Fhd bright enough?
I think just get i7....
Just throw ice on top the keyboard to lower down the heat since the keyboard is spill proof...
*
FHD is okay la but if you really doing photoshop and stuff sRGB is important - so opt for the 4K screen due to 100% Adobe Colour

For me , I don't need that

currently office notebook using ROG GL552vw...
and lately the gigabit port become 100mbps..
and also very lag....
plus dGpu 960m not useable as it always BSOD no matter what driver i use.....
so currently only use iGPU ...
i also want 100% sRGB but 4k need add almost 1.5k for me is out of budget...
even i get 100% sRGB also no use as my office printer long time no calibrate already....
*
consumer laptops - this is why i decided to jump to business laptop and a durable one - although thinkpad are now starting to becoming like apple...macbooks

Business laptop can tahan...anyway look for T480 with MX150..then pimp display for the sRGB

Else get one of those gaming laptops with 100% sRGB la...illgear or something...

oh ok. how about, let say i want the kid to be able to use the laptop from their first sem up until doing their final year project? will the price range for such case be lower?
*
RM 2500 eh ? Just go for consumer laptops..normally consumer laptops should be okay la

Can it tahan - all it depends , probably would last for 3 years ...

Anyway , since that guy is going to game , i would get an AMD laptop (should be okay la for the uni work , you don't need an i7 to crunch the numbers anyway). At the back of all uni students , they just want to play DOTA , MOBA games with a decent frame rate

Thinkpad E585 - sure it looks boring like heck , but with the current promo of RM 1 upgrade to 8GB of RAM + 128GB SSD + 1TB hard disk + Ryzen 5 = RM 2502 , probably if you ask for student discount you can get it lower...

Hello, need recommendation on laptop.

1. Budget: RM 2,000
2. Usage: Web browsing, web programming
3. Requirements: Lightweight, long battery life, 14" at least,

Is there anywhere to find laptop preinstalled with Fedora in malaysia?
*
Two options

1. Buy a refurb thinkpad (they cost like < RM 1k , and then the extra money - buy it to upgrade RAM , SSD and few others. It would be worth while and also a new battery/extended battery)

2. Buy a E485 - I am not too sure about linux support (thinkpads have good linux support with intel - but not too sure with amd)

Btw for long battery life and 2K ...it's pretty hard....

Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a 3k-ish gaming laptop and I've been looking at the Dell G3, acer nitro 5, asus tuf fx504, msi gl63 and lenovo legion y530.

Can anyone with relevant info help me with this? The heat level, performance etc. I only play FIFA and PES, and weight is also within my considerations as I'll be taking it to work - not for gaming of course! ;-)

Thanks everyone!
*
Y530 as it looks like less of a gaming laptop instead

FIFA/PES , you can fire up one of the MX150 ultrabooks , it can handle those games pretty well...if those are the only games that you play

Oh, didn't know that. The minimum requirements for FIFA 19 said that I should use a gtx graphic card. Can you suggest me one good model with MX150? Thanks.
*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3d4XLgndAU - look at the performance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyxHFBvNuaU

MX150 - got a few la..me i prefer a business laptop la

ThinkPad L480 with 3 year warranty around RM 3150 , it uses AMD card which is about the same as MX150

I am assuming your primary job is good working laptop la...however if you are really into gaming , these laptops aren't for you....i am assuming you are more into work and play games like FIFA

Any review for thinkpad t490/t590...
From spec got ips fhd low power, 4k iOS with 100% AdobeRgb....
But when customise, all option missing...only base spec to choose...
*
T490 is bad series...you can't even upgrade the ram...pretty much its like a cheap macbook

QUOTE(moiskyrie @ Mar 19 2019, 09:06 PM)
Want t480 but only can choose 2.5 ssd or pcie at one time...can't both ....
Also where to find 2242 pcie ssd....
Online only can find China brand which I not dare to use...
*
T480 - you can have 2 HDD - one is your 2.5" + 2242 slot

2242 slot you can use the WAN slot and it works. Can refer to Reddit

If you are serious about thinkpad , head over to reddit - you can get better recommendations

The price for the Lenovo E485 and HP Pavilion 15 are just a gap of 300, which the E485 i configured is RM2.36k and the HP Pavilion 15 is RM2667. Since the pricing is not too far and I get the MX150 and both have comparatively same battery life, I might just proceed with the Pavilion 15 which I just need to add a little for another stick to RAM.
*
You are trading build quality. I have never been a fan of HP Pavilion series anyway .....build quality is questionable

What's with the Ryzen , what sort of application are you going to run for your uni ? I'm super curious

I do Android development and if it's Ryzen then I have to stick with the non accelerated ARM emulator because Hyper-V on AMD is only supported on Windows 10 Pro and I honestly can't afford upgrading to Windows 10 Pro. I haven't been through ThinkPads so I'm not sure but any other laptops that are under 3k have similar build quality imo. Change me on that if anything has changed for the Ryzen side.
*
You can get Windows 10 Pro upgrae keys for free. Psst - normally your educational provider has access to MSDNAA , you can then get a Windows 10 Pro key for free (since you are doing IT). Most uni have MSDNAA...poof Windows 10 Pro

That's how I upgraed my Lenovo - used back my old key.

hi guys,
i played around with lenovo customisation on t480/y530, im just not sure what kind config is the best, i just wanted to have it optimal setup, when i played around with the best config i can think off, seems the price almost the same and i plan to purchase it with student discount if i manage to get one

this is work/media consumption laptop primarily but with the same price point why not y530 in corner of my mind LOL..

mind share your input ?
*
Like ZM said - T480 is business laptop , Y530 is a gmaing laptop

If media/gaming is higher to you , Y530. If you think that you need a solid laptop that allows you to upgrade , lasts long , replace parts - opt for T480

1. Budget : +-3k
2. Usage : Microsoft office, lots of chrome tabs, pdfs, no games.
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : 13-14", long battery life(min 6 hours), and slim.
4. Brands I'm looking into: Huawei Matebook D, Asus zenbook

Are the XPS 13 / inspiron 13 really worth the money?
How low a budget i can go while still having a decent laptop?
*
Lots of typing eh ? Thinkpad keyboard for the win , I am not sure about the rest

Take that instead , Joi is a malaysian brand - China OEM ....You get SSD - 256 , a touch screen + stylus...pretty much you can do the tasks

Honestly your budget is quite low for a good, new laptop

Can consider Ideapad 320s-14IKBR, on sale in Shopee now under 2k. RAM+SSD upgrades are recommended

Or check out my regular laptop list under 4GB RAM section, can also go for Chinese stuffs like Chuwi if you are OK with them
*
Personally I find Chuwi laptops are okay , for the price you pay - you get pretty good specs

It's marketed as Malaysia as JOI..you can just search - if you want local support/brand presence

You pay slightly more but then you know they have shops here la and can assist you with it

Tell your parents , buying online or customizing it means you get fresh new stocks , vs something that is there for couple of months in the warehouse...

I can't find Ideapad 320s-14IKB in their website.

Is it this one:
https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...KB/p/81F400G1MJ
*
Few options

Thinkpad L480 - for RM 2650 - you can get a Full HD IPS Panel + 8GB RAM (add 1 GB) + 3 year warranty next (add RM 1) + SSD . But it's an i3 , but then you get some durable laptop vs their ideapad series

Their ideapad 330s which is newer one , for RM 2650 you get an Core i5 , 4GB RAM (soldered tho) + SSD

I'll look up for the benchmark for i3 vs i5 later. But I hope with SSD and 8GB RAM, things will be smooth enough for daily use and slideshow presentation.

Ah, that's upgradble RAM is not possible in the future. Personally I think 4GB laptop is kinda slow for daily use, especially when Linux running Windows in Virtualbox.

Thank you for the link. Checking it right now. Hmmm...Things get complicated.  confused.gif

VM ? Oh boy you gotta pump it up even more

Try Shopee , people sell 'cheap' keys. Now where they are sourced from , I am not too sure but it can be legally activated. Bought Windows 10 Pro upgrade from Shoppe

Depends on the manufacturer - some will put void stickers , others allow you to change parts and all...look at where the stickers are being placed

Sub 3k.
Display maybe 13 to 15 inches.
Battery life maybe 4 hours minimum.
Weight probably sub 2kg.
Can't seem to find anymore Lenovo 320s with 8gb ram, is it still relevant?
*
Ryzen is alright , FYI my X1 Extreme gets about 4-5 hours of battery life (Core i7). E585 is alright you can easily get 4-5 hours battery life

You can read it here , alternatively opt for the Intel variant if you want to....
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/th...-review.827111/

Best part of it it uses usb-c , so bring a high-powered powerbank usb type c and you can charge your laptop instantly smile.gif

*
3.5k ? Probably MSI gaming series you are looking at it. I am putting a side of the build quality and other factors and purely focusing on the needs

Or Lenovo Y530 series (if you can get it at that price)

1. Budget : 3k
2. Usage  : travel and casual surfing. some time will do some casual gaming on nostalgic game like NFSU2 and NFSMW
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : 14in. lightweight, prefer to have dGPU...

any good recomendation? Is Intel 620 a good GPU? Never follow up on computer specs recently
*
I'll let ZM to give some recommendations before giving mine.

I'll answer your other question - Intel 620 is a okay card , when I say okay is basically you can run games which are 5-6 years old game in decent settings . You can't run latest games unless it's super low resolution + mods. But Intel HD graphics has gone a long way.

Personally it can handle modern games like overwatch , world of warcraft and few other light gaming that is optimised...

So yeah Intel HD 620 can help you to play those old NFS games at a pretty high settings
