I didn't tune all these, I did the setting in bios which the same setting tune the Core voltage offset & Cache voltage offset to -0.100mv, coz for my daily usage I didn't face any performance issue nor heat issue so I didn't tune it further.
but for those you are not aware if you in office mode you will face power limit throttling so if you play game better switch to game mode, for command center you can leave it at "Equilibrium mode" even you play game.

Yup, getting to know more about this little beast as I have more time to spend with it today.

I also chatted with illegear tech support and learnt on few more things.

1) The turbo boost power max is 70w (PL1) and 90W (PL2), and it was tuned by manufacturer.
2) Not recommended to use 3rd party software to undervolt (e.g. Intel XTU), use bios setting instead.
3) The fan button apparently is to switch between game and office mode, game mode will set the 70w/90w tdp limit, office mode will set to 35w/35w tdp limit, disable turbo clock.
4) Office mode also seems to force intel built in GPU even in gaming.

Overall a quick review for me:
1) Size - it is huge ! However, I believe it is one of the smallest in terms of footprint for a 17 inch gaming laptop in the market.
2) Cooling - Very good cooling performance indeed, with some undervolt (I able to get it stable at -155mW it seems, maybe still can go lower), sustainable 3.9Ghz full load, about 85C average. Still need to test more on the GPU thermal performance.
3) Screen - It's gorgeous ! Love the slim bezel.
4) Speaker - Volume is better than I have anticipated
5) Mechanical keyboard is a tad bit noisy, still need to get used to it.

Overall quite satisfied with my selenite. biggrin.gif

Next up:
1) Find out if possible to lower down the turbo multiplier to reduce fan noise.
2) Try GPU undervolt
3) Laptop cooler in on the way, will see if it helps to further reduce the temp.

It's day and night difference with and without Sound Blaster Cinema 5.

Sorry for hijack this thread, but is sound blaster also work for illegear S5 as well?

Hi ferros,

S5 has soundblaster built in as well but the installation method is completely different. You may email us at support@illegear.com with your serial number.

Nice quick review man, I myself got the selenite just recently after sold my Z5 around a week ago and I'm quite satisfied with my purchased.
My initial impression was mostly positive, I'm very surprise that this 17 inch laptop is noticeable lighter then my tanky Z5. My Z5 serve me well but after carrying it around 2 years to my workplace, I think its time to move on to a lighter laptop. Plus with a bigger screen and a better spec its a great upgrade to me. The only thing I'm disappointed at first is the speaker and keyboard. So far after doing some tuning, the speaker sound alright now but for the keyboard, I still cant get used to it. Its feel....weird typing on it sweat.gif

Does your Sound Blaster work? the volume is very low if sound blaster doesn't work. you can try to change this to loud as shown in the ss below.

Check your windows update for sound blaster driver update if it doesn't work.

Mine work properly but even after some fiddling on the setting its still not that loud or clear as other brand. I used to own a few MSI, Asus and Lenovo laptop and they sounded better without even need to tune the setting. As for selenite, I think its alright enough to watch youtube or movie by yourself. Luckily I use my earphone most of the time so it doesn't bother me much.

Yes it's true but I find it weird for the driver to work properly, a window update is required. Shouldn't the update all include inside the driver during installation? A bit of a hassle if you ask me to update the window sweat.gif
Anyway, want to contribute something in this thread. Here's some photo before and after my laptop upgrade. Before this I was using Z5

Hi Volt,

We try to use the latest Windows update at our assembly line but sometimes after we finished assembly and QC there is another windows update again. We seek for your understanding in regards to this matter.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

More undervolt:
By no means the machine is running hot, but I am a fan of high efficiency and striving to run the machine as cool as possible. Additionally, also helps to prolong the component lifetime. After some researching, fiddling around, able to achieve a stable undervolt of -185mV via bios. Running prime95 after 40mins, temp is at 90C but probably due to very high power limit set by BIOS straight out from factory (85W !), constant 3.9Ghz boost clock. For moderate demand game like POE, temp is at about 60C with fan barely audible.

GPU tuning
Undervolt RTX2060 to about 700mV @ 1400Mhz and stable, I suppose I can bump up the core higher but my intention is not to achieve best performance but to lower thermal. Game like POE easily break 144fps with high setting, but if I cap the frame to 60fps thermal is only 60C.

Overall, internal fan is kept at low speed and is barely audible biggrin.gif Seems like selenite's 5 heatpipes, dual fans with 4 vent holes + undervolt really do a decent job here. Had a desktop before with blower style GPU, never thought a laptop can be more quiet than a desktop gaming machine. tongue.gif

Cinebench R15 score close to 1300.
Superposition extreme score @ 3550

Built-in Speaker
If I were to pick the weakest link of Illegear Selenite, it would be the speaker. My volume is alright (sound blaster working fine) but it sounds a bit hollow. My guess is the midrange and bass is a bit lacking. Have not played too much with the setting but it is definitely not a decent one. Not a deal breaker though. Anyway, plan to buy a decent bluetooth ANC headphone, I guess I won't spend too much time fiddling with this.

Have not really done any intense FPS gaming for long hour to verify the temp and stability, don't really have much time for gaming nowadays unfortunately.

60degrees celcius at high settings is indeed remarkable. I own an Onyx and have a goal of reducing heat and increasing efficiency as well instead of going for max quality but noisy fan and annoying temperature build up.

I manage to get it stable only to max -140mV CPU. Still yet to explore MSI Afterburner setup to tame the 2060 inside. So far I'm getting 70-73 degrees after limiting max clock to 1700Mhz. Your 60degrees is definitely a goal for me to have as one of my Afterburner presets for casual gaming.

Would like to ask. I'm choosing between Onyx & Selenite. I heard reviews mentioned that Onyx has very loud fan noise when you're gaming & Selenite has much better fan noise tolerance.

For those who is using Selenite currently, is the noise fan too noisy or still bearable?

The audible fan noise for the Onyx has been significantly reduced after applying the latest BIOS and EC update smile.gif

However, the Selenite indeed has a quieter fan noise in comparison to the Onyx because the former has larger-sized vents for the ventilation, hope this clarifies~

I play Dota 2 and League of legend at max setting so far I didn't notice any fan noise, at least the fan noise is low enough not to take my attention away from the game.

Never try any triple A game yet so no comment for those high demanding game.

I choose Selenite because of

1. bigger screen useful when i work with multiple documents or photo editing software (another solution is plug in external monitor)
2. Windows Hello facial recognition login. (lazy to type password tongue.gif plus login to windows faster)
3. Better cooling performance, for gaming laptop better cooling mean better performance because of less throttling.
4. Soft touch palm rest area is better than Aluminium body of Onyx which is finger print magnet.

but Selenite is less portability than Onyx because it has bigger size.

It does clarify indeed. Thanks smile.gif
All I need to decide is whether to take the larger size or smaller one. Gosh, choosing between these two laptops has never been so hard.

Guess I'm going to be one of the first to try out Metro Exodus with either of these two laptops. I think I'm leaning towards Selenite due to the better cooling performance since I do game some triple A games with crazy graphics & specs. Think I should undervolt too.
