Thanks for the advices. If I were to go with 2K, how big of an SD Card do I need? Will 128GB be enough?
I see. That's good to hear as it supports the 2K statement. Would you advise getting the CPL Filter? Also, since I'm not going to enable Parking Mode, wondering if I configure the G-Sensor Parking, will the Super Capacitor be enough?
*
CPL will darken the video a bit. Also, you'll see rainbow effects on other cars with tinting.

They are not standalone rear dashcams. They need a front cam which can add on rear cams.

I see, so I should buy a new set of front and rear cam? Can't just add on to my existing ddpai mola n3?
*
Mola N3 is a "front only" dashcam. Hope that answers your question.

You can either buy a new dual (front and back) dashcam or get another front dashcam and use it as a rear dashcam.

Hello guys, do you all have problem with car warranty after installation. Especially those hard wired one? Planning to buy z40 for both my cars during 12.12? Any recommended shop for installation.
*
This depends on your luck. Some SC is ok and allows while some SC will report all the mods done to the car in their system.

If hardwire how long can the battery tahan before cut off? i thought of only using parking mode when parking out side when going to work, like may be 8am to 6pm for example.

Thought of using external powerbank but might forget to charge...

Also looking for reputable seller with installation in Kuching if any.
*
Will depends on your car battery. Newer batteries last longer than older batteries.

Hey guys, newbie to dashcam here.

Leaning towards capasitor type and prefer with parking mode. Shortlisted either Viofo a129 Pro duo or Ddpai z40. Would welcome any other recommendation. Budget 500 to 1k.

1) Parking mode require hardwire which will void warrant. How do you guys with new car work around this?
2) Long term effect of hardwire on car battery?
3) Park under hot sun quite regularly. Any concern on overheating.
4) Ddpai z40 ensure recording are saved in case of faulty micro sd card. Does a129 have this function?
*
1) Kamching with the service center. Some SC will close 1 eye and some will report any mods done.
2) As long the dashcam cutoff at the correct voltage during the battery protection then should not be a problem.
3) Never had any issues as everyday parked outside. But I'm using Thinkware.
4) Viofo suppose to launch a model with the same features but not launch

QUOTE(andyng38 @ Jan 17 2022, 03:51 PM)
The RTC battery is soldered to the board, and can be replaced by someone with some soldering experience. It is the round silver thing like a 5 sen coin on the bottom left of the casing. Refer to the photo in post #3670.

For clearer photos of the teardown, https://fccid.io/2AJFX-Z40/Internal-Photos/...-Photos-5371540

The photo in post #3670 has a red oval around the supercapacitor, NOT the RTC battery. I think Joey misunderstood you.
jycy98 was asking about the RTC battery, not the supercapacitor (which u put a red oval around) in post #3670.
*
Oops... Blur dou... doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

If it is the RTC then best to send it back to DDPai for a warranty claim...

Want to ask which thinkware model is better?
The Q800 Pro of the F790?
*
F790 is newer hardware specs that Q800 Pro. But 1080p vs 2K.

Waiting for the replacement model for the Q800 Pro.

So technically the Q800 is still better in the sense it can take clearer / sharper videos with 2K reso
*
I would suggest to wait 1st if going for the Q800 Pro or go straight for the F790 instead...

I did try once, it just keep running and draining the powerbank until it depleted completely, all within 8 hours of overnight parking. Not sure why dashcam cant goes into parking mode.
*
Not all dashcams have parking mode and those with parking mode will auto switch to parking mode when it detects that the engine is off and starts to draw power from the car battery or the power pack made for parking mode.

With a power bank, it is detecting the car is running and that's why it records non-stop after the engine is off.

Hi blurjoey - is your recommendation for dashcam is the same?

2 Cam - A129 Pro Duo
3 Cam - T130

Still undecided which to go for this time, but definitely either 2 cam or 3 cam.

Also for the 4K sensor of the A129 Pro Duo - is it better to record at 4K 30fps or 2K 60fps?

Thanks!
*
Actually, the A129 Pro is a native 4K sensor, so better to record in 4K. You can look at the newer A129 Plus which is 2K.

3CH I see is harder to sell in Malaysia.

I personally would record at 2K 60fps because:
1. i prefer higher framerates, video recorded is smoother
2. recording video at 4K will significantly heat up the dashcam, plus our weather during hot afternoon is damn hot, and ur car tint is also absorbing the heat from the sun. Hot dash cam + hot weather + hot tint = ..... not good?
*
I tried before the A129 Pro auto-shutdown due to overheating but it is while parking with the engine running on a very sunny day. Was parked there for almost an hour or so.

Even my Thinkware U1000 also overheated 15 minutes later laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

But both don't overheat while driving.

Anyway, 1080p, 2K, or 4K, or 30/60fps will come down to individual preference.

With 30fps or 60fps, both will not perform that well at night while fast-moving.

Same here bro.
Been using xiaoyi dashcam for about 6 years now.
If i park at outside during noon, i would cover the dashcam using my old cap to protect from heat & prying eyes also.
So far so good.

Now i don’t depend on the app anymore. I just disabled the Wifi externally & i bought the sdcard reader for iphone.

Anything just cabut the sdcard and read from phone much more faster.

But i also plan to buy the dashcam that comes with both front & rear cams.
Was wondering which brand that has small & discreet cam that can fit at the back of honda city hybrid ya? I put a sunshade behind also. Planning to squeeze thru it and put at near the 3rd rear light brake there.

blurjoey can recommend which best dashcam model for above situation ya?

DDPai Z40

Hi sifu blurjoey. Installed the Viofo A129 Pro Duo around 2 weeks ago. Just wanted to ask if the quality of the video for A129 is normal for dark / night recording. Using H265, Maximum Bitrate, WDR off, no CPL. Quite a bit of noise visible in the video.

Tried installing CPL to improve glare, but there seems to be a visible rainbow halo on the top left corner of each video - I installed window tint, and I read that this may be the case why it's happening. Removed the CPL and the rainbow halo effect is gone.
*
Did you change the brightness for the front cam? What is the firmware version?

From my review with medium bitrate and WDR on.

Yes CPL is like that. Same as wearing polarized sunglasses.
