I just called n ordered through phone for the DELL 1520. My specs are followed:

1. INTEL C2D T5250 1.5Ghz (Will it be lose a lot compared to those T7xxx series ? )
2. 2GB DDR2 RAM 667Mhz
3. 160GB SATA Hard disk
4. DVD Burner
5. GeForce 8600M GT 256MB DDR2
5. White color with 2MP webcam
6. upgrade to Intel(R) 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-Card ( wat is the difference to the ABG card ? )
7. 3 year complete cover warranty (is it worth it??)
8. upgrade to 9-cell battery (is it last longer?)
9. Windows Vista Premium
Cost : RM 4068

Is it worth it? Can somebody answer my questions in the bracket?
Now quite worried whether my processor speed will slow down the overall speed as the memory n graphic card is considered to be ok already.

Yup, I phoned the sales rep at the afternoon and she said that 1520 can get faster if you choose white or black, other colour have to wait 2 more weeks. It is opposite of what stated in the website or paper. So, I just choose the white 1 cuz it looks so much like an Apple.

Yea, it costs too much to upgrade to T7100, so I just settle it with T5250. By the way, is my 1520 spec can play games like Test Drive UNLIMITED, GTR2, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Need For Speed series smoothly? What about my other laptop spec listed below...

Anyway, I also order another black 1420 model for my brother who is a light user of laptop. He just use the laptop to watch movie, surfing the net and some Microsoft Word.

I found that the processor that i chosen is very new. So dunno how it will perform. This is the spec :

1. Intel(R) Celeron(R) M 540 (1.86GHz/533 FSB/ 1M Cache) (Is it better than AMD X2 Turion? Can it perform smoothly in Vista?)
2. 1GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM
3. 14.1" Wide Screen XGA TFT Display (1280x800 res.)
4. 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
5. 8x DVD Writer
6. Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (is it capable of handling basic work?)
7. Microsoft Vista Basic
8. 1 year warranty+Free delivery

COST : RM 2287

Is it better than those low-end ACER Aspire 4310-300508 which is RM1799 cuz I already heard that many bad review of those low end ACER model.

The Acer spec is as below :

Intel Celeron M 520 Processor (1.6GHz)
Mobile Intel 943GML Express Chipset
80GB Hard Disk, 512MB DDR2 RAM
DVD-RW Double Layer Drive
14.1" Wide XGA CyrstalBrite Color LCD
Integrated 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
Integrated 10/100Mbps LAN, 56Kbps Modem
Integrated 5-in-1 Card Reader
Integrated Acer OrbiCam 310,000 pixel CMOS Camera
Built-in Multimedia Speaker and MIC
3x USB, 1x VGA port
Net Weight : 2.4kg
1 Year International Warranty

I also wonder what platform the 1420 celeron M540 is based on ? (is it 965 or santa rosa??) cuz its detail is not available in Intel website. This chipset is just launched 8th of July. Anybody ????

Hehe, somebody had answered my question like yours before.

"Wireless 4965AGN is next gen network card 802.16 or wimax. The real question you should ask is whether your router supports it or not and will you plan to have wimax. If your router does and you need the speed maybe you can consider it."

Yup, DELL gave me a Trek Thumbdrive Mini USB 2GB Memory Key with the purchase of one 1520 and one 1420 as a freebie. They said my 1420 will arrive tomorrow but i still din receive any call from the delivery courier.

For my 1520, I requested for the screen to be upgraded to 15.4 WXGA+ with truelife(1440x900). Then later the sales rep called me and said that the LCD will only arrive on 20 July so I just settled for the 15.4 WXGA
(1280x800) with truelife and the price drop by RM122.
Then today when I checked the product spec in the delivery status, it is stated that I did order 1 with WXGA+ LCD. Before that the delivery date is 18 july, but today I found that it is delayed to 23 of July. Will it possibly install the WXGA+ LCD to my laptop?? (Even though the price is not including the upgrade?)

Can anyone recommend a good driver download site for Windows XP Pro for the 1520 ?

I just try the hard way to convert back to XP but now I just need the sound driver which is SIGMATEL driver but each time I install it it just wont come out with the sound even though the installation is successful. And also the nvidia 8600GT driver. I've tried the Nvidia website driver but unsuccessful.

So I really appreciate to you all if you can help me to find out the XP driver. I have done it the whole day from the time I received it afternoon. Thank You very much........

I'm facing the problem with the sound driver with the XP. the sound driver for the 1520 model is SigmaTel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio (Rev:A03)

I've found quite a lot of driver but it all fails. It states "Device Object not present, restart the system and run the setup again". And other will finish off installation and state "Audio maintenance completed successfully", but still after restart, Still no sound.

SIGMATEL !!! How come the audio driver so difficult to configure?????

Thanx very much, kingmax. The audio driver is now solved.

So Now the last thing to configure is the graphic card driver.
I'm using XP and My GC is NVIDIA M 8600GT and I've tried to install the driver from nvidia website but failed.
I've downloaded those drivers from laptopvideo2go.com and they just failed to install. I've heard that 8600GT can only be installed at computer with Direct X10 which is Vista.

Then how come all those driver for the XP cant be used even though it is stated clearly that those drivers are meant for XP??

isn't Celeron M already an old tech proc same batch with Pentium M & Centrino? thought it has already been phased out. hmm.gif

This celeron M540 1.86Ghz is of the new platform, and just released at July. It is also using INTEL 965 chipset as well. No other notebook company is using this latest processor now as far as i observed.

As for my brother's 1420 which is also using this processor, there is no problem at all running Vista (but now I've formatted it and loaded it with XP). The spec is also quite good (given free memory upgrade to 1GB DDR2 RAM and Free delivery) and it comes with INTEL X3100 integrated video card. The performance I can say is that it is not slow(used for web browsing, word processing and some light game). Good recommendation, actually prefer the 1420 size compared to my 1520 which weighs far more than 1420.

Be careful if you choose the matte black colour, it sticks your finger grease very well and leaves a lot of grease (not fingerprint though) on the surface which is quite troublesome to clean of compared to my alpine white 1520 which have none of these problem at all.

I checked the site and the spec is very very basic and if I customized to meet my 1520 spec (excluding 2GB RAM and 256MB NVIDIA GPU), the price is touching RM 3k.

I don't think that there is any model of 1520 that comes with Celeron M. Mine (My brother's) 1420 was ordered on 12 July. The spec are followed :-

1. INTEL CELERON M 540(1.86 Ghz, 1MB Cache, 533 Mhz FSB)
2. 1GB(2x512MB) 667 DDR2 RAM
3. Genuine Windows Vista Basic
4. 14.1" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) Display with TrueLife (LG PHILIPS LCD PANEL)
5. 80GB SATA Hard Disk (TOSHIBA)
6. 8X DVD Writer (OptiArc/NEC)
7. Intel Integrated GMA X3100
8. 6-Cell battery
9. Jet Black Colour and NO camera
10. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 wireless mini card
11. Targus Pulse II Nylon BackPack
12. 1 year limited warranty

COST : RM 2377.00 (free delivery)
