Currently doing abit of research on my trip there nxt mth...I think this time abit too long 5D4N and I'm thinking of doing a day trip to Semarang too visiting Cheng Ho Sam Po Kong and also the chinatown there..Anyone been to Semarang via Jogya b4 & return on the same day? from the maps not really far ~ 120KM away.

My rough 5d4N itineraries probably:

Day 1 - Jogya local attractions, Paratitis beach & arranging transport to Borobudor nxt day
Day 2: Borobudor & Dieng Plateu
Day 3: Prabanam & all temples surrouning that area
Day 4: - Semarang??? or Solo - towards Mt Lawu attractions such as Suwuh pyramid -erotic temple & Balinese style Chetto temple?
Day 5: Rest & Relax bck to M'sia

Do comment esp the pack Day 2 itineraries to Borobudor & Dieng Platieu..

I intend to rent & drive myself wor..cheaper and more choices without the driver reluctant to go certain places or even stopping as & when you want smile.gif

From this sitem, car rental is suprisinglyu cheap and even cheaper than Bandung & Bali

http://www.yogyes.com/en/yogyakarta-car-rental/

I haven't call them yet...Right now thinking of updating 1st page on places of interest... smile.gif
I hv booked my hotel with 1001 malam hotell..Cheap..Only RM88 + RM21 tax/fee via agoda. Trying to cover as many of the ancient temples as possible.. Too bad, i notice that those ancient temples having ridicolous pricing just like Angkor Wat..darnnnnn mad.gif

My Mt Lawu trip thinking of visit the South Amercian shape pyramid temple of Suwuh...Wanna see the so called the erotic ancient temple of fertility drool.gif But if going to Semarang, chances are I'm not going to Solo.

Yeah i think Dieng & borobudor within 1 day also difficult but if i start early ~ 4am from jogya probably can kua? since both on the same way. I'm not sure about the Int License but from what I know, most Asean countries recognised each other license except Cambodia, laos, myanmar & Vietnam. I rented & drove twice in Bali and stopped few times by Balinese policemen ..no problem at all..One of them even guide me to one of the attraction in Bali haha

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Feb 18 2011, 06:25 PM)
Wah, I am also thinking of going to the Dieng Plateau and Semarang.  At firstht thought want to climb Gunung Lawu, but my travelling mate not keen on too much exertion.  Stimix, I think you are mad to do Borobudur and the Dieng Plateau both in one day.  Departure 26 Feb.  Notchet book anything except my ticket!  Hmm, must think about hiring a car, if it is cheap.  But if the roads are like North Sumatra hor, pengsan.  rclxub.gif

Stimix so you confirm liao our Malaysian licence valid in Indon?  And you are confident of driving around in Java Tengah????  I might just get a car and drive to Borobudur and the Dieng Plateau.  Then Prambanan rent bike, yippeeee.

Hmnnnprobably stay overnite there kua? OK redo my research on Hotel at Dieng plateau..probably going direct from Dieng to Semarang the nxt day & back to Jogja?? hmm.gif

BTW, littleprawn, Another trivia of Semarang is..This is a city wth sizeble Chinese and one of the 1st city in Indonesia wth Chinese migrants since Cheng Ho last visit in 15th century. So wanna see their chinatown. smile.gif Jogja chinatown is a bit small from yogyes website..

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Feb 18 2011, 09:36 PM)
Er, I've seen all the erotic sculpture in Nepal, jelat liao.  I just want to bag another volcano that's all.  Quite high this Gunugn Lawu.  I'm flying in to Solo, and probably going straight to Yogya from there.  Solo will be my last stop before catching the flight back.  I still think you're mad to do Borobodur and the Dieng Plateau all in one day.  I think doing a day trip from Yogya to the Dieng Plateau is already mad.

If wana do circuit, The best I think have to rent & drive liao..driver is cheap but you need to pay for his hotel & food too. Furthermore, rental will no longer 12 hrs but 24hrs liao. Anyway still cheap-lah compare to bali.

This time around i might be getting pickup truck towards Dieng,,.dunwan to hv the underpower experience driving a 1.3 suzuki jeep going up even to Kintamani in Bali doh.gif

Darn already booke my hotel..I wanna stay overnite at Dieng/mageleng/Semarang..probably hv to cancel 1 nite at Jogya liao

QUOTE(littleprawn @ Feb 18 2011, 10:12 PM)
Btw, those driver at yogyes rate is cheap but it state "in city"

From what I read, and my experience in Bali, Bandung, Medan, Public transport to all attractions in these areas are not easy and the best is either rent a car (For those daring & having GPS) or car wth drivers.

This will cost you more on transport as avg cost ~ 350K-450K rupiah/day (For package) but saving your frustration on getting right transport.

Anyone renting car & drove before to Dieng willing to share theior experience? Bcos that's my worry of driving high up there esp wth underpowered car.

When I was in Bandung last year, thinking of what you're thinking. Check wth the driver and told me possible but travel to Jogja from Bandung itself is almost 7-8hrs due to bad road condition. We decided not to.

QUOTE(spiderwick @ Feb 24 2011, 10:12 PM)

I'm also thinking of covering both Dieng & Borobudor within a day but probably will be very rush bcos to Dieng already ~3hrs journey & probably spend 3 hrs there b4 rushing to borobudor for sunset (~ 4.30pm) By the time reach Jogja probably 9pm dy..

1 stone kill 2 birds haha. So your timing probably abit hard..bcos..Arriving at Jogja at 8:35 am..but passing thru immigrationg & baggagese + looking for transport will be another 1-1.5 hrs wated. and going direct to Dieng +3hrs & etc..yopu probably back to Jogja by midnite dy. biggrin.gif

To Chetto & Suwuh temples probably OK.. hmm.gif

QUOTE(waisang @ Mar 3 2011, 11:48 PM)
my driver told me that i can do Borobudur+Dieng for one day trip.

The problem is...& wth other volcanopes in Indon as what I experienced b4.. You need to reach there early in the Morning or b4 Afternoon. Otherwise by Evening or after 1-2pm, the whole area will be blanketed wth thick mist/cloud just like Genting & you see nothing!!

So better plan to go Dieng in the Morning and cover it b4 the cloud covered teh whole area. Borobudor, probably thereafter.

Anyway, If you thinking of staying there overnite than shoulod be OK..bcos you can go Borobudor 1st & by the time Dieng already Evening ..just sleep & visit those attractions nxt Morning kua?

I have not been to Jogja yet. What I mean based on my Bali, Medan, Bandung & Jakarta experiences haha

I'm also in the midst of planning...

My idea:

Day 1: Check-in after arriving at Jogja @8:35am (For sure you are not even step out of airport by atleast 9:30am!). Reaching hotel ~ 10-11am. Either check-in or put luggages at hotel.. Thereafter look for car rental..(Can be at airport or outside hotels/hotel)

Round - Jogja, Parantitis Beach

Day 2: Dieng platiue start at 5am. & thereafter to Borobudor

Day 3: To Prabanam & surrounding temples (there are atlest 3-4 more interesting temples there

Day 4: To Slo Suwoh & Chetto temples

Day 5: back to KL

Too bad I already booked my hotel at Jodja liao...Dun intend to spend a nite there..So the only choice is to cover Borobudor on the same day..yeah expectig coming back to Jodja late probably ~ 9-10pm..not the 1st time facing this as I did the same long journey from Taipei to huelien & Taroko gorge -Taipei which is the distance of KL-penang -KL within a day b4 biggrin.gif

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Mar 4 2011, 07:12 PM)

Doing Dieng and Borobudur in one day hmmm, very tiring and you're not doing  Dieng enough justice.  I suggest driving straight to Dieng after getting your car on the first day, and then spend the night at Dieng.  This will get you into Dieng latest by 5 before it gets dark.  There is nothing to do in Dieng at night though.  Just enjoy the cool air and the smell of fertilizer and the azan calls.  You will then be fresh and relaxed for an early morning start on Day 2 to go to Sembungan.  You might even consider getting there to watch the sunrise; this is apparently de rigeur.  Then you have the rest of the morning to visit the Telaga Warna, the Candi Arjuna and a couple of kawah.  If you drive back down to Wonosobo for lunch and leave for Borobodur by 1, you should be able to manage a couple of hours visiting time there before it gets dark.  Day 3 go to Prambanan, surrounding temples, and Parangtritis.  Day 4 go to Solo and the candi sukuh and Cehto.  Very packed and tiring I think.  I would just save Solo and the temples there for another trip.

Yeah CIMB nowadays very strong in Indonesia..Even lotsa branches in Jakarta & Bandung..Too bad I'm on maybank..& Maybank acquired the lost making bak in Indon haha biggrin.gif

Darn wth the 5pm rule....Tnx for the info mad.gif

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Mar 4 2011, 10:29 PM)
Don't forget woh, they close the temple around 5 or 6.  At Prambanan, they close at 5, and by six, all remaining visitors they shoo out liao.  Anyway, if you are confident you can speak Malay wif a very convincing Indon accent, you can try and get local priced tickets.  Damn cheap compared to the USD15 for foreigners.

Oh, another tip, Yogya and Solo brimming wif CIMB branches and ATM.  I think if you got a CIMB account, you can withdraw money for free.

Those highland maps always like dat even to Genting/ Cameron highland it can runs by few hundred metres wan..all due to those summits keep on reflecting the signal everywhere & probably earlier ppl who track it probably got diff tracklogs...& no one corrected it...Our malfreemaps/malsingmaps on both Genting & CH hv been revised numerous times till getting better nowadays..previously also like what you experienced in Dieng area..

QUOTE(PangurBan @ Mar 4 2011, 10:40 PM)
Not sure OK, because we went there in the morning; but I think shouldn't be any different from Prambanan.  Maybe you can check the opening times from some webpage somewhere.  Another thing, the Java map I downloaded from malfreemaps very funny, or maybe my Garmin not behaving well, but EVERYTHING above 900 m in elevation got blotted out by the elevation shading.  Everything's fine on my Mapsource.
