VIETNAM is listed among nine countries where the US dollar is strongest this year, according to a report from Smart Travel.
According to the 2019 Backpacker Index of Smart Travel, a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are named as the top two most affordable cities to travel to this year while Hoi An also makes the top ten.
“For less than $20 per day, travellers to Vietnam can pay for budget accommodation [hostels], meals, some entertainment and public transportation. Mid-range accommodation also tends to be affordable,” Smart Travel says.
While the exchange rate is predicted to increase slightly in Vietnam this year, the Big Mac Index suggests the dollar will remain very strong in Vietnam this year.
According to Smart Travel, choosing a destination can be a difficult decision when you’re looking to maximise your travel budget. By choosing a destination with a favourable exchange rate and strong US dollar, you can make the most of every penny spent this year.
Besides Vietnam, Smart Travel also suggests travellers looking to stretch the dollar this year should consider Latin America and parts of Africa and Asia. Projected prices for Latin America and Africa are expected to decrease by two per cent for air travel and about 1.4 per cent for hotel this year, according to the Global Travel Forecast.
“Whether you’re on a tight budget or looking for luxury without the high price tag, these undervalued currencies and decreasing foreign exchange rates should be on your radar,” Smart Travel says. VIET NAM NEWS/ANN
vietnam wages is very bad. my engineer friend who worked there says with 5 years experience he's only getting around 2k Ringgit after conversion. And he's with MNC. He plan to move to HCM first and then hop to SG if possible.
Most of the normal workers earn USD 150-250 per month , especially if you are doing unskilled job like bank clerk / helpdesk . So if you imagine they move to Malaysia and even if they earning 3k-4k MYR per month is already a huge jump in finances.

Thats why if u are pretty the attraction to sell body is quite high. Imagine if 1 piap is USD50 , they sell body 4-5 times a month already earn 1 month wages.
and that is FL , not attached to pimps

Not true, if only RM2k after conversion y go to Vietnam in the 1st place? Salary for locals are really low, that's right. But for expat, it's not bad
I cant say much of other parts but I can say HCM is NOT cheap......
Cools things to buy are motorbike helmet but dont think u can use it in Malaysia.
Also they do accept MYR.
Depends. If you are staying a bit outskirt, it's cheap. Shopping is more expensive. Accommodation is more expensive. Food is cheap. Transportation is cheap. If you talk about District 1, it's all expensive. It's like KLCC/Bukit Bintang, they know foreigner visit these place. Sure cut throat. Things are 1/3 or 1/2 of the price of things in D1

Yes accommodation is expensive Shopping is expensive Err contrary I find transport is also expensive. Not sure if u take the grab bike though Food also expensive to me. One pho around rm8 to rm14 depending where u eat..but i was told, it's really cheapnif you dare to eat their local food. I couldn't stomach it.
Yes most of the time I was in district 1.
Been there like 10 times for the past 1-2 years
Ciplak good quality deuter bag rm 18 or 100000 dong.
But some of their tour is freaking cheap. I think 20 dollar for one day trip including lunch to Mekong delta.

yeah, i eat local food. 20k per meal, that's like RM3.50.
Transport on GrabBike. If you are on Taxi, of course it's a different story....

Tumpang tanya ... If holiday kat HCMC, is there an atmospheric old quarter area to look out for, accomodation-wise ? Like when I go to Phuket, I like to stay in Phuket Old Town in the oldie worldie Memory On-on hotel.

Usually tourist stays at District 1. Cos most locals there can speak English. Once you go out....it's sign language. Hahaha

district 3 along vo thi sau has this kinda vibe i reckon. also along cmtt (Cách Mạng Tháng Tám).
heard cheong cost is more expensive than Malaysia, is it >?
depends. if you're funny and the girl likes you then cheaper. if lucky free.
but with the same price in malaysia you can get a hngghh one already compared to the vietmois in malaysia because the girls there are generally above average.

actually, buying stuff here is more expensive than Malaysia. Like clothing, electronics etc. Due to higher tax in Vietnam. street food, is cheaper than malaysia.
compared to the last 5 years it's more expensive now
If compare to last 5 year ... my take is every country is more expensive. Hack 2 year already expensive. The same hotel I stay increase their price from rm165 to rm205.
Comparison should be country to country with similar economic stand point.
Go there jalan jalan eat and drink ok kua. Ayam not shopaholic so just like to walk, see shit and eat and drink when thirsty or hungry or their speciality cuisines. Cheong I dunno.

to me this is kinda like 100-150% in HCMC... man everything is getting expensive there. Their bowl of Pho used to cost 20k-30k. Now can see 60k and more and portion so small
At least their spas still affordable

Don't know u guys notice this or not ... Vietnamese can quarrel law kaw fark smelly then tumorow like nothing happen friend friend buddy buddy back. Men and ladies alike.
Or just that the one that come across is like that.
HCMC is good only for 1 time visit.....because it introduce you to the horror of war.....other then that there is nothing to see ..boring place
You're referring to the typical tours to Cu Chi tunnels? That's not really HCMC...
For HCMC, there are the typical sightseeing spots.. then the rarer ones further out.. like the pink cathedral, or their cultural village.. then only very far places like Mekong river tour and cu chi tunnels tour...
You can also draw a parallel to KL.. most people find it boring after a day too...

overall the food i eat road side or kopitiam also never kena food poisoning before yet crab noodle memang sedap, one of my favorite too
Vietnam kopitiam quite ok, much safer to eat than cambodia and way way better than Philippines. PH is the only country I’d never dare to eat their local cheap food. Lol

It’s only cheap if you really eat like a local. I can’t eat like a local because I find a lot of their local food is not as nice as what you would think as a tourist. It gets boring and flavorless after a few years.
A bowl of pho also 30-40k la.. that is not dirt cheap... you went in 1980s ka
QUOTE(takadanicklagi @ Jan 11 2020, 02:52 PM)

My wife never buy also.. my sister didn't.. my mother didn't.. hmm
for a comfortable trip how much min budget would you recommend per person?
Halong Bay
i actually recommend lan ha bay instead of ha long bay.
In halong bay you will have your boat moored next to 7-8 other cruise ships, at night it will be damn noisy if you are next to a party cruise (those with lots of European / Aussie youngsters) The only thing cool in Ha Long bay imo is the cave where King Kong was filmed. You take a boat through a small tunnel into a huge lake. That's the only highlight , I spent the afternoon kayaking there, swimming and taking pictures.
cant help you with budget as I went a few years ago, but don't get the cheapest, that's all i can say, you do get what u paid for

One thing bout Viet ... sun to them is cancer ... lol
My relatives in VN work morning to night in the hot sun.... men and women alike.. you must be judging an entire nation by a select population of young women.. a demographic not even related to any nationality
