Hi sifu, is it normal for fl city to have to close front bonet very hard? i have to open up for quite high position only can fully closed it. heart pain when hear to sound

QUOTE(SMH @ Mar 26 2019, 10:15 PM)
tumpang this question too. i scared to press till kemek, so have to lift up 1.5 feet high and drop to close it. quite a loud bang...

many years back tried to press on kancil bonnet to close it but end up it became kemek tongue.gif was shocked by the freakin milo tin quality and subsequently observed pomen practice drop to close method all the time and i then understand why they do that. haha
*
Lol, I tried closing the bonnet of a BRV in the Honda showroom, it wouldn't close at first drop. Tried again, this time higher and everyone looked at my direction because it was that loud tongue.gif
I do it in two ways:
1. Hold the bonnet at < 1 foot high and close it with a slight downward force

or,

2. Let it down gently until the first click, and push with both hands to fully lock it. I'd push closer at the edge of the bonnet, near the centre where the lock is located, because that is where it is strongest IMO. I have not dented any bonnet by closing it this way. You need to know where to push.

I got a stupid question but cant help thinking about it.

Do you think Osram Night Breaker Laser Next Generation H11 halogen bulb (for low beam) is much brighter than non-v spec stock head lamp halogen bulb?

take into consideration of my car is just 2 mths old...will this Osram NBL beats stock bulb of my car?
*
I used to have Osram Nighbreaker (non Laser) on my previous ride. Yeah, not a direct comparison, I know. It was much brighter than the stock halogen bulbs, because I went "wah" when I first installed them. However, it is no where as bright as my V spec's LED lamps because I went "wah" when I first drove my V spec at night biggrin.gif

When it rains however, the halogens win.

Rain X on windscreen, plus a pair of PIAA wipers do wonders.

QUOTE(SMH @ Mar 27 2019, 12:21 AM)

the external dirty air, say exhaust fume from vehicle in front, if they somehow creeps inside cabin of our car, its not due to faulty cabin filter isnt it?

the outside air creeps in somehow and become more obvious when car ages...is it due to aged rubber lining of doors?
*
The outside air comes comes from the area below your wipers. There is a flap behind our glove compartment that allows you to select recirculation or fresh air. In recirculation mode, the flap moves to allow air from within car cabin to go to the suction of aircon blower, and at the same time, it closes the inlet from outside air. Think of it as an "on/or gate".
This flap can fail or loosen over time.

2nd possibility.
If you smell your own exhaust fume, chances are the boot exhaust flaps (i can't remember the proper term) are defective. What are these? They are like Venetian blinds located at boot area to vent off pressure especially when you close your boot. Think of them as a "one-way valve" - only allow air to move in one direction. The flappers may fail in open position, allowing exhaust fumes to enter.

Found this halogen bulb comparison chart that surprise me, newer Night Breaker Laser Next Generation is not as good as the older Night Breaker Unlimited
And the NBU is much cheaper than the newer Laser Next Gen. Surprise surprise...
*
Yes, mine was NBU. Really pleased with the light output.

QUOTE(SMH @ Mar 27 2019, 01:15 AM)
In my previous cars, I asked aircond pomen to permanently closed/locked it when servicing aircond, since i dont use external circulation mode. But it just dont seems to completely block external air coming in (not my own exhaust fume, but the exhaust fume from cars in front of me). Still can smell diesel fume from lorry/pickup in front.... This is hardly noticeable when car is new.

The aircond pomen told me by default got other holes/places apart from the aircond flap, thats how water can seeps inside car easily when submerged in water .... but its not logical as this dont happen when car is new if the hole is there since day 1.
I wonder will this happen when City aged...
*
I sort of agree with your pomen. We have lots of things running from inside the cabin to the engine compartment: aircon pipings, electrical cables, and even the steering assembly goes from the footwell to outside the car (else, how to steer the wheels?). The holes where these things go through are sealed, probably with rubber grommet or heat resistant sealants. These can fail or harden over time. And if you ever fix after market sound system, you can't be sure the holes from which the chaps run the cables to your battery leads are properly sealed.

Even the door weather strips age and harden, creating poorer sealing.

Just my RM0.02.

QUOTE(jimmy lai @ Mar 27 2019, 07:54 AM)
any reason why manufacture want to make it so difficult to close the bonnet? my previous car kancil, exora, axia all dont hv to close for so hard force.
*
I really don't know. My first thought is safety reasons, but I've tried some safer Contis and they don't need that much force to lock. And Conti car bonnets usually close with a more solid thud, so perhaps their weight makes it easier to close... not sure.

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Mar 27 2019, 10:24 AM)
Rain X eh? I heard good and bad reviews about it and the bad ones are really quite bad that it made me hesitant to try it. I got try some other product on my previous car and it made my windscreen cloudy, making vision out that glass even worse.
*
I was never a fan of it due to bad experience. However, my City developed bad windscreen streaks not long after I got the car. Nothing could improve it, so I bought a pair of PIAA silicone wipers to try - streaking persisted! Last resort: Rain x and it worked.

where and how much did you buy the PIAA silicone wiper?

I bought from Lazada, iirc around RM120. A cheaper alternative would be getting the refill (6mm for the 14" and 8mm, iirc, for the 26"). The PIAA refills should fit because the set I bought have the exact dimensions.

I see. I don't have the luxury of covered carpark neither at work or at home (sometimes) so this frequency to reapply would probably be more often for my case. Hahaha! Not really have the time to spend on properly doing it. I heard this may be one of the cause of problems faced by users.
*
You can buy Rain x windscreen wash to add to the reservoir.
And I won't apply it if I were using non-silicone wipers because of juddering.

Anyone using sports pedal? Can recommend those that no need drill holes and screw in type one. Just plug and play.
Any good OBD2 to recommend as well? That doesnt mess up with the car system.
*
I'm also looking for a sports brake pedal, something that has bigger "step" area. I like to brake with my left foot.

Your question on OBD2 is too generic. What type of OBD2 device are you referring to?

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Mar 28 2019, 06:48 PM)
I can't remember when was the last time i used the wiper water. Hahaha!

But thanks for the tip! I might try traditional application method if the reapply is not too frequent. Oh, but I ady got myself a pair of Michelin rubber wipers (I had a good deal for them last Dec), so I guess Rain X is out then. Hahaha!
*
I try to use the windscreen wiper wash as often as I can, reasons being I don't want the nozzles to plug and I try not to have too much dirt build-up on the windscreen and wipers - any activation of the wipers when the windscreen is not wet enough might cause fine scratches.

PS. Left foot braking?  sweat.gif  Not even Tofu Takumi is that daring. Haha!
*
Useful when I'm caught in a jam and my right foot/calf starts protesting. Our accelerator pedal has rather high angle, and the brake pedal is slightly higher than accelerator pedal, so it can be rather tiring - especially after completing a 5km hill jog.
It's like using our non-dominant hand when operating the computer mouse - feels awkward at first but you get the hang of it eventually. But if you have time constraints or working on a project that requires extensive mouse usage, you are better off using dominant hand.
Hence, the left foot braking is only used sparingly under safer conditions, like when coasting to red lights, or keeping the car stationary in a jam. Driving on highways certainly don't count as safer conditions.

This is not doable now as existing pedal size is too small - no space for right foot to intervene in an emergency.

Mine is close to your size but I kept hitting the secondary lock barrel especially when wearing running shoes and my trusted Ah Pek sandals.

Most likely my brake pedal neutral position is higher.

Is your brake pedal stepping surface higher or same height as the accelerator when both are at neutral positions? As in when you shift your right foot from accelerator pedal, do you have to lift your foot a bit to move to the brake pedal? I do, else the sole of my shoe under my big toe section will touch the right side of the brake pedal.

Looks nice. My main problem with coil mat is it doesn't stay in place, especially the driver's side.

Does it have rubber or chemical smell?

coil mat can stitch velcro strap at its edge, it will then hold its position nicely. Sh@rty5's father did a set of thick coil mat with velcro strap + kick plate for me ard 2012 and it lasted till today...of course the driver side wear off a fair bit la...but its thick and comfy to step on, just that it also superb in collecting dirt/dust/ all kind of things in it and make me sweat for cleaning all of them.

Why not put the coil mat on top of it?

My left leg used to full depress on clutch from driving manual car. Sometimes half press in first gear when the car in front stop on slope, eg getting out of basement parking. Find it hard to adjust the pressure if I were to brake with left leg. Wonder how you get used to apply slight brake with left leg.
*
Just requires practising. Just as how I trained myself to use mouse with left hand when I suffered from right wrist pain.

QUOTE(dickybird @ Mar 29 2019, 04:26 PM)
Practice practice practice.
Actually I'm surprised that you don't have a finer modulation of your left foot since using the clutch will require you to find the bite point during launch unless you're saying you just dump the clutch when you shift gears or at launch?
*
The difference between clutch pedal and brake pedal is very big. For clutch, you need to modulate when releasing. For brake, you modulate when stepping. Night and day.

Err. Its not a design error if you forget to close it and thus hit it. I put my sunglasses there and nearly everyday since I got the car, I have been using it and haven't yet hit the drawer.

QUOTE(nordingh @ Mar 31 2019, 02:32 AM)
More to human error. If you forgot to close it, that's owner error. I do the same mistake too.  laugh.gif
*
Just because you it does not affect you yet doesn't mean there is no design error.
The fact that drivers have knocked their knees on the open cover means there is design error and it only proves people can forget to close it.
When you engineer something, you need to factor in the risk to users' forgetfulness. They could have placed it higher or more recessed so that even if it is left open, it won't get in the way, or could have easily made the edge more "knee friendly".

Why do you think you can't start the engine of automatic transmission cars when they are not in N or P? Surely ppl know they should not start in D or R?

Why do power windows have anti-pinch feature? Surely ppl know better than to put their fingers in the line of fire?

Why do you think we have door-ajar buzzer? Surely ppl know better than to drive with doors not closed properly?

Low fuel warning - dang, who drives a car and don't refuel?
Light-on buzzer - who on earth forgets to switch off lights when leaving his car?

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Mar 31 2019, 11:48 AM)
You're talking about poka yoke. Those you mentioned are safety critical and which they designed it to be intrusive which you can't ignore, much like seat belt reminder chimes. Many owners find them annoying and thus use those seat belt fake clips.
You said it yourself: seat belt reminders. Why not call it seatbelt enforces because apparently, nobody is supposed to forget anything when it comes to cars. You will never forget to wear your seat belt, would you? Those who don't wear seat belts must be doing it on purpose, right?

Drawers and such are user interaction items which are designed to be stored hidden but always within easy reach of the users. If your hands can reach for it, definitely your legs can inadvertently "interact" with it.
Your hand can easily reach the aircon vent adjuster. Does it mean your legs can inadvertently interact with it?

Sure it can be designed "better" to make sure only your hands can touch it but this would be highly utilitarian. Everything would have been placed up and in front of you and the design would look dreadfully boring. If you ever seen a light aircraft dashboard, you will know what I mean, everything is within eyesight and ease of pilot reach but nothing else.
Does it have to be in a position to let your knee bump into it if you don't close it, whether by choice or due to forgetfulness?
Is City the only car with coin/card storage? You might not have driven cars that don't have this kind of trap, so you think it's acceptable but hey, there are other cars with such utility and they don't threaten to break your knee cap if you leave the cover open.

Its difficult for designers to consider human mistakes in everything because human mistakes vary so much.
Is it difficult to imagine users might leave the cover open, just like they might leave their car doors ajar? This is basic design concept - to cater for the most common what-if's. So, it's an engineering defect.

If they designed a drawer that chimes after 2 seconds (because some might hit it after 3), then are you going to use tape to cover the sensor and bypass it?
Do you bypass your seat-belt reminder?

Would such scenario help to prevent your forgetfulness when the sensor no longer functions?
Will you continue driving with no intention to have your car checked if the VSA and ABS no longer function?

If they can design a self closing drawer to prevent the leg from hitting it, then some will complain of hands and finger got caught when it closes. What then? Does all the drawers need to have anti-pinch function? How much would you be willing to pay for cars with such self-closing & anti-pinch features then?
Why would they design a self-closing drawer if they can't even design a proper manual closing drawer that does not harm drivers?

Also take note, City is sold in Japan so it is designed with that market in mind. If they think the average Japanese will have problems with it, they wouldn't put these features into the final car.
How do you know the Japanese people have not had problem with the open cover?

*
