Yes, need to go queue up. I saw some photos people queue up as early as 6.00 5.00 a.m.
*
5am not really that early. I wake up 6am there, and its like 7am sunrise here. By 7am there its already quite bright. 5am is probably just a while before sunrise.

Alot of Japanese using taxi. For Japan, time is everything....business traveler will used taxi to go any meeting and claim from company.
Japan after work need go social with co-worker and drink until late night, sometimes too late until miss last train then had to take taxi or sleep at comic book / computer store.

if you earn Japanese Yen then price of taxi actually consider reasonable.
*
Even as a tourist, truthfully, I still see their rates as being reasonable considering the transparency of it, availability, much superior level of service, and the hassle free unlike our overpriced yet still plenty of headaches taxies. Even Grab here gives me headaches at times.

what is the problem with GRAB here ?
*
I don't use Grab often, but often on those times when I used my driver could get lost and needing me to guide him back the right way, or laboriously make a longer way around just because the GPS tells him to do that. I find taxi drivers are still better at choosing the best routes around.
But that's just from my experience.

my airbnb booking has been cancelled 3 times in this month, i ask one of the host, they said can not accept the booking over 180 days in a year by the policy

but my booking is on March, confirm less than 180 days  ranting.gif

waiting the host reply....

edit:
after ask the google, i think i miss understand the 180 days
they only allow rent out 180 days per year

i believe the host want save more days for Olympic/peak period to earn more
*
Oh wow! I didn't know they could do that. Shockingly I didn't know they would do that in Japan! Talk about customer service. I feel your worry.

You might have to book Airbnb at less hotspot locations (not near any Olympic venue or quick access to public transports). And you might have to get it at outskirts of Tokyo in that case. Worse come to worse, have to book at proper hotels where they are less likely to cancel ur booking, but of course it won't be cheap.

Hey guys, is it cheaper to buy strawberries/grapes in Kuromon Ichiba/Nishiki market or in supermarkets such as Takashimaya/Isetan/Daimaru? Any other places to recommend?
*
Takashimaya/Isetan are rather higher class malls. If you want something more affordable, can go for supermarkets at AEON malls or Seiyu. But the best value is at the local markets where the locals shop at.

just came back from osaka/kyoto/nara…10days family trip.

some attraction points are trap…lol. not worth to visit at all.

some tips:
4. travel in kyoto use bus more than subway.

5. even travel 1 stop is same cost. plan your route wisely…

8. don't like some places with their late opening hour and early closing hour.
*
Point 4&5. About the bus service, I believe cluster distances have same rate and this rate increase as you move to another cluster (ie Stop 1,2,3 - 120yen, Stop 4,5,6 - 170yen).

Point 8. Even Japan beginning to have work life balance compared to us. Lol!

yea…subway also same.

work life balance? nah…those office guys still wait until after 10pm baru take subway go back home.
*
Well its a start. I see retail and manufacturing/construction(?) are shifting over with earlier closing times. Even when I jalan-jalan at evening can see many blue collars already going back from work. Office staff I guess still follows the old work culture. Probably becoz their paid higher. Malaysia? Everybody works until late no matter which private sector we're in, so we're still worse off than Japan my friend. Whatmore if working for Chinaman companies.

I learnt that if going with womenfolk, must budget time go to shopping malls or shotengais. sweat.gif Perhaps those empty nites you can fill it with visiting these places.

It wasn't in my itinerary when visiting Nagasaki but I visited various shopping malls & shopping streets much more than I had planned sweat.gif sweat.gif

Thanks! Was thinking if I should purchase them from Nishiki market or Kuromon Ichiba market instead hmm.gif
Thank you but I don't understand the words. Are there any names?
Thanks! Do locals shop at Nishiki/Kuromon Ichiba market? hmm.gif
*
Sometimes going to shopping areas where tourist goes to is not such a bad idea as there will be more indications & signs in English and Chinese plus staff that are multilingual. Prices though can be slightly higher.

HI Dear all ,

Family plans to travel to Okinawa for 5 days 4 nights .

Any recommendation for top visitor hot spot that must visit ?

Which area or hotel are recommended to stay ? Nearby the beach or town ?

Pls help

Thanks !!
*
I suggest you start ur reading here https://www.japan-guide.com/list/e1247.html

Okinawa is a chain of islands so are you intending to island hop? People normally go Okinawa more for the beaches and lesser for the WW2 battle history or the Ryukyu history.
What is ur various family member's interests going to Okinawa? That will tell you whether to stay at town (for transportation & sightseeing) or beachside (can play at sea from sun up to sun down). You might even have to stay at consecutively both locations depending on ur itinerary & budget.

Just plan to stay in main island , and plan to rent a car for self drive . Family vacation trip with two kids btwn 8 to 10 yo.
*
So ur planning with significant other? That makes it easier, but still too much location hopping might make children grumpy and too much historical sightseeing might make them boring. Kids certainly wanna play at the beaches or at parks. And the other might wanna do window shopping/ real shopping, so plan to cater to all their wants.

hi guys, is there any kinda snacks / packed food / chocs / instant noodle etc that is a must to try / buy back from Japan which is not available in Malaysia yet? with the influx of DAISOs, Family Marts, Shokikiya....just wondering is there any famous brands which they have not brought it over to our shore yet

heading to Tokeioooo in a month's time.. advice is greatly appreciated =)
*
Go to food section at large standalone Donki's. Ur eyes will bleed at the number of selection. Can even go for halloween/winter thematic foodstuff. Famous stuff are typically overrated (ie 800yen sake Kitkat blink.gif ), just get the things that you like.

Can't wait, I will be travelling to Japan on next Monday. rclxms.gif

Hope you have a nice trip. Stay away from the typhoons and recent storm flood hit areas.

One thing I accidentally found handy is to bring a sufficient sized plastic bag (I keep one in my wallet). It was handy as more and more supermarts are charging for plastic bags. I don't pay for one in Malaysia and I wasn't going to pay for one in Japan. lol!

USJ and Disneyland just famous for the branding name only.

If you really wanted the ''REAL'' Theme park experience, must go Fuji Q highland.
That the real thing  biggrin.gif
*
I been to USS and Legoland Johor before. For US & Disneyland, you really pay for the professionally done up experience. Expensive yes but worth it.

more than enough
i averagely spend RM2.5k for my 1 week in kansai region going osaka, kyoto, nara, kobe
eat until puke, brought back a full suitcase of stuff...many of which not tax refunded
*
That's a really good save you got there considering ur traveling thru kansai region. Me in Nagasaki & Fukuoka ady 3k for everything on ground minus hotel (8days).

depends what u ate actually
if u eat fancy stuff, thn budget need to go up higher
my meal mostly average 1000 yen except for that wagyu beef BBQ buffet which is 4k yen/pax
surprisingly the meal in kansai region quite ok the pricing, famous ramen shop also got 700-900yen
tokyo famous one usually over 1k yen

the ramen street at osaka station...all famous ramen shop...their most expensive one is like 1.2k yen
but it's a huge bowl of ramen + a bowl of fried rice + a side of gyoza = u will puke after eating that much laugh.gif

transportation, i initially loaded 5k yen onto every IC card...end up i needed to add 1k yen for the last day back to airport
*
I see. Does ur budget includes some shopping as well? Mine 3k includes shopping.

If I withdraw cash from 7 Bank, let's just say, 30,000Y. Would I get like 5,000 or 10,000 notes? Reason I'm asking is because I'm using a minimalist wallet and it shouldn't take too many notes.

And to confirm again that the total charges for the cash withdrawals from Maybank debit card is 1.6%?
Konnichiwa! tongue.gif How's the weather there?

Any issues withdrawing cash from Malaysian debit card at the 7 Bank? Also, is it possible to purchase Kansai One Pass using credit/debit card?
*
I change my cash in Malaysia and I bring 2 wallets there, my normal one and a thin one. I put like 20,000y in my normal one and the rest I keep inside the thin one which I keep in my luggage. If I run low I just topup from the thin one.

Exchange rate in Japan is really bad, and I guess withdrawing there eats some percentage interest.
