should be on your start menu but i do agree, the sound on the selenite isnt great. I felt my older Z5 have a lil bit better sound then this.
I think the software is the problem because even on earphone im still disappointed.

Yup, getting to know more about this little beast as I have more time to spend with it today.

I also chatted with illegear tech support and learnt on few more things.

1) The turbo boost power max is 70w (PL1) and 90W (PL2), and it was tuned by manufacturer.
2) Not recommended to use 3rd party software to undervolt (e.g. Intel XTU), use bios setting instead.
3) The fan button apparently is to switch between game and office mode, game mode will set the 70w/90w tdp limit, office mode will set to 35w/35w tdp limit, disable turbo clock.
4) Office mode also seems to force intel built in GPU even in gaming.
Overall a quick review for me:
1) Size - it is huge ! However, I believe it is one of the smallest in terms of footprint for a 17 inch gaming laptop in the market.
2) Cooling - Very good cooling performance indeed, with some undervolt (I able to get it stable at -155mW it seems, maybe still can go lower), sustainable 3.9Ghz full load, about 85C average. Still need to test more on the GPU thermal performance.
3) Screen - It's gorgeous ! Love the slim bezel.
4) Speaker - Volume is better than I have anticipated
5) Mechanical keyboard is a tad bit noisy, still need to get used to it.

Overall quite satisfied with my selenite.  biggrin.gif

Next up:
1) Find out if possible to lower down the turbo multiplier to reduce fan noise.
2) Try GPU undervolt
3)  Laptop cooler in on the way, will see if it helps to further reduce the temp.

Nice quick review man, I myself got the selenite just recently after sold my Z5 around a week ago and I'm quite satisfied with my purchased.
My initial impression was mostly positive, I'm very surprise that this 17 inch laptop is noticeable lighter then my tanky Z5. My Z5 serve me well but after carrying it around 2 years to my workplace, I think its time to move on to a lighter laptop. Plus with a bigger screen and a better spec its a great upgrade to me. The only thing I'm disappointed at first is the speaker and keyboard. So far after doing some tuning, the speaker sound alright now but for the keyboard, I still cant get used to it. Its feel....weird typing on it sweat.gif

Mine work properly but even after some fiddling on the setting its still not that loud or clear as other brand. I used to own a few MSI, Asus and Lenovo laptop and they sounded better without even need to tune the setting. As for selenite, I think its alright enough to watch youtube or movie by yourself. Luckily I use my earphone most of the time so it doesn't bother me much.

Yes it's true but I find it weird for the driver to work properly, a window update is required. Shouldn't the update all include inside the driver during installation? A bit of a hassle if you ask me to update the window sweat.gif
Anyway, want to contribute something in this thread. Here's some photo before and after my laptop upgrade. Before this I was using Z5

user posted image
volt mentioned less than 90% volume work but I havent test that.

Sry what I really mean to say is that anywhere near the max volume the crackling sound will occurred. In my case it usually happen during opening a YouTube video or switching/opening a music. It doesnt happen often but you do notice it.

Anyway I tried to update realtek audio driver to see if there any improvement but after update my creative soundblaster app couldn't detect my driver, so make sure you dont update it haha sweat.gif

Update: The crackling sound now happen at any volume, really noticable when opening youtube video or playing music laugh.gif

I try using my previous solution that I used to solve my dell inspiron 7559 pop sound problem by disabling power management for the audio and so far, it help minimizing the crackling or pop sound. It help making it less noticeable then before an Im happy with the outcome so far.

Wondering how you disable the power management for audio? Don't seem to have this one in the power plan.

Was googling this issue and found the following. It seems like it is not selenite problem, but some other users have experienced same thing.

https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/audio-...ows-107-solved/

The original news shared 3 solutions: 1) minimum processor state to 100% (not desirable for heat and battery life) 2) Disable ATI HDMI (not applicable to us) 3) DPC latency (interesting one)

However, what caught my eye is one of the user in the comment section actually solved his popping issue with "fast boot disable".
SOLUTION: Disable Fast Boot
STEPS: Control Panel - Power Options - (Left) Choose What The Power Buttons Do - Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable - Now Uncheck or Deselect 'Turn On Fast Startup' - Click Save Changes and then fully Shut Down Computer (not restart) - Power Computer Back On - PROBLEM SOLVED.

Will try it after work and report here.

you have to disable it through regedit > hkey_current_user > Software > Realtek > Audio > RtknguAudUService > enable > 0

I noticed you cant adjust the bass in window setting anymore. You can only adjust the bass through the creative sound blaster software.

Might be because of window update. I once experienced a long black screen before after restarting a window update few months ago. I thought I had broken the laptop but after force restart the pc and wait patiently for the screen to come out, the laptop eventually turn on properly.

Yea that's roughly the same battery time I'm getting right now. Maybe just a little longer than 1.5 hours. Doing a Windows battery report shows that my current full charge capacity is only 28,500 mWh when the design capacity is at 46,740 mWh. Quite a steep drop for a 5 month old laptop.

that was what window 10 estimated in the battery option. In actual use, it alot shorter then that. cry.gif

Hey Guys.

I need some help here. I recently reformat my windows because some updates mess up my software and I cant use certain setting for my work. I have reinstall all the laptop's drivers successfully except for the sound driver. I installed the sound driver following this step:

realtek audio > soundblaster app > creative audio effect component > spkeq_tf_pcapp

I did a window update after that but the sound still broken and soundbluster app is offline.

I tried reinstall and reformat few times but I still cant manage to make it work again. Please help if you guys have a solution, thanks

I found that certain window updates would mess up the laptop and would cause problem such (as in my case):

- Can not direct print image or document other then in Jpeg format (this happen before window build 1809)
- Camera and infrared keep running even after I login
- Battery only hold up for 1.5 hours in all power mode
- Cant access features in certain drivers (in my case my fuji xerox and evolis printer option)
- Screen color calibration would disappeared after an update

I tried to reinstall the driver but the problem still persisted so I decided to do a clean window format and all those problem isnt there anymore accept for the calibration which I dont have the necessary tools to do it.

Sent. How about the BIOS undervolt? is there a reason mine is only maxed out at -50mV? can i go lower?
*
The newest bios only let you undervolt to -50mV. If you want to go lower, you have to use the older version or undervolt using software like Throttlestop.

If the soundblaster work fine out of the box, you are good to go.

The only reason I have problem with it, is because I had to reinstalling it again which can be tricky if you dont know how to do it.
