It's at the front bottom. At 1520/1720 you can see clearly at the bottom picture 1 and 4 .Sorry to say it's a very poor design on thier speaker ,surely the sound output will be block a bit.
Some updates , there will not be 8600M GT avaliable. Only GMA X3100, nVidia 8400M and the nVidia 8600M GS avaliable.

The thing that I wasn't sure are the processor they offer

Intel Core 2 Duo
2.2 GHz, 800 MHz, 4M L2 Cache (T7500)
2.0 GHz, 800 MHz, 4M L2 Cache (T7300)
1.8 GHz, 800 MHz, 2M L2 Cache (T7100)
1.66 GHz, 667 MHz, 2M L2 Cache (T5450)
1.5 GHz, 667 MHz, 2M L2 Cache (T5250)

If those 2 were offer... I don't think it cosider santa rosa...

I wonder Dell would consider adding a 8700M GT into the 1720, or perhaps an 8800M when it comes out?

And it appears Dell has decided to kick DVI out of the 1720, sad thing to note, as the 1720 is suppose to be a multimedia laptop, now how can I connect it to a big flat screen without the DVI, VGA doesn't seem to cut it these days..

still consider santa rosa as it still on 965 motherboard. But a cheap scale just no 800 fsb. But this is really a turn off if offer 1.5 or 1.66 not much processing power, if this offer at 2k then i would not mind over 2.5k isk... not worth it. At this moment the configuration surely will not differ from current core2duo, initial configuration surely no robson, no draft N, but include x3100. so i don't believe the price to be higher than current price.

Current 6400 is around 2.9kg, that is normal for 15"

Other manufactures have their 15.4" notebook lighter than Dell's. Maybe Dell doesn't want to spend too much in keeping the components smaller.

Acer gemstone is not light also 15.4". This type of laptop is due to cases material, most probably got stone inside so won't easily get blown by typhoon. I might suggest it due to heatsink.

I might add the size is fix at 15", my opinion no need to reduce the component even if the whole motherboard is at a size of peanut it can still be 3kg. I guess they should start hiring Nasa to build a feather weight laptop.
