Does Lenovo plan to release AMD version of processor chip in this laptop?
*
I don't think so - Ryzen mobile APUs aren't so suitable for gaming laptops for now due to lower IPC and no 6 core option (also no undervolting)

Hello everyone,
Y540 user here. I did my purchase from SG lenovo website and received the laptop a week ago.

Laptop configuration:

Intel® Core™ i5-9300H
GTX1660Ti 6GB GDDR6 192bits with Samsung VRAM
Full HD IPS 144 Hz 300 nits (BOE NV156FHM-N4G)
8GB DDR4 2666MHz SODIMM  (Micron 8ATF1G64HZ-2G6E1 running at 19-19-19-43-2 (tCAS-tRC-tRP-tRAS-tCR))
Audio Realtek ALC257
Intel  256GB Solid State Drive, M.2 2280, PCIe-NVMe (Intel 760P SSDPEKKW256G8L)
Intel® Wireless-AC 9560
3 Cell Li-Polymer Internal Battery, 57Wh (SMP L17M3PG2)
I would say the laptop is a well thought out design, a carefully engineered product comes with sturdy build. I like the idea of major ports/ connectors placement at the rear. Definitely love the clean and professional look.

Haven't really got the time to game on it. Only did some tests and system stability check mainly with throttle stop and prime 95. Starting with -125mV for both the core and cache. Average 4.0G 4 cores up to 85°C.

Pros:

Good quality and build. Thin bezel and premium look.
Good overall performance and value for money.

Cons:

Horrible touch pad button clicking sound. Inherited from last generation i supposed :/
power brick literally look and weight like a clay brick but it serve the job well.
Only 1 NVMe slot available.

Nice man but was interested with the 9750H CPU because I oftenly use video editing. But 9300H also ok because right now I use Y720 with quad core 7700HQ which is still enough for me.

I loved the design for Y540/Y740. Wish I got these models instead of the bulkier Y720. Everywhere I go people noticed it "walaweh gaming laptop mehhh" and I hated that sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Ya, just wait for them to update the model spec and pricing.

At the same time, I also found that Legion Y740 (both 15" & 17") no longer available for purchase (website). Not sure whether they are stop receive order temporarily, or want to update new spec for it (In some country, Lenovo already update spec to 9th generation CPU for Y740).

It's expensive for its specs (in Malaysia) but Y740 is also recommended by many laptop enthusiasts out there

Yeah... 7k for that doesn't really justify for what it's given.

But I like the design haha. By far the best looking laptop I've seen. Would get the 540 if it has RGB lighting, but sadly it doesn't.

In comparison with Y540, I do think Y540 is the best for the buck + the design is cleaner and the keyboard is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more make sense. You'll lose Thunderbolt 3 btw but I do think it's worth it.

Y740 starts around RM 7400 for the 8750h and 2060 while Y540 at RM 5,500 for 9750h and 2060, that's RM 2400 cheaper!

Note that Y740 is slightly more portable, has aluminium material, has GSYNC+MUX and slightly better thermals (despite thinner). Only thing I don't like is the keyboard layout

Just Received my Y540. Still haven't power up it yet but the power brick is really ridiculous BIG!!! Gonna look for smaller power charger, is inconvenient to bring this out.

Any recommended seller or compatible Lenovo charger?

Big 230w charger better than small 180w charger imo...no need worry battery drain due to excess power draw

There is no other alternative unless Lenovo has introduced a smaller 20V charger

Well before you buy it you should watch some Y540 videos in youtube. They will show the bulky charger everytime when they take out the laptop from the box. If at that time you realize is huge or big for you and it is not convenient to take out for meeting or work, you should go for other laptop. But since you bought it, so what can you do is search for alternative solution as you mentioned it. If there's no alternative solution, then just accept the fact. Can't change anything already unless you sell it and look for new one which has smaller charger and suitable for you to take out for meeting or work. Cheers

Btw enjoy your new machine! biggrin.gif
