The underground not really underground lah..just bcos the old ruin palace is on top of the hill and the walkway is on gropund level wth all the slump houses side by side and they termed it underground haha..Just a passage to Tmn Sari King's swimming pool...I find the swimming pool more interesting.. more like those ancient Balinese royal bath but much newer than those really ancient Balinese Royal bath...I imagine those 1/2 naked gundik-gundik swimming wth the ancient Kings there drool.gif

One SHOULD check out the "aztec"-like candi Sukuh @ Solo. The only step-pyramid in south-east asia.

Another not-to-be missed is the Ramayana Ballet @ Prambanan temple. Just have the buffet dinner there right b4 the 2hours+ show.

Another 'hidden' secret is the ancient underground mosque in jogja's kraton complex.

@littleprawn your pics bring back good memories!!

Are you kidding..I dun even call this underground tunnel..just a walkway surrounded by slump houses haha..Here's the photo of the tunnel wth the roof on top & the houses built both side of the "tunnel"
user posted image

Long-long time ago, these houses and also houses that surrounded this palace ruin (Pulau Cemeti) are man-made pool and this gigantic pool is connected from the current Kraton Palace. The Sulatn will take the boat and row till this palace & connecting the palace ruin to the Royal Bath where he enjoy naked bath wth his gundiks.. biggrin.gif

Here's the overall layout of Taman Sari & you can see the man-made pool extended to Kraton Palace..The pool now occupied by houses dy

Pulau Cemeti ruin or the other Royal palace wth the tunnel & underground mosque...Well, for me not really underground lor.. biggrin.gif. The ruin reminded me of M'cca St Paul Church ruin

Looking at yr pics brings back plenty of good memory.  biggrin.gif
Stayed 2 nights at Manohara hotel and enjoyed it, esp being able to visit Borobudur (numerous time) early when it's cooler and before the crowd.
From your pics, looks like it's still very well maintained.

We were taken to the entrance gate by van from the hotel for the sunrise tour.
I've still got the torchlight with me. It's a unique and surreal experience.  thumbup.gif

wah, got van send go so good~ haha~ biggrin.gif
we walk in the darkness and agreed that its really an unique experience~ rclxms.gif

Huh? the 1st photo of the entrance looks like you taken it from almsot same area where I took the rooftop of the tunnel and the surrounding resident houses wor..That the foot of the ruin wor..so u must have step to the ruin without you realising it haha..or u din enter the ruin and just outside?

Anyway, what i trying to tell is from the photo & look of the tunnel, it can't be the longest tunnel walkway kau as what another forumer said haha

Anyway, what the guide told me, the tunnel is just a link to the so called 'Underground mosque which for me also same road level as those surrounding houses haha & not fill wth water.

The water is the same man made pool as you can see from the maps of Taman Sari plan I posted earlier. The Sultan will take the boat from the big pool near Kraton & row to till the end of the narrow pool where the ruin and walk to Taman Sari Royal Bath..Interesting story when he retold how the Sultan ended up naked with all his gundiks at the pool haha

Manohara is the only hotel located inside the Borobudur temple area~
Guest have unlimited access to the temple within opening hours~
Not sure whether there are any hotels there~

I just stay there for a night cause wanna join the sunrise Borobudur tour~
The next day, after my visit to Dieng Plateau, i moved to Vogels Hostel in Kaliurang for the Sunrise Mount Merapi trekking~

This trip i have 2 sunrise tour, haha~ biggrin.gif

Day2 Continued~

After visiting Candi Arjuna Complex we head to Jalatunda Well~
The driver told us that if someone who can throw a stone beyond the crater and hit the mountain wall at the end, their wish will come true~
Dont worry if u cant find any rocks, a local will be selling rocks there~ sweat.gif
1k Rupiah for 3 rock~
My driver said he wanted to throw so i buy 3 rocks~ This is the 1st time i buying tepi jalan rocks~ sweat.gif
First throw by driver cant reach, Second throw by me cant reach, finally third throw by driver reach~ So his wish will be granted~ rclxms.gif

Less people visiting this kawah, only we were there~
We have to walk down a path to reach Kawah Sileri~

Our last attraction is Candi Dwarawati~
Waking up so early for the Borobudur sunrise trip and visiting so many candi and kawah, we feel a bit exhausted already~
We ask our driver whats special about Candi Dwarawati~ hmm.gif
He replied "Its just like other candi that you see"
We were like "Okay..." sweat.gif
Since we travel so far i guess we better finish the last candi haha~ tongue.gif

To go Candi Dwarawati, we have to pass by those housing area off the mainroad~
And the road can be quite narrow~
Finally we reach the last candi~

Tnx for sharing...Bringing back my memory going to this ancient Cameron Highland of java haha..If we think CH really bad bcos of over-exploitation, Dieng Plateau even worst been harvested since ancient time wth the candi Arjuna which is even older than Brobodur & Prambanan.

From Littleprawn photos, you can see the extend of the land been harvested..even to the mouth of small volcano rim (The small kawah sileri)

@ stimix, hope to share more of this beautiful place to others~
looks like not many people visit Jogja~
the locals there seems to "fully utilizing" the whole hill~ sweat.gif

Day2 Continue~

On the way to Kaliurang and going down the hill~
Suddenly lots of mist appear~
user posted image

On the road half way, suddenly driver pull over~
Driver said he hungry and wanna have dinner~ sweat.gif
My driver so cool~ haha~ tongue.gif
To be honest its really almost dinner time, the last we eat is the Me ongklok~ tongue.gif

So we choose one of the 2 stall available beside the road to eat~
user posted image

The Menu~ Hmmm~
user posted image

This is what i order~ I think its Nasi Goreng Telur~ A bit Spicy~ i cant tahan spicy~ sweat.gif
user posted image

My friend order this~ Dono which ayam dish she order dy~
She said its good because of the sauce but its very spicy haha~ tongue.gif
user posted image

After dinner we continue our journey to Kaliurang~
Its advisable not to travel at night since its quite dangerous due to the narrow downhill road and its dark~
A lorry even breakdown due to the road condition and we have to wait awhile till it move aside~

We reach Kaliurang after some time~
Since its at night, driver had a bit difficulty finding the hostel~
But we finally made it there safely~

Mr Christian Awuy, the hostel owner @ tour guide have to wake up and greet us~ blush.gif
He asked us to rest early since we have to wake up in the wee hours for the trekking~
We quickly check in and rush to our room~

Here's how the room look like~

So, thats all for Day2 of my trip~

Dieng Plateau is far away from Jogja and although the distance might not be far but due to the narrow road condition, just to travel there will take >3 hrs..and similar hrs on returning trip..
