In the dell website, the option for Celeron M processor is only available for 1420. Core 2 Duo Processor option is available for 1420,1520 and 1720. biggrin.gif

This celeron M540 1.86Ghz is of the new platform, and just released at July. It is also using INTEL 965 chipset as well. No other notebook company is using this latest processor now as far as i observed.

As for my brother's 1420 which is also using this processor, there is no problem at all running Vista (but now I've formatted it and loaded it with XP). The spec is also quite good (given free memory upgrade to 1GB DDR2 RAM and Free delivery) and it comes with INTEL X3100 integrated video card. The performance I can say is that it is not slow(used for web browsing, word processing and some light game). Good recommendation, actually prefer the 1420 size compared to my 1520 which weighs far more than 1420.

Be careful if you choose the matte black colour, it sticks your finger grease very well and leaves a lot of grease (not fingerprint though) on the surface which is quite troublesome to clean of compared to my alpine white 1520 which have none of these problem at all.

tslim2531, how much is your 1420 with Celeron M?

I checked the site and the spec is very very basic and if I customized to meet my 1520 spec (excluding 2GB RAM and 256MB NVIDIA GPU), the price is touching RM 3k.

LCD leakage problems is normal for notebook LCD ... as long as it is not serious , its ok ....

sometime even after u ask for replacement due to light leakage , the other unit u received may be more serious than the current 1 ... biggrin.gif

for scratch , kindly phone dell and ask for another unit ... bear wif it for few days b4 the new unit come ...

thx you for choosing Dell  smile.gif

according to my brother he says a leakage at the entire bottom of the screen is considered quite severe. so i think i'll opt for a replacement.

as for the scratch, can't believe there are 5 scratches on the hand rest of a NEW unit. damn it, that is way too much to bear. shakehead.gif

I don't think that there is any model of 1520 that comes with Celeron M. Mine (My brother's) 1420 was ordered on 12 July. The spec are followed :-

1. INTEL CELERON M 540(1.86 Ghz, 1MB Cache, 533 Mhz FSB)
2. 1GB(2x512MB) 667 DDR2 RAM
3. Genuine Windows Vista Basic
4. 14.1" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) Display with TrueLife (LG PHILIPS LCD PANEL)
5. 80GB SATA Hard Disk (TOSHIBA)
6. 8X DVD Writer (OptiArc/NEC)
7. Intel Integrated GMA X3100
8. 6-Cell battery
9. Jet Black Colour and NO camera
10. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 wireless mini card
11. Targus Pulse II Nylon BackPack
12. 1 year limited warranty

COST : RM 2377.00 (free delivery)

I know 1520 doesn't come with Celeron M variant.

I was trying to configure a 1420 with Celeron M with other hardware almost similar to my 1520 - 1GB RAM, 128MB dedicated NVIDIA GPU, Wireless N module, Vista Home Premium,True Life LCD, DVD burner, Midnight Blue with built-in webcam, Nylon Backpack, 90W Primary power adaptor and etc.

Complete cover is a service not a hardware. I thought you can claim for rebate if the hardware price drops.

The difference between Inspiron and Vostro notebooks(just Vostro, not Vortro or Vortoro) is that the Vostro only offers in all black color, while the Inspiron models features 8 different color lid choices. To put it bluntly, the looks and design of these two lines of notebooks are the same, the difference is color.

One more thing is that, Vostro line have the option to not include any "bloatware" (tons of trial software that is installed when the computer came in).
