This homeless man has been seen occasionally hanging around the Kentucky Chicken at the corner of Jalan 21/19,Sea Park, PJ. He's in his 70s. Some of the customers there will buy him a meal there every now and then. He said he used to stay at his friend's house, but has since been kicked out by the landlord. I offered to help him try applying for welfare aid, but he seems reluctant to give his IC details. He used to hang around there fairly often, but less frequently since they renovated the place a few months ago. I've told the Salvation Army about him, but without a contact address or phone number, it's going to be difficult for them to catch sight of him. If anyone of you happen to be there, maybe you can see what you can do for him. He said his name is Cheah Chin Meng. |

QUOTE(Tham @ Nov 24 2018, 05:45 PM) He's in his 70s, as I said. If you work all the time, everything will be fine. If you sit down and wait all the time, everything will ruined. This is the price he paid when he was not that old. If handicap can be forgive but not those with complete body parts. My relative got diabetes and high blood also go work at pasar, my friend got high blood and little sight problem also never give up and now help people to cut wood to earn a living. This morning I just saw a FB post regarding a Malay girl from Singapore wearing Grab shirt with Grab bag on a wheelchair in MRT to deliver something to someone. So many unfortunate people out there struggling for living without asking free stuffs from someone, how you convince me to help a person who is less unfortunate and even refused to go to gov social welfare home? He still can choose that's mean he don't need help. The world is cruel we all know that. Many FOC old folks houses out there need fund so we should help them instead of a person can lepak outside. He stands and walks shakily with a hunch. Wait till your time comes. We'll see if anyone helps you then. |

Admittedly, the world is cruel, men cheating and being cheated, deceiving and being deceived. In this corrupt world, someone may gain sympathy to his or her own advantage.
Nevertheless, there is happiness in giving than in receiving. There is no good solution to accommodate the homeless and unemployed nationwide. I imagine the charitable organization would need to educate and train the homeless in addition to shelter and food. And it would be a long term goal. Our individual help is limited. We may help the Uncle Cheah to find a retirement home, to apply for welfare assistance, or like the customers at KFC offering meals, or like the orginal poster Tham posting in bulletin board for attention from the general public. |

He didn't "refuse to go to a social welfare home" . I offered to help him try applying for the "Bantuan Orang Tua" welfare aid of RM300 a month. For some reason, I don't know why, he was hesitant to let me have his IC. Whatever his past, we don't bother, nor does it make a difference now. He is disadvantaged, with no income, old and alone in this world. Nobody knows - one day we may be like that, however well off you may be now. Lots of people go bankrupt, lose jobs, businesses fail over the years. If you can help him, good. If not, there is nothing more to say. |

QUOTE(saikia2046 @ Nov 24 2018, 01:35 PM) Dude you are being harsh. Not everyone in this world have equal mindset. This old man might also have psychological issue. He could be mentally handicapped or his mindset might be in the wrong place due to all the hardship that he has been facing. It is not easy being alone in this work with you have lost your direction in life. For these people, even maintaining a job is beyond their capability, not so much as physical but more like psychological. No one in their right mind would want to be homeless and begging for food.I think TS have a good point of trying to help this man get registered with social welfare department. They would be able to help. If TS or anyone staying nearby who can help, try to find out what whether can get his IC to be registered with social welfare. Without knowing anything, he may even be fresh out from jail and or even a drug addict. However, from the picture he seems like a decent old man. Oh well...life is harsh. |

Will have to give up on this case. I haven't seen the man for several weeks. The Salvation Army also told me that they could not find him after going to the Kentucky several times. If he had given me some friend's number, at least could contact him. I don't think he's coming back there. |
