Then get premium business laptop:
Lenovo Thinkpad T490, T590, T480s, T480 20L5S15K00, T580, X390, X280 20KFS1H300
Dell Latitude 7390, 7490
HP Elitebook 830/840 G5

No preference on battery life?
*
I agree with ZM Fong - you need to buy a business laptop. You'll get support for 5 years , if something broke down you can easily replace it

Business laptops are meant to last since companies purchase like every 3-5 years

If you can afford it , why not - go for it anyway - your money lol

However there is just slight boost in performance

As long average battery life should be ok...  as long the laptop lighweight and thin enough to carry to site.

How about illegear battery performance?
*
Again once you go gaming laptop you are not gonna get super long battery life - average can be anything

for some people 2hrs is okay. My question to you is do you wish to remain unplugged for long and do you wish to charge the computer via USB-C PD powerbank or not ?

Thinkpad - just look at their catalogue - T series if you can afford or X series - else look for L/E series

You need to get the optional graphics card , it will help with rendering work.

T480 - i5 with 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM , MX150 = RM4,433.85 but worth it

L480 - i7 ,512GB SSD , 8GB RAM , Radeon 530 Graphics = RM 4096 (can make it cheaper with i5)

It all depends what you are looking for actually ?

Hi, looking for a laptop and currently looking at the Illegear Onyx Lite and Level51 Forge 15

Budget: RM4000-4500(MAX)
Usage:Use for college, surfing, movies, medium gaming
Requirements: thin bezel(thats why looking at these two laptops), 15inch display, decent battery life

To me the Forge 15 seems like a better deal now as i can get the 9th gen Intel core and GTX 1650 for a cheaper price but not sure about level51 quality
*
Define decent battery life - would you like to use like whole day in class unplugged or how ?

Depends on model and specs

Matebook D is decent but I don't like the non-upgradable RAM and Huawei questionable reliability+aftersales
*
I would prefer the Matebook X Pro - if you have to go with Huawei. Now that's a topnotch ultrabook

Hi sifus

1. Budget : as long as it is good
2. Usage  : browsing internet, watch videos, normal computer usage
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : battery life good, light weight, user-friendly for old people

Do recommend me both notebooks where the monitor is detachable and non-detachable.

Thank you.

How about RM 18,000 MacBook Pro ?

Sry. Budget below RM5k - no gaming.

Battery life min 4 hours. Below 1.7kg.

The laptop where the screens can be detached and can be used as touchscreen tablets.
*
Then be specific smile.gif

You may look at Microsoft Surface to be honest . Got couple of freebies

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/microsof...jS1Jg3&search=1

If not soo power user , can look for normal Surface

Personally if you are looking at a good 2-in-1 laptop computer/tablet. I WOULD recommend Lenovo Yoga but it's a bit meh , Surface is still FTW

University student here. Want to get laptop for engineering and gaming.

1. Budget: 3k-5k (can increase budget if a good option arise)
2. Usage: AutoCAD, engineering, gaming at 60fps high 1920x1080
3. Requirements: decent color, max 2.3kg laptop (lightweight powerbrick if possible), >2-3 hr (higher is welcomed)

I've been eyeing for illegear prodigy/rogue since it fits the requirements, but other laptop recommendations are welcomed.

side question: how big of a difference is there between a laptop 1660ti 6gb and a laptop 2060 6gb in terms of gaming?
*
1660Ti vs 2060 , 1660Ti is capable to drive at High settings with >fps 60. It has a performance of a GeForce 1070 .However 2060 has advantages when you are doing machine learning or AI

Personally I would get a business laptop + an external graphics dock for gaming but it wouldn't be ideal for gaming on the go (that's me)

Studies, but should be able to last abt 3-4 years before obsolete right?
I want to build desktop when i work, but for now i always move around without car so laptop is my only option.
*
1660Ti would do the trick , as it has a bit more cores. So you can play future games at 1080p High (maybe slight things at Medium also). Now would the whole laptop last after 4 years , that's a different question...

1060 is still going strong and will go strong for 1080p gaming

Surface is much more value for money if you ask me. True 2-in-1 , can run as a tablet or laptop. Has a pen and it's pretty good for the usage

QUOTE(TheRareBlueKiwi @ May 12 2019, 02:15 PM)
so how much is the difference in performance between a 1060 and a 1660Ti and price difference? i seen the 1060 around for quite some time.

yeah 4 years would be a stretch :c
*
TLDR - both can pump >60fps on High settings or even Highest - except for 1060 on Tomb Raider (at highest setting) - even my external GPU can't pump that high in highest settings.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalf...s-gtx-1060-7001

4 years should be okay at high/medium settings

QUOTE(TheRareBlueKiwi @ May 12 2019, 02:18 PM)
I can increase budget by 500, but i will put off buying 2.5 storage and ram upgrade for the meantime.
*
My recommendation is to pick up the one with 1660Ti. The reason being is you aren't getting the stupid Max-Q variant which is a joke by nvidia. You would be thinking the max 2060 , but nope it's a crippled 2060 with lower clock speed. 1660Ti looks like full version - so you should get good performacne out of it

Why not gaming/performance laptop? Need Quadro GPU?

FYI 1660TI mobile is slightly slower than 2060 mobile. Both have reduced clock speed compared to desktop ones
*
But if you are gaming at 1080p (High) - assuming you remove DLSS and ray tracing , both can do a good job. Unless he really needs the Turing cores for machine learning

QUOTE(diaBoliQu3 @ May 20 2019, 06:54 PM)
So, I just want to thanks everyone in this forum who helped me in deciding my laptop. Bought myself a Thinkpad T480 without the dGPU and I hope this machine will serve me for a very long time.  However there are few thinks that I disappointed with:

1) The external finishing feels rubberized and a fingerprint magnet, both top and bottom cover case. I prefer the case cover finishing.
2) The placement of Fn and Ctrl. But I'll get used to this.
3) My unit came with SSD installed at the HDD bay and connected by an adapter. I wonder how to add another HDD for storage and backup purpose.
4) I received non backlit unit although their representative replied my email confirming that my unit came with backlit keyboard. Misunderstanding.

What I regret the most is I try to dissemble my laptop by referring to Youtube without the proper tool. Well, I do have experience dissembling laptop and build my own PC but maybe it's bad luck this time. Since I don't have spudger, I use my small flat head screwdriver to unlock the bottom cover clip, ended up I broke one of the clip and left ugly screwdriver mark at another clip, only 2 days after I received the laptop.

The good news; found the replacement part at Aliexpress. The bad news; it cost about RM160.00 and of course it's not covered by warranty.

My RM3.4k lesson, or RM160.00 to be accurate are:
1) Get a spudger. Worst case, DIY.
2) Be patient and make sure you done your homework regarding tutorials and tools.

Anyway, thank you again to this forum. This laptop might not have dGPU, boring design, and poor screen but how can I hate "Thinkpad", >8 hours battery, replaceable parts, and to my these eyes; this display is way better than my old laptop.
*
1) Typical of Thinkpad. I have tons of fingerprint magnet + oil. But it's easy to remove them also...so not an issue , yes it looks ugly but that's typical of all Thinkpad

2) Look at the picture below. It's in Vantage , go to Input and just swap it. Don't have vantage ? Do it in BIOS. It's that simple !

3) umm can use WWAN slot if you want to get another SSD. But you got TB3/USB3.1 - so you can buy an external 2.5" + SSD for backup...take advantage of that ...

4) You can cal support , do you have the SKU details/receipt and do you see the backlit keyboard button , it's Fn + spacebar. If it doesn't work , you can get it replaced. You are paying PREMIUM ON-SITE BUSINESS WARRANTY

Don't compare consumer grade vs enterprise grade

Look at lenovo ideapad or whatever they call vs thinkpad.

Business laptop are built to last longer and for abuses...today i dropped my X1 extreme , still works...no issue

Yeap, that's the reason I dissembled the laptop, to figure out mine came with WWAN slot just like some of the owner reported. Turned out it's easier to just email them and they will send you full detail of parts and hardware, with photo and parts number.  laugh.gif

Order: 28/04/2019
Shipped: 05/05/2019
Arrived: 07/05/3029 (Mice & beg), 10/05/2019 (laptop)

Honestly I was expecting longer than that due to some of post that I read on their Facebook page. I even read some having inaccurate warranty period.

Means I need to buy another M.2 2242 SSD if I want to use the HDD slot?
So that's not a rubberized finished? What worry me is both my headphone and PC casing rubberized finished ruined by our weather.  sweat.gif So, does it stay just like that or it will get shining and peeled off? How long your Thinkpad already?

Regarding the keyboard, I email them already but unfortunately my spec doesn't come with backlit keyboard, even in the purchase detail spec. I don't mind adding another RM57 for the backlit keyboard but sadly no customization for my unit, just "add to cart". I should've email them regarding that. Sigh...

As for the warranty, I don't think mine is premium, thus explain the price.

Mine ? I think it's been for 1 or 2 months already. Anyway , our laptops are MIL spec graded , so it's not going to wear off easily. Don't believe me look at reddit and see how 6-7 year old thinkpad is still looking good !

You got an option for 3 year warranty ? You didn't pick it ?
