Would like to ask. I'm choosing between Onyx & Selenite. I heard reviews mentioned that Onyx has very loud fan noise when you're gaming & Selenite has much better fan noise tolerance.

For those who is using Selenite currently, is the noise fan too noisy or still bearable?

The audible fan noise for the Onyx has been significantly reduced after applying the latest BIOS and EC update smile.gif

However, the Selenite indeed has a quieter fan noise in comparison to the Onyx because the former has larger-sized vents for the ventilation, hope this clarifies~

It does clarify indeed. Thanks smile.gif
All I need to decide is whether to take the larger size or smaller one. Gosh, choosing between these two laptops has never been so hard.

I play Dota 2 and League of legend at max setting so far I didn't notice any fan noise, at least the fan noise is low enough not to take my attention away from the game.

Never try any triple A game yet so no comment for those high demanding game.
I choose Selenite because of

1. bigger screen useful when i work with multiple documents or photo editing software (another solution is plug in external monitor)
2. Windows Hello facial recognition login. (lazy to type password  tongue.gif  plus login to windows faster)
3. Better cooling performance, for gaming laptop better cooling mean better performance because of less throttling.
4. Soft touch palm rest area is better than Aluminium body of Onyx which is finger print magnet.
but Selenite is less portability than Onyx because it has bigger size.

Guess I'm going to be one of the first to try out Metro Exodus with either of these two laptops. I think I'm leaning towards Selenite due to the better cooling performance since I do game some triple A games with crazy graphics & specs. Think I should undervolt too.

So I have officially bought Selenite for my own. This laptop is a beast. I can play triple A games with no issues.

Tested out with Metro Exodus. Everything maxed out with no ray tracing and it sustains above 60 fps (most of the time). Undervolted both GPU & CPU and my temperature for both is always below 70 degrees Celsius. Overall very impressed with this laptop indeed. I can officially sell my PC now.

Are you using throttlestop? I found that without downclocking (just merely undervolt), the temperature can rise and fall very fast. With i7 8750H turbo constantly at 3.9Ghz, temperature can easily overshoot 75C and come back after the fan spooling up. So I never able to achieve a stable temperature, it is more like a roller coaster.
*
That's odd. During gameplay my temperature is around 60-65C at most. Yes I am using throttlestop. I set the offset voltage to around -100.6mV and it's quite stable for me so far.

What game you played?  Some game do not stress the cpu.

Metro Exodus with the highest settings excluding DLSS. Temperature always remain below 70C. No big intervals either.

My selenite that I used less than 2 years I had sent it for warranty 3 times. 2 times it's the display panel keeps falling out & land on the keyboard. And now the latest one is motherboard problem which I have to wait for 1 to 2 months now.

I used to recommend other people illegear brand previously but I just can't do it anymore. 3 warranties in less than 2 years is just not reasonable. Are there other people that face this amount of warranty or it's just me with a lemon product? sad.gif

I just bought selenite g from JB branch and i already went there like 4 times regarding the warranty issue and i just got my laptop not more than 7 days haha (yet to resolve), within 2years 3 times warranty still fine la ?

Yikes, 4 times in less than 7 days? I cannot imagine your frustration. But god bless Illegear support is much better than other brands (can nego somehow).

Other brand such as Acer, Asus, etc. do not care too much on their customers after you have purchased their unit (unless the store provides 7 days 1 to 1 exchange). All you can do is just send in for warranty & wait. :/

Playing intensive game, sounds like an amazing job tongue.gif
I use my laptop for intensive gaming too. For work just use work laptop. Haha
