any update on tx6 heating issues and aotg compatibility?

would like to get a tv box for my parents, currently torn between getting tx3 mini or tx6.
considering getting tx6 due to the ram and storage and the price difference is getting smaller. (tx3 2+16G RM110 / tx6 4+32G RM150)
any recommendation?

FYI
usage will be on a 1080p tv, so no need for 4k.
they like to watch astro AEC, so aotg compatibility is required. (i am personally using njoinow for free, is aotg the same?)
they also always watch astro HHD those hokkien taiwan drama.

some other questions
the tv box from the recommended shopee seller comes with any pre-installed apps?
I have read that tx3 mini support youtube playback at at max of 720p, can any user verify? (even on modded app like smart youtube tv?)
has anyone tried 1080p x265 decoding as well?

tx6... the last time i checked in another forum, heating issue is still there.
astrogo... to date, no one here has confirmed it will work on tx6 alto some online sellers say yes.

njoinow is free, very limited channels.
astrogo needs an existing subscriber to register to get id/pw.
with this id/pw, 4 people can use astrogo app at any one time.
what channels the subscriber has with decoder, astrogo gets the same, not more, not less.

i have tried current njoinow app on tx3mini - it does NOT work.
likely it needs a modified version, just like astrogo v8.2.6 modified.
but i have not found any.
how are you using njoinow? with what device?

if u are able to get astrogo id/pw from subscriber with the right channels/packs, i suggest u go for tx3mini 2+16gb.
this model is proven, easy to close root to make it work.
it is ultra cheap, u can replace with newer model in near future if u wish.
do not judge a box by 2+16 or 4+32 or 4+64gb.
a lot more depends on the firmware when it comes to reliability and smoothness in usage.

Tx6 operating temperature is high, I can confirm that. Definitely higher than the Tx3 mini. Much warmer on the fingers.
Whether it is overheating, is tough to confirm. If really overheating after a period of time and the Tx6 autoshuts down, then that is a real concern. But as far as previous users comments are concerned, there are none such complaints.

It is all in the hardware design, Amlogic chips operates at a lower temperature, and that is why Tx3 mini enclosure does not need any ventilation holes for cooling. Tx6 running on Allwinner operates on a higher temperature, and that is why the much needed ventilation holes designed on to the enclosure. So it can be argued that Tx6 needs passive cooling and even the design engineers admit that.

As for the Tx3, and this coming from experience. 24 hours non stop binge watching Game of Thrones in a ceiling fan room, the box is still good there after. I wouldn't do the same with the Tx6.

Albeit the price difference is Rm40 between the two models with the huge upgrade in RAM+ROM, it is a tough call which is worth buying more than the other. Previously it was a meagre RM30 difference, and Tx6 sales shot up. Now things are back in balance.

Since your requirement is Astro App, then the obvious choice is Tx3 mini. Tx6 directly out from the factory is rooted with Alice UX, and unable to run Astro App. Some local sellers were able to unroot the box manually, and promote their boxes as Astro Compatible.

As for HHD (Hokkien Channel), the dramas in this channel is mostly available in youtube and quite commonly found in Taiwan Channels easily obtainable in free IPTV apps (however stability of these channels are questionable, as is all things free)
If you wish for the actual Astro HHD Channel, then it depends if your Astro Account package has this channel. AEC is confirmed free even with a free registrered account. Other wise, subscribe to the ahem ahem iptv services which we shall not discuss here.

The Shopee China Seller doesn't not sell boxes with pre-install apps, but has a great repository of apks shared by a local Malaysian that caters to a variety of audience. If you do buy from this seller, be sure to ask for the latest Filelinked pin and make sure you share it in here or pm me.... . Dunno what Filelinked is, ask the seller to explain.

Tx3 can do 1080p. Can watch Twitch > DOTA 2 games comfortably at 1080p
Once you have the sellers repository, you would use the Modded Smart Youtube TV and the Youtube Vanced instead of the official Youtube app.

H265, some videos can, some videos cannot, depends on video source. Normally I notice it is not the hardware problem, but more to the necessary codec not available. So it is hard to say, you may even have the latest Amlogic AM905X2, and still have problems playing certain H265 streams. This from my own experience.

be sure to get an air mouse for your parents to use the Astro Go app.
The IR remote can do the job but a bit of hassle selecting and changing channels.
And I find out old folks don't like the Wireless keyboard with the touch pad for mouse, fingers just not steady enough.

Shouldn't need the sellers repository for these two apps. There is no secret in these. In fact Smart Youtube TV is open source.

Probably forgot to mention, all the apps are freely available on the internet. With a good filelinked repository, it makes it easier to find and download them. Depending on the filelinked, the creator might put a short description or comment of the apps. Some filelinked are frequently updated as a convenience to the users.

Google and you probably find the lot of them even in facebook.

Tx6 confirmed can run astro on the go original apk without modding the apk. Tx3 max/mini also can run original apk. How do I know? I am seller myself. LOL

Note to u guys.. if you are planning to install any version of SUPERSU for your Sunvell TV box, T9 something, something.. any models.. t95z, t95x whatsoever.. please stop wat you are doing.. potentially can brick ur device.. and recovering these boxes are not easy.. good luck finding which pins to short to recover the box..

u dont need to be astro subscriber to create ur aotg id.. anyone can subscribe.. same with playtv@unifi even u are not TM customer.. both is available to sign up with FB or email/mobile number.. with aotg free, you get the free channels sucs as awani, prima, and some other chinese/indian free channels.. similar to what u can watch on njoi decoder minus all RTM and media prima channels.. only if u want to watch extra channels ie sports, documentaries etc, then you can either purchase it through the app (requiress google account, most probably pay using google wallet, the reason why aotg now no longer works on box putih).. or smart way, kantau with ur neighbor, bff, scandals, kekasih gelap and ask them for their smartcard is and link ur aotg account to them..

not sure about that.. as i dont go and purchase any of it.. i got my aotg account after helping my in laws create it for them.. some more all channels including korean.. that's y if u have friends, siblings, anyone, then cooperate and maybe share the burden of paying him/her monthly astro subscription..

I didn't realise you are not aware of this. I always mentioned these free available channels for Astro Go. All one person needs is a facebook account to register an AstroID to watch the free available channels.

The channels are the same for those with expired AstroID (no longer paying Astro Customers)

As for Unifi Play TV, a mobile phone number is required to register a free Unifi ID to use the Unifi Play TV to watch free channels with 1st month open trial.

There are 4 channels without any form of Security encryption on the streaming. Pick up the url stream and you can stream it with VLC or any IPTV app. Don't have to use AstroGo app to watch these 4 channels.

Go Shop Chinese.

These four channels are also watchable on Rooted devices with Modded AstroGo app with AstroID Login. Same as before the modded app is to bypass the first stage jailbroken detection. On Tx3 with Close Super User, these 4 and all the other free channels are available without a spinning red arrow (second stage detection).

I do know that w/o id, pw, one can get some free channels with astrogo app, like arena.
These channels are available in many other apps, easy to get, little value.

I did not know u can register independently to get some more free channels.

Anyway, do u have the astro links for more details?
Like to know more how one on his own can register and buy, what can he buy, what terms, period, price.
VOD is not useful but say movies pack, then can get hbo go too?

Yes, Arena is available free without login on unrooted devices. ON rooted devices, can't get this channel even with mod apk.
Actually Arena is encrypted now, this channel is not easily available anymore in other IPTV apps..

What I do not know is that AstroGo can have 4 concurrent devices to watch live Astro Channels at the same time. This is news to me.

As it has always been my understanding, we can register 4 devices to watch, but only 2 devices can be active at any one time.

However there is no limit to the number of device changes you can do in a month, unlike Unifi which limits device changes in a month.

Example, I have a 5th device using the same AstroID account and login. It would immediate prompt to remove one of the 4 older registered device to continue.

Using subscriber acc, it is well known.

Nope.. all 4 devices can watch at the same time.. this is not like netflix.. one profile, one viewing session.. u can do maximum 4 changes for 1 cycle month to sign out existing device..

If 5th device want to sign in, you will need to sign out at least 1 previous device..

This is demonstration of multiple models, manufacturers of android tv box that is able to successfully run aotg.. all of the boxes are running on original 8.2.6, unmodded, untouched apk.. either sideload through apkpure or downloaded from apkmirror.. how to unroot and get aotg running? Sorry, I can't tell.. please respect my decision not to tell.. after going through multiple bootloop, bricked box, reflash firmware due to unsuccessful unroot, I managed to get some devices running with astro on the go.. to save the hassle, please look for local seller in shopee/lazada that promotes astro on the go ready for their products.. price is higher?? yes, higher than china based sellers.. but i dont think china based oversea sellers will ever entertain you if you ask them to install astro on the go, or go unroot their box.. yes, you get cheaper price, but u get what u paid for..

or better, go for mibox s/3s (international/english version, not the lousy china version).. the box is confirmed unrooted, and can run aotg without any modifications.. you will only need to install a screen rotation app, as you might need to tilt your head everytime you launch aotg on mibox.. dont forget to get airmouse, as can enhance your android box experience..
