Wonka (2023)

I needed this.

I needed this badly.

I am in a point in life where things are taken from me and very little is given.

Seeing Wonka full of optimism and positivity is... refreshing.

Is the movie predictable.

Yes.

Is it a safe movie.

Very.

With all the things happening, you may just want to escape into the wonderful world of Wonka, even if it only for 1 hours and 56 minutes.

Some critic were critical about Timothee singing capability. I found his Pure Imagination very... moving.

Hugh Grant steals every scene as Oomph Loomph.

I am a big fan of Matt Lucas and it is a shame he is in so little of the movie.

If you follow the British series Ghost, you will see alot of familiar faces.

I love this movie and it's fresh breath of air in this really uninspired year for movies.

If Warner's Aquaman 2 does well... it would seem Warner maybe a little ahead of Disney in terms of box office earning (though I doubt completely binging it to black).

I whole heartedly recommend this for everyone.

Young and Old.

My Two Sen.

This is a watchable movie. Just as the title says, it's exactly that but it's freaking intense to see how things unfold. The only let down is how they tie a bow with the ending. I was engaged throughout.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)

So, DCUE has officially ended.

So did it end with a bang or whimper....

Kinda in the middle actually.

There is obviously notes from the higher up to James Wan during production, especially at the beginning of the movie.

Supposedly to reduce Amber Heard's screen time, replacing it instead with more Nicole Kidman scenes.

It was a little clunky....

James Wan recently made an appearance in Malaysia to promote this movie and had gone on the record saying he is ready to return to smaller budget movies, namely horror.

He probably had a tough time making this movie because of notes from the higher up.

Going back to the movie, how did it come across?

A little bit of a mixed bag...

Some parts reminded me of John Carter.

Other parts believe it or not, a little of Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure.

For this movie to work, the chemistry between (believe it or not) Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson (brothers) had to sell.

The actors, just have a very different style of acting and personally I don't think they gelled....

This movie also introduced Atlantis Lost Kingdom...

So the continuity between the first and second is circumspect...

Like movie last few DCEU movies, this movie is reportedly having to reshoot alot of scenes because of notes from the top and that cause the ballooning cost of the movie.

Which is again concerning because that is a big factor of whether or not the movie makes money...

I am skeptical it will.

I will have to say, some action scenes in the movie are spectacles.

I just wish that DCEU highest earning movie, The Aquaman and this has a movie congruent story lines.

My two sen.

Saltburn - In short, this is a retelling of The Talented Mr. Ripley for present day. The main reason to watch this is to see what crazy scenarios cooked up by Emerald Fennel. Then you have Barry Keoghan committing to the shocking scenes. I can safely say it's not something you'll ever seen before on screen. Then you have Rosamund Pike as the out of touch matriarch figure chewing the scenes. Last but not least, you also get to see the current golden boy of Hollywood, Jacob Elordi aka the new Clark Kent. This will end up a cult film for the Gen-Z.

I hoping it will at least make a quarter of $1 billion worldwide

It surely wont eclipse the earnings of first movie at this current landscape laugh.gif laugh.gif

Also PW is quite the frequent actor collab with James just like Bruce Campbell with Sam Raimi in Evil Dead series

Never knew that until today actually hahahaha

By accident I watched this at my parent's house, it's on those China-mali TV box. So not sure this is on Prime or Netflix yet. It's watchable and of course with any action movie nowadays, suspend your disbelief for the 3rd act. I like the mystery and keep guessing who is the real villain. Slick action scenes and a psycho hitman that you can't tell he is good or bad. Enjoyable la to me.

Give up HK cinema already, with all the censorship going on doubt they can do justice to nuance storytelling. On top of that, Felix Chong can be a wildly inconsistent film director.

Last year's Palme d'Or winner doesn't disappoint. On the surface it's a whodunit mystery but halfway it became a nail biting court drama that unravels the complexity of a broken marriage. It's not so much about solving the murder but through the trial you are presented with a questionable wife and inconclusive evidence of murder. So the battle is to control narrative to sway public opinion. Very intense trial action. A more grounded Gone Girl-esque movie with amazing performance from Sandra Huller. One of the best film from 2023.

So the granddaddy of all multiverse story. I like how they managed to compress the dense storyline in a pretty engaging narrative. Instead of play by play, they decide jumping back and forth multiple timelines ala Christopher Nolan style. At the heart of it all also a touching love story between Barry Allen and Iris that is core to the resolution of the crisis. Will be on the lookout for part 2. It's enjoyable to me.

This is a very fun movie. Harkening back to old school conman flicks, you have veteran actress Kim Hye Soon gave a very enjoyable foxy lady role that spinning deception and misdirection to redeem herself to her BFF Yum Jung Ah. Highly enjoyable!

no more bets.

what can i say. gritty, grounded, multi-faceted storyline from various angle, and some good old moral delivery punchline.

pretty good and gripping.
although there were some inconsistencies in the way they dish out punishment.
in some instances, villains are trigger happy to kill of some just to prove a point yet in other circumstances they showed great mercy.

but overall a very enjoyable flick.

Ini festive period boleh la catch up on some movies

The Beekeeper
If you are into Statham's earlier gigs as Mechanic/Transporter, this film has those vibes.
Good enough to while away the time, not much to shout about tho once you see the same action/moves repeated again and again just in different setting sweat.gif
And am pretty sure Jeremy Irons is in it just for a quick buck/easy paycheck laugh.gif

Bursting Point
I have seen my fair share of HK triad-police spy action thrillers, this has to be one of the WORST.
No head, no tail - the plot just makes no sense (for me sweat.gif ).
Then there's the choreography of the fight scenes, so horribly done rclxub.gif

Palm Springs (2020)
Yeap, it's been out for quite a while - but managed to catch it.
Well, in short - TENET. But a funny/lighter rom-com version of it laugh.gif
Very much like the video game, Deathloop laugh.gif
