A1000 - cheap price yet good enough quality, speed similar to SATA in real world
SX8200 - best performance/price ratio - SM2262 controller

Edit: wow SX8200 is becoming cheaper...you can get A1000 for cheaper price
Edit 2: get SX8200 Pro if can, updated SM2262EN controller

2. Usage : Home usage. processing documents, basic photo editing process, video editing but not for gaming
3. Requirements: 13-15' screen, 8gb RAM preferablely, CD/DVD-ROM.

basically that's all.
Any recommendation?

Hello!

I'm currently looking for a new work laptop to replace my current one. Can anyone give some feedback on the New Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 (5482)?
The spec I'm planning to get is:
https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/laptops-and...w516955019myw10

user posted image

802.11ac 2x2 WIFI
Ports:
1 x HDMI 1.4b
1 x Wedge-shaped lock slot
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C™ (DP/PowerDelivery)
1 x USB 2.0
2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1
1 x Power
1 x SD card
1 x Universal audio jack

What is your take on this laptop? Are there any laptops that sifus would recommend? biggrin.gif

What I'm looking for in the laptop and usages would be
1. Max budget 5k
2. 512 GB SSD. More would be better.
3. 16 GB RAM with dedicated Graphics Card for 3D software such as Sketchup and FDS software
4. Multitasking (Mainly PDFs, Office, powerpoint presentation, Team Viewer and ACAD files)
5. Preferably have tablet mode
6. Preferably 14 inch
7. Able to detect 5GHZ wifi or better.
8. Slim and light weight cause I'll be carrying it with me to meetings frequently. My current laptop is over 2 kg and just over 1" thick so preferable below 2kg
9. Long lasting battery > 6 hours
10. Preferably with USB C Power Delivery [I don't like to carry the bulky power brick all the time sweat.gif ]

Thanks!

You have a lot of requirements so it will be very tricky to choose a laptop for you. Inspiron 5482 isn't a great choice
Do you mind 15 inch?

Hi Sifus. Planning to get a new laptop.

Budget: Based on the build I'm showing below. Cheaper is definitely better but I don't mind spending more for quality. Not sure if price has changed but I'm estimating 3-5k

Usage: Quite heavy on video editing. Also photo editing and casual gaming.

Requirement:
- CPU: At least i-7 8750H
- GPU: GTX1050 TI
- RAM: 16gb
- Display: IPS panel, at least 15 inches
- Storage: SSD for boot, HDD for storage
- OS: No OS if possible. Can buy my own and save a bit.

I'm currently looking at the Illegear Raven mainly because I can choose the specs that I want, but I am open to other brands which can provide these specs with a good deal.

Thanks in advance sifus! notworthy.gif

Put aside brand and specs, you should look at build quality and cooling when choosing gaming/performance laptop

Any preference on weight and battery life? Fine with low sRGB display?

Hi Sifus, looking for a laptop recommendation

1. Budget : 3k or less if can

2. Usage :
Work - multiple browsers open at once (20+ on Firefox). CCTV monitoring app open at all time in the background. Occasional video browsing. Don't really intend to game.

3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
Display: 14 or 15" FHD
Battery: not important. At one spot 99% of the time
Weight: Not important. Same reason as above
Keyboard: Not important, will be using plug ins
Need a finger print scanner for security if can
Need at least 3 USB ports (don't need 3.1 also nvm)
HDD: 128-256GB SSD
RAM: At least 8gb I guess?

Any suggestions? Budget feasible?

Lenovo Yoga 530/520 (i5-8250U) - only 1 RAM slot
HP Pavilion x360 14 cd0036tx - small battery

Upgrade RAM/storage by your own if not enough

There aren't many 2 in 1 with dGPU. Is 2 in 1 a must?

If you want good display and light weight, Acer Spin 5 13
Acer Swift 3 SF314-54/SF314-55 and Lenovo Ideapad 320s/330s 14 also good, but with low sRGB IPS

Suggest using external DVD drive for better build quality, larger battery and possibly better cooling

Hi.

Definitely cooling is a must because lots of video rendering and partial gaming. Therefore I don't mind it being bulky or heavy.

Weight and battery life is not an issue. Don't mind it being bulky/heavy and will need to always plug in power during editing/gaming.

A high sRGB display is always good. Might invest in a good monitor in the future tho.

Thanks.
