I wanted to like this movie.

I really did...

So much so that I plunked down a pretty penny to watched this at Imax (Rm33... ).

And the result is...

The movie is meh...

The producer and director literally threw everything at it including the kitchen sink and the final product is just okay...

It looks more like a parade of dinosaurs and not much else...

I am.... disappointed.

Maybe my expectation was too high.

Black Phone - It's an OK watch. Good creepy villain to hold your interest. I don't care that Scott Derrickson is returning to horror after finding fame in MCU. It's Joe Hill that got me into giving this movie a try. Joe is channeling his father's writing tropes. You know the famous Stephen King story beats. Compelling children protagonists and effective horror tensions. 90% of the time, Ethan Hawke is wearing the Grabber mask and he did a pretty decent job of making you scared of him. The two child actors are great and their interactions has that Stephen King seal of approval characterization. The third act a bit weak but not a deal breaker

anyone like 2 see more mad dog ? the raid redemption . he is back .

based on trailer alone definitely can smell THE blockbuster of the year moniker and its for local wey

Beavis & Butthead Do The Universe - I felt this more for the 90s fans. Don't expect this is Rick and Morty type of satire. The premise is simple, the 2 idiots bungled their way to space and time travel to present day. So it's a fish out of water situation. The woke culture lecture had me dying with laughter. When Cornholio appears it's comedy gold. B&B Do America still the masterpiece and this is not as great but still very enjoyable for me.

Congratulations, Top Gun Maverick well deserved win over Dr Strange(2022) to become the first movie to cross 1 billion box office this year. I predict it will end up at 1.5 billion.👏

Is Avatar considered traditional or VFX based?

I want $2 billion and beat the Marvel hits in all time list. Hahahaha.

It's James Cameron, if the next trailer delivers some next level filmmaking then there's a basis for hype train or super positive reviews like Top Gun when it premiered. Need a disruption to superhero movies dominance.

I think Avatar was VFX based . Maverick has slim chance to reach $2 billion, 1.5 billion already is optimistic figure from me, hahaha.

The Matrix Resurrections (2021) - I like the old Matrix
The Tiger (2015) - Very very good movie. the tiger roars sound is very powerful with sub woofer. A Must Watch Movie..

Elvis - OK you don't watch a Baz Luhrmann's biopic for accuracy. It's his dazzling production design and his energetic filmmaking. On that front it delivers but as a movie on a whole it falters. It's a rather straightforward as in any biopic about a Singer or Actor for that matter. The underdog breakout into stardom and fall from grace. I can't for the life of me why they cast Tom Hanks with over the top prosthetic makeup. He is the weakest link to the movie with his weird accent and cartoonish characterization. Holy Shit!!! Austin Butler is the glue that held this otherwise so-so movie. He embodies Elvis Presley physically and spiritually. The moment he pops on the screen you are suck in to his voice and of course the iconic Elvis moves. He is the frontrunner for an Oscar nod at this point. A star is born!

The Black Phone (2022)

This movie is.... troubling...

Very troubling.

First ,you have the subject matter... Children abduction and murder...

Then you have, what children with a drunk and broken parent can go through.

I was... quite disturbed at certain parts of the movie.

The "lead actor" Mason Thames (who plays Finney) reminds me of Brad Renfro (may he rest in peace).

The main star of the movie for me is actually Madeleine McGraw (who plays Gwe, Finney's sister).

There were some rumblings of how great Ethan Hawke is in the movie... I think he was better in Sinister (2012)...

So, in summary, story is decent, acting good all around and direction was competent.

My main issue with the movie is

This is a dark movie.

It does not portray every single act of violence that occurs (thank goodness) and actually forces the audience to "imagine" the violence that happens to the captured children and that is one of the disturbing thing of the movie, for me...

So if you like movies which main objective is to appall you, this is THE movie!

My Two Sen

The Witch is back. The good, they have better budget so there's next level esper fight in the last act. You get to see various factions of witches. Shanghai branch and a witch hunter team. Those are exciting new elements. The bad, very convoluted narrative flashback and the first two acts very draggy. This is not exactly a sequel but a Part 1.5. During Part 1, you clearly see Dami had another girl with her during the cliffhanger. This movie explains the origin of that girl. This is strictly meant for fans of the first movie, otherwise you don't get who Dami is. She only appears briefly here. Not as good as the first one but still looking forward to Part 3. Just want to see more of Kim Dami.

Also watch it on cinema if can, Jack Sparrow subtitle is not accurate. When I linked the trailer only to find out GSC is screening locally.
