Seems like so many people here so interested in ah lian casing...

Me??Nope...I still interested in my I - Cute though...Not thinkin of changing...For me,I would rather use the money to upgrade hardwares inside my system than toping - up to change casing...

Yess...I agree with u bro Darnell...But the price of Ah Lian & Mr CM here is more expensive than I - Cute...Instead of spend money buyin a new casing,would reccomanded for us to upgrade the CPU & chasis fan to a better one...I think it would help more than Ah Lian or CM casing would do in temperature control..Correct me if Im wrong with this info...Thanx..

Hmm, i would slightly disagree with you guys there. You upgrade your hardware frequently but not the case, a good case will last you a very long time, like my good old enlight had served me around 7-8 years, if not because of the airflow limitations, i might not consider changing.

While for ah lians, the airflow should be much better than the CM C5. The C5 front intake is almost useless. A pathetic 80mm fan if i've not mistaken. If you plant o impove the airflow, maybe you'll get high speed fan for the intake and exhaust as well. But that you will have to sacrifice the silence of the PC.

For me, maybe spending around  1k for the casing is a little too much, but i do always feel a couple of hundred, say 3-400 is still reasonable considering the better i-cutes are priced more than 100 also nowadays, same as the other generic ones.

I agree with u , bro n305er...But compare I - Cute & the normal chaplang chasis , I would say I - Cute is better coz it provides more space for us to add chasis fan on it...This may help in air flow of our whole computer system...Very few chaplang chasis that would have 12cm chasis fan space compare to I - Cute...Conclusion is ` You`ll get what you pay for when buying the more expensive casings `...Cheers..

It's quite true that you get what you pay for. Cooler Masters are better than those Cap Ayam and Itik. The higher end ones are just as good as some Ah Lians and Silverstones. Frankly, even the C5 is already quite a good casing.

Nowadays many i-cutes do come with proper work space and also nice fan compartments for additional case fans, but i would have to say those stock i-cute fans would do nto much help for airflow, better consider some more seriuos fans if you want some real good ventilation. However, I-cutes are considered much better than those cheapo RM80 for casing+PSU like the one i'm using for my 2nd rig. Just that sometimes when budget is taken into concern, many will still go for the cheapest ones. Nowadays, many brand like E-mag, Now, E-view has casings which look very proper, but the material just doesn't feel solid. Most of them come with dual 80/90mm fan slots behind and either single or dual 80mm intake.

But anyhow, the casing is just not really that important, a better PSU will need to be prioritized before considering for a better casing. For me, it's ok to stick to a cheap casing but it's never ok to stick with a cheap PSU. I just dun trust them.

Hmm, seems like they are quite interesting. I know they have Arctic cooling CPU fans also. The guy is ok, that day also i went kacau, he even open up the plastic show me, open side panel and tell me many Penang ppl dunno about Ah Lian lar, and say many people come his shop he tell them ah lian good and those ppl only say coolermaster good...

Anyway, As for XFX and BFG, I think GZ carries them. Though I doubt many people in Penang buys those things.

Most of the time when I'm helping some aunties or uncles to buy PC or just parts, they'll tell me, "Aiyah, can use can liao lah. Don't need expensive one la. Even computers few years ago can play game what."

Then I'll give them a statistics breakdown. When they were using those cheap parts, they actually have breakdowns of about 1 parts almost every 2 or 3 months. While my [expensive system] is still lasting me for over 4 years and still able to play the latest games, burn almost any DVDs.

Just 2 years ago, I recommended one of my uncle to actually get a good system from a good shop. The only problems he have so far are software problems.

Well, I just erm... sort of upgraded and downgraded my system. Bought the Athlon X2 3800+ CPU from @meno. Installed it into a Tforce 690G mobo and added 1GB (Initially wanted 2GB but Mix Tech don't have stock ).

So now I've upgraded my CPU and Motherboard but considered downgraded my RAM and display already. 

I think I've made a wrong choice in selecting this motherboard though.

Eh, it's not very bad. In fact, it's very good.
My regret isn't about the quality or performance. It's just that I just found out that if I installed a new graphics card into it, then the motherboard isn't very special anymore.

Nvidia's boards all have their prefetching technology since the nforce2 days. It has been forgotten by many but that simple technology did make a difference in terms of performance. The new Barcelona Cores from AMD has similar prefetching technology built in though.

IMHO speaking i prefer mobo that comes with onboard, so u got spare onboard display in case GC is down.. The Biostar TA690G oso have good OC feature, mainly suits lite gamers or multimedia user... If really into gaming maybe u should get the 570U or 570SLi or 590SLi...

lol... Get budget AMD X2 dual core 65W would be better & Biostar TForce TA690G, 2GB ram is good enuf for XP or Vista... 3D rendering all is depend GC... check ur software system requirements... AFAIK ARCGIS system requirement quite low

XP Pro is kenot fully support 4GB lar , even Vista not very stable... U need invest more money if going for Quadro...

Darnell, if you can't wait i would say go for the Pentium E series and overclock the hell out of it or get a middle end C2D. I dun think the BE will be available so easily in Malaysia, but i'm also very tempted by it actually, lower power consumption, good overclocking capabilities, overall a very nice proc. 2Gb ddr2, could be good enough for your needs, but if you have extra, can consider dumping for another 2GB as you're relying on heavy graphic and CAD rendering right? Who would complain having too much ram on a rig?

I would say, get a E2160, a Biostar 965P, and 2gb of Ram. You should have a very decent system for a good price there, add in your Quadro... (good enough for me)



I'm not planning for 4GB myself, at least for now. 2GB will be good enough. But for Darnell then it depends on how heavy his rendering jobs are. He should be doing a lot of CAD.

The 2600XT is a good card for HD rendering, takes the load away from the proc.

Get at least E4300 + Biostar P965 or 965PT + A-Data 1GB DDR2 800 x2... grab it now later is the same... coz Intel price drop as predict ram prices up makes not much difference, AFAIK low end proc prices drop not much...

IMHO Compare with X2 4200+ & E2160 price & performance, the x2 4200+ still cheaper & yet better performance... X2 still best for budget dualies..

Darnell already has a Quadro, so he doesn't need to spend money on it anymore. I'm not sure what OS is he running though.

I still think the E21 series will out perform the Brisbanes, but again, it the differences are only visible on benchmarks, if in real life, i doubt you gonna get that much differences in feeling as the differences in benchmarks show.

But the most KVR 667 sticks will do 800 easily if those Darnell get are Hynix FP-Y5s.

FP-Y5 are not as good ad FP-S5. S5 is legend...
But the Y5 should be able to do 900 at least on average, it's one of the better batches from Hynix.

Even the D9DPN microns i have in hand can hit 900mhz easily(On 1.9v, never pushed them to 2.3v ), and as claimed by Kucingfight can reach DDR1000...   Too bad i dun have a rig to test them out again, gotta arrange with Lohwenli to OC it kaw kaw again...
