Stayed there for 2 nights in Mar 08  thumbup.gif

MANOHARA HOTEL is the only one hotel located inside of Borobudur Archeological Park where the Borobudur stand.
Manohara Hotel provides free access to Borobudur Park beginning at 06:00 to 17:00.
Borobudur is just 200 meters away from the hotel and about 5 minutes walk.

Hi littleprawn, what is the reason to stay close to Borobudur?
*
hi waisang, the reason stay near to borobudur is stated by 10&Counting~ rclxms.gif
gotta planned my itinerary now, 3 more months to go~ doh.gif

QUOTE(10&Counting @ Feb 12 2011, 01:13 AM)
Yes, I would, reviews on TripAdvisor are good except for few bad ones about room condition.

The rooms were clean while I was there.
I really enjoyed my stay there.  thumbup.gif

The advantages:

1.  Free-of-charge unlimited admission at anytime for different snapshot of the temple
Need to pay if staying outside.

2. Can get to temple early (opens at 6:00) before the busloads of tourist and students arrive.
Cooler and very tranquil in the early morning. Few people around at that time.
    Go before breakfast

3. Fantastic view from the hotel (breakfast area). Can see all those people going up the temple while having breakfast.

4. Nice compound and garden

Currently doing abit of research on my trip there nxt mth...I think this time abit too long 5D4N and I'm thinking of doing a day trip to Semarang too visiting Cheng Ho Sam Po Kong and also the chinatown there..Anyone been to Semarang via Jogya b4 & return on the same day? from the maps not really far ~ 120KM away.

My rough 5d4N itineraries probably:

Day 1 - Jogya local attractions, Paratitis beach & arranging transport to Borobudor nxt day
Day 2: Borobudor &  Dieng Plateu
Day 3: Prabanam & all temples surrouning that area
Day 4: - Semarang??? or Solo - towards Mt Lawu attractions such as Suwuh pyramid -erotic temple & Balinese style Chetto temple?
Day 5: Rest & Relax bck to M'sia
Do comment esp the pack Day 2 itineraries to Borobudor & Dieng Platieu..

thanks for mentioning some new places like semarang~
i tot onli got yog, solo & dieng there~
now scratching my head planning 7d6n trip to yog~ rclxub.gif
will be going with 2 of my colleagues~

found out that semarang have an interesting place called Gedung Lawang Sewu, a Dutch colonial building built in 1863~
when the Japanese invaded in 1942, they used it as a gruesome interrogation headquarter where they jailed and killed a lot of people~
There are reports of multiple ghost sightings in this building~ Source Tripadvisor
Looks like an interesting place to visit~ thumbup.gif
Not sure my female colleagues interested to go boh~ tongue.gif

btw, suwuh pyramid is nearby, Mt Lawu?
cant seem to find anything about it on the net~ the search result show "sunway pyramid" doh.gif

BTW, littleprawn, Another trivia of Semarang is..This is a city wth sizeble Chinese and one of the 1st city in Indonesia wth Chinese migrants since Cheng Ho last visit in 15th century. So wanna see their chinatown. smile.gif  Jogja chinatown is a bit small from yogyes website..
*
the Cheng Ho Sam Po Kong looks interesting along with the chinatown~
my colleague already warned me not to plan a tiring trip haha~ tongue.gif

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Feb 18 2011, 09:58 PM)
oh laidet sound a bit more reasonable liao.  Semarang sounds interesting lah - interesting architecture, waterfront, then nearby got a place called Jepara which is something like the centre for teak furniture in that part of the world.  I think most of my teak furniture come from there liao! drool.gif

I might do a circuit - Solo -  Yogya (+Borobudur & Prambanan) - Dieng - Semarang - Solo, and if still got time, go Gunung Lawu.
*
wah, i also wan gdo circuit ler~ Yog - Dieng - Semarang - Solo - Yog~
Btw, those driver at yogyes rate is cheap but it state "in city"
so thats mean izzit within yog city itself?
if i wan do the circuit , anyone know how much for the driver?

If wana do circuit, The best I think have to rent & drive liao..driver is cheap but you need to pay for his hotel & food too. Furthermore, rental will no longer 12 hrs but 24hrs liao. Anyway still cheap-lah compare to bali.

This time around i might be getting pickup truck towards Dieng,,.dunwan to hv the underpower experience driving a 1.3 suzuki jeep going up even to Kintamani in Bali  doh.gif

Darn already booke my hotel..I wanna stay overnite at Dieng/mageleng/Semarang..probably hv to cancel 1 nite at Jogya liao
*
U really geng lor~ Drive ownself when travelling~ rclxms.gif
my fren suggest taking train to solo for a day trip then back to yog~

gonna do lots of research this weekend~ rclxub.gif

I'm going to yogya at the end of next month.

Assuming i stay at malioboro street, how far is it from Prambanan and Borobudur?

Also, if i were able to go to one place only, is it better to go to Solo or Dieng Plateau?

Thanks!
*
if at malioboro to borobudur is ard 1hr and to prambanan is ard 25min based on google map~
Solo is not city/town like and Dieng is more kampung feel~

i prefer Dieng over solo but the journey to Dieng can be challenging~ smile.gif

Got.  If you take the more expensive room at the back, I think got ensuite shower with heater.  If you take the cheaper rooms, Rp70,000, you get hot water from a tap into a bucket in the common bathroom, and mix it with some cold water.
*
Oh thanks for the fast reply~
the driver gonna stay with me in 1 room & the girls in another~
hope to hear more on your travel updates~

glad to hear about the review on those candi near by solo like candi sukuh~
makes me more anticipating about the trip~ rclxms.gif

QUOTE(kneok @ May 20 2011, 12:30 AM)
i'm now in jogja. Went for a borobudur (excellent) and dieng day tour. Dieng i think you need one whole day to cover. In the morning i reached there 1 and half hour only from borobudur but dieng was a bit rushed. Also, it was too foggy by the time i reached there, couldnt really see anything. Telaga warna also a let down because so many kids loitering around the area playing loud music. The guide (so mahal, sohai and refused to nego his price) wasnt bothered to take us all around, kept telling us that one day is not enough to bring us around dieng. its true, but dieng was dissapointing for me.

If you are at borobudur, look for a guide named Hari. He cannot speak english well, just indonesian and japanese, but he is very funny, informative and knows how to take a damn good picture! If you're going to dieng skip telaga warna (can only see the colour if you hike up the hill) and go for telaga menjer instead.
*
wow, thanks for the info~
i too will be going to dieng from borobudur coz staying 1 night at manohara hotel~
i just google telaga menjer and looks like its situated on the route between wonosobo to telaga warna~
so did u stop by at telaga menjer? how is it?

i'll be stopping by at wonosobo to try their mie onglok~
hope my stomach wont go turning back on me~ tongue.gif

btw, i'm curious, why do we need to hire guide in dieng? hmm.gif
some of the blogs also hire guide but they received not so good services~
area such as sikidang with guide i understand but i'm not sure place like candi arjuna, telaga warna need guide~
how much did the guide quote you?
need to prepare in advance 1st~ smile.gif
