Sharing room with travel partner, thats why double room biggrin.gif

Maybe I should have put it as 150/day x8 nights instead lol..

RM 300 per night? Challenging, maybe Airbnb or apartment.

Is IBIS nice? Can share some photos? Im choosing between IBIS or Holiday Inn, but IBIS is more attractive due to price and breakfast included. Holiday inn is however much bigger..
*
Ibis is OK, I stayed before in SG and most recently in Vienna, Austria (end of last month).

Comfortable and I enjoyed my stays, pricing is affordable. Part of AccorHotels group, so it is not bad.

On another hand, I stayed before in Holiday Inn during one of my trips in Beijing, I didn't really enjoy it. Can't say much for Tokyo one though.

actually the one you can save is eating. 100 yen per day enough.
*
Eating is very subjective la.. I won't be so harsh on myself to eat only 100 yen per day which is less than RM 4?! Seriously? That's cheaper than eating in Malaysia. I think you probably meant 1000 yen which I think it's still little. Others may be can save on eating but not me because I believe going to a different country is to experience different culture which includes tasting local food.

yes 1000 Yen.
save in eating better than saving in transport I think. 150 rm transport for 8 days impossible unless stay at hotel most days.
my friend said that ramen in ich*ran dotonburi Japan not as nice as here locally.
*
Transportation, maybe managed by passes or walking around? Who says stay in hotel most of the time?

That's your friend's taste. Honestly, food taste varies according to people. I didn't say Japanese food is great, I'm not a super big fan of Japanese food in fact but there must be good food out there. Read food reviews.

what's the point of going japan if just stroll around hotel and Tokyo area? Tokyo subway per 3 days 2000 yen already. nothing much in Tokyo.
my fav place khaosan world namba osaka. Less than 75 ringgit per night. twin room 150 ringgit. good location
*
Like I said I don't know RM 150 covers which type of transportation, it doesn't mean needs to stay in hotel (that's your assumption).

Just to confirm I'm not able to reload IC cards with credit cards? Does this apply too if I reload from convenience stores? Only cash?

I remember using credit cards in convenience stores in Japan or did I mix it up with another country? hmm.gif

Lastly, I think the answer is pretty obvious but just want to reconfirm that I can't use IC cards on Nagasaki trams? I guess I will probably buy the unlimited rides for 500 yen per day.

If you have to rate from 1 to 10, 10 being the safest.

How safe is Tokyo for female solo traveler?
*
10. Super safe for me. Last trip travelled around Tokyo and Kansai area most of the time on my own, no issue at all. I'm a female too if you are wondering. biggrin.gif However, I have not stayed alone in Japan, blessed with friends in Tokyo and Kobe, hence free accommodation that time. biggrin.gif

Glad to hear that.

Because my little sister wants to travel alone to Tokyo, it's her 2nd in Japan, I'm kinda still worry.
*
I guess common sense still applies regardless where is it, don't walk alone when it's late.

I just came back recently from Vienna and Prague, travelled alone in these two cities. People say they are dangerous especially Prague but honestly I didn't feel threatened at all. Of course, I didn't loiter around when it's getting dark. Thank God, it was summer so daylight was longer and I can walk till 9-10pm and go back to hotel to rest.

I try to avoid travelling alone whenever possible but my job requires extensive business travels and I am always alone during business trips. sweat.gif So, just be careful. But Japan, I'm not so worried though. laugh.gif

JR Kyushu Line can online reserve seats.. For JR Sanyo-San’in-Northern Kyushu Area Pass, I will need to exchange JR pass and book manually. sad.gif cry.gif

I have so many to book and I don't think I can book everything in Hakata? Is it I can do one by one when I reach the cities i.e. Nagasaki, Yufuin and Beppu? This is so time consuming.

Will you know? RegentCid or anyone?

I did it in Tokyo though with another pass. Just tell them the date and time.
*
OK, because RegentCid mentioned they may not allow me to do it, not sure if I misunderstood his statement. sweat.gif

Once u reach Hakata, You able to book those Kyushu Train from Hakata to Nagasaki, Beppu etc etc....
But from Osaka to Hakata period....you cant book those Kyushu train at Osaka Station because Osaka are belong to JR West while Train from Hakata to Nagasaki, Beppu, Yufuin are JR Kyushu.
*
Great! At least I can do it in on the first day I reach Kyushu.
Can I book Hello Kitty ride from Nara? Same region? Or must I do it in Shin-Osaka?

For Yufuin no Mori, I can do it in Hakata right? Despite I will board from Tosu.

I dont think Nara station can do that because Nara Station has no Shinkansen line so they might not have the Shinkansen ticketing computer inside station.
But you can try.  biggrin.gif
*
Then, I don't want to take the risk la. I will drop by Shin-Osaka to exchange ticket and book ride before heading to Nara for whole day. Thanks for the advice so far.

But Yufuin no Mori should be OK to book at Hakata even if I wanna get on at Tosu?

By the way, what do you think of Beppu? It seems the only attraction they have is Hell tour? Visit different hot springs? Otherwise, I will change my destination, may as well from Yufuin straight back to Hakata instead of Beppu. Then I can go to places like for e.g. Kokura, Mojiko? My hotel in Beppu hasn't charged yet. Any advice for me?

There are 2 type of Yufuin no Mori Train. 1 of it got lounge area where you can sit facing the window. This 1 I think is quite popular. When I try to book at Hakata for this particular train morning time to Yufuin for next day, all seat fully taken liou and same for the following 3 or 4 days. I think they book online maybe. Book online need to add another 1000yen every reservation if i not wrong. You can see the timetable Yufuin no Mori 3 & 4 are the one that got lounge area & Yufuin no Mori 1,2,5,6 are just all seat area with mini cafe in middle no lounge & this 1 got a lot of seat available. If you not into that particular train then shouldn't be a problem d.

Yeah, JR Pass Kyushu holders can book online because they don't need to exchange for tickets. cry.gif
People like me have to exchange to JR Pass first only can start booking my rides. doh.gif

And only Mori 3 suits my time as I'm coming from Nagasaki to exchange at Tosu before heading to Yufuin. cry.gif

I will reach Hakata on day 1 and only need to use it on day 5, I hope I still can get two seats with few days advanced booking.. sweat.gif

Don't bank on it. I did it on the very first day when I was in Hakata, and the Yufuin no Mori trains for the day I wanted (4-5 days later) was already fully booked especially for morning departures. End up I just have to take the earliest Yufu 1 train.

Some consolation is at least i managed to get Yufuin no Mori 3 for Yufuin-Beppu when I depart the next day
*
Sigh. That's so sad wei. cry.gif

I wonder if after I get my JR pass in Osaka, then can I do online booking myself for Shinkansen and/or Yufuin no Mori? Link: https://kyushurailpass.jrkyushu.co.jp/reser...33;-130399529?0 and guide: https://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/booking/manual_e.pdf

All inside my 555 booklet  biggrin.gif

Yeah, thanks! biggrin.gif

Hard, Because Shin-Osaka Station are belong to JR West and ''Yufuin No Mori'' Limited Express Train are belong to JR Kyushu
Unless you reserve the seat of ''Yufuin no mori'' thru online website such as klook, and redeem at JR Hakata Station.  You can't redeem at JR Shin-Osaka Station due to JR West.  biggrin.gif
*
Looks like not possible huh even online... sad.gif

Anyway, Hello Kitty Shinkansen takes long time (almost double the time) to reach Hakata from Shin-Osaka, so I plan to get down half way at Okayama and switch to Nozomi to Hakata. Do you think I can book this Nozomi ride from Okayama to Hakata at Shin-Osaka when I book Hello Kitty ride? I want to experience the Hello Kitty ride.. sad.gif But the travel time is too long.

Kokura more like a train transfer hub to Beppu direction. so not much of attraction.
Main attraction was Kokura Castle. (Small but beautiful castle)

Mojiko more like little Otaru. Still got some old European design building + Glass & music box shop just like Otaru.
Mojiko most famous Omiyage was Minato House (Banana product) [something like Tokyo Banana]

*From JR Mojiko Station to Minato House will passing Mojiko famous bridge call Blue Wing Moji.

Beppu got a nickname, called City of Steam.
Beppu most famous attraction are Hell hot spring
My favorite spot watching Beppu city was Yukemuri Observation 湯けむり展望台 and make sure you got Telephoto Lens !!

*obervation not far away from Beppu famous hell hot spring, if you taking Taxi from hot spirng back to Train Station, can detour to Yukemuri Observation first.
*
OMG! Thanks for the video! OK, stick to Beppu then. I plan to join the Hell tour by signing up at Tourist Centre in Beppu station. I hope it stops at that observation deck, else I have to find a way to go there. It's such an amazing view as I have not seen something like that before. laugh.gif

By the way, is Okayama part of Kansai? Can I get my ticket from Osaka? Or else, I have to find another station to get down to change to Nozomi to continue my journey to Hakata. Hello Kitty train is too slow.. Just wanna experience for a short distance, thought Okayama will be a good option but not sure I can book from Shin-Osaka.

i'm going to kyoto + osaka + nara literally next month today
yes, i also saw the night temperature is like genting
but i'm bringing myself wind breaker only

inner layer, that is for like early january...oct is still autumn not winter
*
And mine is same date but two months later. laugh.gif

I will bring one thick jacket which I usually wear with my winter jacket and some thin jackets for my tees.
I'm more concerned on my legs, maybe need to bring a few pairs of long pants... hmm.gif

But I like the weather like 20-ish celcius.

start from 1st of sept, i notice the temp dropped very fast within 1 month
but am still contemplating where to wear long pants or shorts laugh.gif

when you're going, the night temp already like 10-11c...based on weather forecast...should be still fine with long pants
*
I will still bring short pants around as I like cold weather. tongue.gif
If I have worn short pants during winter, spring and autumn in the past, I guess this one should be OK..

Just that don't suddenly drop to 5c then I'm doomed because not bringing any winter jacket this round. laugh.gif
