Around RM2.5k, lightweight and come with NVMe M.2 slot. (for hdd upgrading to NVME card later)
Just want to have faster boot only and use it for office work.

THank ZM fong.  smile.gif

Yes normal SSD SATA speeds are damn good already , windows loads instantly , apps loads instantly

You may not need the insane speed unless you are doing heavy workloads or just a serious gamer that wants fast fast fast

Pay a same price to get fast fast speed lol

Cough up more for NVME PCIe

zm fong i forgot which acer predator series that need to be avoided? helios 300? 🤔 what was the reason again.. i forgot.. lol...

Build quality , but to be honest - if it's cheap just grab it and go for it. It's like buying a car , people may complain tons but if you like it - go for it....personally i find the helios 300 affordable for people looking at entry level gaming laptop.

then im correct.. 500 at least better than 300..
nod.gif true...  helios 300 is good enough.. apart from uncomfortable heat (maybe due to cooling) other is fine
*
It's fine , again budget gaming laptop. ZM Fong has his views , mine is more like if it's going to be on a desk and you are connecting to a monitor and external keyboard. It's pretty fine

My brother own one Acer Aspire E14 2017 model. My company also providing me with Acer Aspire E 14. It's give good performance, however I'm trying other model also.
Preferred weight is less than 2kg. Battery life min 4 hours. Display size 14" would be a good, usually I hook up to monitor. I don't mind low sRGB. RAM min 8GB since my work require a lot of RAM and CPU usage.
*
Look at Thinkpad series anyway , if you want something that can last pretty long and you can upgrade.....RM 3123...

i5 , 8GB of RAM , you can replace the RAM later , these aren't soldered. Or you can opt for one 8GB stick and buy another one to upgrade it....It's 14" at 1080p

Hey guys, help me find the best value laptop for these requirements.

Budget: 3-4K
Usage: Normal usage at home, maybe light gaming
Requirements: 13-14 inch, lightweight, 8Gb RAM, 256GB SSD, MX150 (optional)

Currently looking at these, but open to suggestions.

1. Huawei Matebook D
2. Acer Swift 5
3. Asus UX331
4. Lenovo Ideapad 330s
*
Moment you mention light gaming , get one with MX150 - at least you can play games...

Yep MX150 can pack the punch , go youtube videos and take a look at it

You can play AAA games at 720p at medium/low settings. For games like Sims i think you can crank the graphics higher and can enjoy it.....It does gaming way better vs UHD 620

Yup, that time I bought for less than RM3k, and can run most modern games in medium high settings.  rclxms.gif
Seems like many people are recommending Illegear, after some quick study, seems like it is a local company that sells custom-built laptops, their reputation very good?
Also, their service center is in KL, but I live in Penang, so might be hard if I need to service the laptop.  sweat.gif
*
They have presence in Lowyat.net , they basically buy barebone laptops , assemble it

It's cheap and powerful for your gaming needs. Of course it has some downsides but for the price you are getting pretty good quality.

Just opt for the next day delivery/on-site service - so at least someone will collect and send your laptop !

Hi, I'm looking a for a laptop for my sister who is apparently working in a company which doesnt provide an office laptop for her. The given given budget is only RM2K and given that I am active in the PC scene I know that is not enough for what she needs to be working on.Shes a graphic designer and she is working with Adobe, Dimensions, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop and other stuffs that typical graphic designer needs. Is there any suitable laptop within that budget that fits my sister's work? Any suggestions are appreciated.
*
2K is pretty bad if she's going to get one for her own personal laptop. I am not sure which sort of company doesnt' provide a laptop for graphics design at all

She already has a personal Mac, but she prefer an office laptop cause she's doean't want any unnecessary work files stored into her personal Mac. As for her budget, the boss is stingy of spending any money, I tried to insist her to increase the budget for her office laptop. But as of now, 2k is what we're working with. She might increase up to 3 to 4k.
*
Slightly off-topic , so she buys the laptop and she uses it.

Who owns the intellectual property ? the company or her ? I think you better discuss with her with her amazing company to bring this up. If I were her , I would have just brought my personal computer and kept all the assets , because it's my property

1. Budget : max rm2000
2. Usage : for my sister who just finished spm, basically for normal usage, online streaming, youtubing, office works, not a gamer.
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : 13", <2kg, 4gb ram (upgradeable to 8gb), 500gb i think is sufficient, processor and graphic card doesnt really matter i think..

If lets say i buy the 4gb ram and add another 4gb, will it void warranty?

You can get one of the JOI book , the touch screen + windows active pen is good. Sometimes you just wanna be in table mode and do basic stuff.....

Which has the longest battery life?

I think ZM Fong can help out on this one.

My take is that if you neeed longer time to be on the go , consider getting a laptop that uses USB Type C for charging or offers PD over USB-C. So you can buy a powerbank that has PD support and plug it in so you get longer working hours on the laptop

My Lenovo X1 can be charged by USB-C powerbank 45W (but it needs to be off) , however my work's X280 can be easily charged that way and get it powered on the go smile.gif

1. Budget : max 4k

2. Usage  :
- Work + Casual Gaming
- MS Office
- Website
- Streaming
- Work as an Engineer. Lots of AutoCAD viewing, Emails, Typing
- Casual Gamer (Cities Skylines)

3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- 13-15inch Display
- Battery life is not a factor
- Weight prefarably not more than 2kg (move around alot)
- Prefer to have a nice design (alumininium)
- Good Keyboard for typing (a MBP user before)
- Prefer i5 and GTX1060 but AMD equivalent is ok for me too.

Brands (Models) in mind: Lenovo (Y Series), HP (Gaming, Envy), Illegear (Onyx Lite). Can suggest others too.

Thank you guys.

Seller can PM me too.
*
If you are typing a lot you need to get a good keyboard. So do you plan to type a lot or game a lot , that's the question

You may consider Lenovo T480s also with MX150/MX250 or their T490s . The keyboards are legendary in it. Onyx does give you mechanical keyboard however it's not the sort of keyboard you want for typing , e-mail and lots of other things. I just wanna give you the heads up

I would be willing to increase the budget if the upgrade worth the cost. What you reckon? Do I need that much firepower or MX150 is good enough?
I would type alot of emails and papers. Games are more for casual but it would be good to have solid one.

Checked out T480, seem to fit my budget. Nice design too. I'm quite noob in this but is MX150 is good enough? i5 or i3?
*
MX150 can get you to play games but you gonna lower down the settings to 720p or something like that. Now here is the fun part of T480, it has a Thunderbolt 3 Port (not all the laptops have it at that price rnage)
which means you can buy a eGPU casing + any GPU out there and use it.

So hook it up to an external monitor (or internal - if you use internal lcd , it will take some fps hit) and you could start gaming seriously

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll32K3yo6Pg - You can take a look at what kind of expectation that you can get out of the MX150

I configured an i5 8250U + MX150 + 256GB SSD + 8GB of RAM + 3 year on-site next business day warranty - it's RM 4255

Now you need more battery ? No problem , you can plug in an external battery and that would last you pretty long.....

Personally I would get a reliable workhorse laptop

Also if you do a lo of CAD works the MX150 is a weak but viewing should be okay , again if you really need the power , there is an eGPU (so you can bring it home and play games)

How much would eGPU would cost usually?
At the moment, just city simulation games like Cities Skylines just to fill up my time between flights.
*
eGPU casing cost about RM 1400 + any GPU = so you can put in a 1060 or 1080 or even a 2060 . It takes in desktop GPU (look at the power requirement).
It's portable

Since you travel a lot and want a durable laptop , go for Thinkpad. Plus the MX150 can handle the game (not at the highest setting , super graphics) but you can get it done pretty well. Need more battery power ? you can always buy an external battery

Need you guys expertise on buying a new laptop for me.

1. Budget : Around RM7k - RM10k (If there is a good laptop with lower price is more than welcomed)

2. Usage : - MS Office
                - Software Programming (C, C++, Java, Python, etc.)
                - Messing with most kind of programs that lecturers would use at Diploma in IT to Degree in Computer Science level
                - Video streaming (Netflix, Twitch, Youtube, etc.)
                - Multitasking
                - Gaming (1080p@60fps+ on the highest setting)

3. Requirements : - 15 - 17 inch Display (1080p, IPS, 144hz, better color grading for watching movies and TV shows) (Is the current gen 17 inch gaming laptop
screen big? I've heard that they able to fit it in
the form of 15 inch form factor)
                          - 3 - 4 hrs of just using it for browsing internet and watching Youtube videos
                          - 2 - 3 kg
                          - If possible, don't want have gamerly looks
                          - Good travel distance for the keyboard (don't want to be too mushy)
                          - Have good rigidity to it (less flex)
                          - Minimum RTX 2070 Max-P (Don't mind the max-q ver. if the performance diff. between it with max-p ver. is not that much)
Thank you for helping and have a good day.
*
Wow it looks like you are one lucky university student. You have to give up on one of it.

IMHO look at this if you are serious about a good machine. Now keep in mind that , the keyboard in it is not the best one to type especially if you are talking about programming and writing long code/document etc

But it has the normal RTX 2070 and under 3kg ...you can't get away with the gamerly look. Also build quality is okayish...

Hi, can anyone recommend a laptop for me.

a) budget : below rm3000

b) usage : for studies in uni (mainly ms office, web browsing and probably occasional movie watching), not for gaming

c) no specific requirements, just a laptop with best value for money and fullfills my usage. however, i tend to favour more towards dell products as i am looking for reliability and my studies will be overseas : don't think i can afford any repair works at least for the next 3-4 yrs

Thank you for helping
*
I went with Thinkpad anyway for my study laptop (which is the one that i am using right now). One of the main reason is because of the International warranty and the build quality of Thinkpad.

Now the issue is on the lower end of the range , the warranty costs a bomb. To be honest , you shouldn't worry much as a student , as during my undergraduate time my MacBook Pro lasted pretty damn well for the usage.

Alternatively you may want to look for business laptops as probably they are built to slightly last longer and you can easily find replacement parts (should there be an issue) instead of a consumer grade laptop. Yes it looks boring and all

But the choice is yours..

I looked around and found a similar spec from HP Envy 13-ah1027tx (i5-8th/8GB/360GB/MX150) price is abit cheaper and can go for EPP too. How's the build quality for HP and their keyboard?

https://h20386.www2.hp.com/MalaysiaStore/Me...5HZ13PA#reviews

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/hp-envy-...gAaAraAEALw_wcB

Anyone recommend?

Thank you

Looks like soldered RAM , unless you are okay with it - it's fine

HP build quality is good , keyboard is decent , not as legendary as thinkpad - but it's way better compared to a lot of other keyboards . the 2 year on-site warranty is a deal

I would opt for it , as you can get it with EPP smile.gif

Hi Guys, I looked around and found Thinkpad E490 - RM 3889 with the specs as below and matched my budget. What do you think?

Is Radeon RX 550X 2GB ok for normal setting games?
Is the 1 year warranty good enough? Does Thinkpad tends to have issues after 1 year?
I scout for reviews around but not many because they just launch the E490, but it seems they have a cooling issues with last year's E480 (Radeon RX550)

Would like to know also in general, what are the differences between brands? Most of the time i notice the specs are almost identical yet the price can be few hundred RM difference. Any tips? E.g. build quality...? Overheating issues...?

Personally I would prefer a laptop with TB3 port - in case in the future you can buy external GPU and upgrade it with more power !
