original is RM250, but get RM230. then i go to the other shop buy a Galaxy 7300GT DDR3, i get RM320 original RM350. icon_rolleyes.gif

As long as ddr2 ram still in production the price will still be OK...I think by end of the year when ddr3 becoming popular with cheaper price and ddr2 stop production , then ddr2 price will SHOT UP coz still in demand but less stock available.

DDR3 won't be mainstream until 2008-2009. That's the projection.

I think DDR2 will still be around for a good 3-4 years and maybe longer!!! Of course, DDR2 prices will slowly go up..... sad.gif

This has nothing to do with DDR3 ler.... its a temporary thing.

Basically...

- Q1 result for ram folks tarak cantik
- Naik harga lor..
- Now ngam ngam is slow season so I'm pretty sure the industry will show middle finger to the ram folks
- Me thinks until end of the month before it stabilise.
- Frankly.. prices are memang around the range now lar... last month's prices are lose money type of price that the ram folks sure cannot maintain wan.

IMO, when the DDR3 conquer the market is just depends on its price. If its price drop drastically, sure everyone shift to DDR3.

I mean Gamers with only highest game configuration setting in mind and latest game for sure. Hardcore gamers sure keep up to date to new graphics technology. Yes, u should upgrade to X1950PRO AGP. But sure bottlenecks a lot on ur xp2200.
*
if bottleneck might as well change proc oso.nw am2 sempron 3000+ oni rm110.then u get pci-e mobo + x1950pro pci-e.better performance lidat.

Celeron D400series + Asrock PT880-VSTA + x1950GT + his current DDR1 should cost around RM850. Or just grab ddr2. It seems ddr2 1GB price quite stable now around RM150 and below.

Well, from the looks of things, flash prices will be rising and rising, no end in sight at the moment. So if you are planning to get your thumb drives, hold on first, unless it's super urgent.

The price for high performance part usually not increase too high coz of less demand than value part. That is what i think.

Guys, please have patience. Memory prices will come down, but not immediately (maybe after 60 days).

Even if prices come down or stabilized, you still need to give time to dealers/disty to clear their stocks bought at high costs, coz they sure ain't gonna sell at loss.

But if RM10-RM20 doesn't mean much to you, then buy lah. No point waiting 1-2 months if you are unable to play your fav hi-res games due to insufficient memory. Skip 1-2 mamak sessions lor... biggrin.gif

practically what i think is the supply of ddr2 is reducing due to ddr3 is coming to the market..and make the supply less than demand as many ppl still stick to ddr2 and waiting for ddr3 to be mature......

The ram price is the most annoying thing in this planet, you dont know when it can drop and when it will rise. Its like a sine curve. I hope prices will drop sometime soon, though thats a far fetched hope, the only way is for ppl to boycott the sales of ddr3 so the demand of ddr3 will lessen and the demand of ddr2 will rise. and companies will make huge supplies again. Then the price will drop brows.gif

probably they are cutting down production of DDR2 667 while increasing the production capacity of DDR2 800 and slowly switching production to DDR3. Now they have cleared the stocks of DDR2 667, so the price goes up. anyway, just my assumption.

The only solution is to find the cheapest brand around. Unless if u need to find specific chipset like D9XXX then u need to add some cash.

i don't think so, as i mentioned earlier, when i bought my ram like last week, the price was rm510. now it's nearing rm600..

that applies to all crucial rams i guess...

for others, im not sure, but the possibility is there...

from wat i remember i read from some review about DDR2 VS DDR3 performance.... DDR3 doesnt really worth the price for the performance now...... maybe in future when more mobo and CPU create to fully utilize more of the DDR3... then only worth it....... i cant remember the benchmark links already... hehe.... anyway dont think the price will tremendously reduce in sometime...... maybe in 3-4months later... and tat also when winter christmas is near so everythg of computer hardware will rise again.....

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif Coz DDR400 has lower latency than DDR2. and also, AMD64 is clearly ahead of pentium D in all aspects.

*btw, DDR400 is getting cheaper. bought one 1G kingston at RM195 thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif . but wasnt happy of its overclocking performance although it uses the hynix dt43 chipset. can only go max to 235Mhz. doh.gif

Alrite guys, take note.

Currently this week price will ditch a little, but during the weekend, those going to PC Fair, can expect prices to be around RM 142-143 on the last day for Kingston 1GB DDR2 667. Might go down to RM 140 too, but after that, brace for the hike and start to see DDR3 prices comes down around end of the year to early next year.

Those still wanna grab some cheap sticks, consider the option this week.

But bear in mind, these rams could b using the Elpida chipset. I just got to know that this batch uses the Elpida chipsets. Not the Hynix FP-Y5 anymore.

So, all the best to bargain hunters. icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif

are you on 64bit windows? if you are, then 4GB would be ok, but for 32bit OS, 2GB is ideal.

on 32bit, you really can't utilise 4GB, as the max it can go is like 3.5GB if im not mistaken.

If you see most of the oc'ers here, they're on 1GB X 2 setup...

are you on 64bit windows? if you are, then 4GB would be ok, but for 32bit OS, 2GB is ideal.

on 32bit, you really can't utilise 4GB, as the max it can go is like 3.5GB if im not mistaken.

If you see most of the oc'ers here, they're on 1GB X 2 setup...

PC fair hardly drops the price of hardware ler...the only difference is that they give freebies.

I went there yesterday and ask around for price of ram, thumbdrive etc...almost similar.

SD and DDR chips are rectangular... u see how many partitions are there on the gold pins.... if 3 means it's the old SDRAM if 2 means it's DDR... if the chip is square it's DDR2... smile.gif

The questions is better go 2 512 or I just add 1gb ram?
*
That's not gonna do any good either.
The best method is to sell your 2 x 512mb ddr2 ram and get 2 x 1gb ddr2 ram from the same manufacturer, same speed & same chipset. smile.gif

Crucial vs Mushkin...? i would vote Mushkin EM series... Crucial balistix juz more exp... diff is around RM80... but if mushkin redline series have to compare wif Corsair Dominator.... which i don have and never touched b4... sweat.gif

The problem is not how long the warranty is. The efficiency of the RAM will drop over time.

DRAM suppliers facing price declines in September, iSuppli predicts
Business and Law
By Wolfgang Gruener
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 10:17

El Segundo (CA) – If you are looking to upgrade your PC with more memory, the fourth quarter may be offering enough reason to do so: iSuppli says that September is likely to bring a "price correction" with DRAM prices heading down at a double-digit pace.

A decrease in DRAM pricing was previously expected to happen in October, but iSuppli now believes that prices will begin to fall already in September. The main reason for this decline is a glut of DRAM inventory manufacturers have not been able to get rid off. According to the market research firm, OEMs and the channel are still working on a memory oversupply left over from January. Memory suppliers are expectedto see a drop in demand in the fourth quarter of this year as a result.

iSuppli believes that DRAM suppliers’ profitability will dwindle in the fourth quarter compared to the third, with DRAM prices possibly declining in the double-digit range.

DRAM revenue growth for all of 2007 is expected to amount to less than 2%. However, memory suppliers apparently already reacted to the market environment and cut production during the current third quarter. This move should stabilize prices and set the stage for 2008, for which iSuppli predicts DRAM revenue growth of 17% - despite the fact that global annual bit growth in 2008 is believed to amount to less than 60%, compared to the 97% bit growth estimated for 2007.

well that would be pretty risky but if you can predict the future or if you just have too much money, why not? tongue.gif

AMD wont use DDR3 untill it is mature just like how DDR2 did. the shanghai core of AMD will be supporting DDR3 and it will be out H1 next year. the desktop variant will be around H2 08. so u wont get any DDR3 K10 platform untill mid - late next year.

*by the way, K10 offers 15% average performance increment clock for clock over K8. the performance increment isnt that overwhelming, but its power efficiency is greatly enhanced. it's kinda mix feeling after seeing how this K10 perform.

cuz low yat shops keep loads of stock... cuz got quantity discounts... so most probably they are still selling old stock tat's y price go down slower at Low Yat... tongue.gif
it's not out on value lines yet... unsure.gif  i think...
price drop d lo... sweat.gif
ur mobo support DDR667 meh...? try OC la... brows.gif
most platforms still sticking to DDRII... i don see any platform dropping DDRII yet... unsure.gif
*
of course support la...I use Patriot 667 before no problem...but this kvr...the speed slow down pula...very ionic...1GB of Patriot faster than 2GB of KVR...just because of the stupid KVR running at 533 now...

I cannot OC now, if not my PC will sure hang...not enough power to OC...last time I only add in a ram cooler from AllnGap already hang liao...will not hang after unplug the ram cooler...so will not OC untill I get a higher wattage PSU... icon_rolleyes.gif

for ddr2 mainboards... the most ..most memory supported is 8gb.. some can go 16gb but only with 4gb modules.. but those are rare and expensive.. breach 16gb.. for the moment only viable using EEC registered ddr2/3 or fb-dimms only... with 8/16/32 memory sockets mainboards..

well when is the best time better get it hard to say. if u need it urgently better get it asap. if u r not desperate for extra ram now maybe u can wait. anyway i think the ram price has been slash below 115 mark for 1 gb 667 ddr2. for me it's a good deal.
