Tomatonz: Omg the screw is hurting like the side of my cheeks so badly ! I didn't know it has a head on top, like normal screws. Now I feel like I have a piercing there, like a earring blocking ! I'll get used to this right ? Omg it takes so long to heal? I'm still on liquid today ! Some chicken here, dare not eat ! When did you started your braces yeah? How come your progress is so much earlier than mine sad.gif

2 screws on the upper to lessen my gummy teeth and 2 on the botton to push my bite inner biggrin.gif

Nowaday, the healing is quite fast compare to old time. Just a 2~3 days, you can touch the screw without much painful.. I feel quite surprising on that time actually. Well, after sometime, you will get used to it with those screw. No worry much smile.gif As Teddy they all said, just don't press the area on the lips there will do. You will notice by yourself one how to prevent it get hurt. wink.gif

To me the screw is not the great problem but developing HUGE ulcers because of the constant rubbing between the head of the screws and my lip lasted nearly a week!!!! I am prone to mouth ulcer. I do a lot of things to get rid of it: pray, vitamin C, vitamin B exclusive incl zinc to heal, and drink a lot of water and the  chinese watermelon powder, hurt like mad cuz 2 ulcers became 1 huge ulcer on my left, and right got 3 small and 1 huge ulcer... so you can imagine how bad it is... but now, they are healed... Thank God!

Shenay, my treatment started in May 2010. How about you?
*
I also used to easy get ulcer type. The Chinese watermelon poweder is no work for me. Until i found a medicine called "Oral Aid Lotion", just a small drop, it will relief your pain in min for temporary and it cure the ulcer in few days. (normally my ulcers can last for week)

Thanks tomatonz ^^
In fact I have changed 2 dentists.. Not to say I'm fussy or particular but with expectation. It is about health. I'm observant especially small little tiny things, probably due to my job nature gua..
The reason I'm hesitating between to see a dentist or an orthodontist is due to the experience that I had with the 2 dentists.
First one I met, she did explain to me but I can feel that she's money oriented than patient oriented especially when she smiles (ya...I want your money.. that kind of grin). Ya la, I understand everything also about money. Then she asked me whether I plan to do braces, I answered yes. She checked on my teeth alignment, etc then on the day itself did X-ray and molding.. Not even fixed me yet to see the orthodontist.
The second one, the korek fossil dentist. I told her that I understand that I need to remove the premolar and wisdom tooth that can not be diselamatkan anymore and put on braces since the front overlapping tooth causing so much trouble and my lower case got another overlapping tooth also. Then she answered me - hmm.. this one.. you have to make an appointment with another in house dentist to decide whether to do root canal treatment, crowning or bridge. I was like  shocking.gif What another in house dentist? How many dentist I have to see in the same clinic? You are not dentist meh? What are the fields within your expert? Doing filling only?? I told her about braces then she gave me another answer. Beh tahan.. I did filling two times under her also I ended up my shirt wet geh.. Really wet one ar... Water from my mouth flows to my back. One big patch damp on my back!
Since they are qualified dentist or orthodontist, I don't care which uni they graduated, coz I trust their professionalism.
But sometimes...It is saddening to let me see so many tiny little things which ended up as FLAWS in them.
I hope.. Dr How would give me a better impression and his professionalism end of this month.. Never looking forward to see a dentist/ orthodontist but now I'm looking forward to see him. Hahahha..
*
No worry on all your previous issue. Dr. How have good facility, they have another suction pipe place inside your mouth to suck away all the water, so you will feel comfort during the filling.

Few days ago, i just went to Dr. klinik due to one of retainer broken when I try to remove it on morning. Dr. How is not around, so, attended by Raymond. He is another nice guy and patient to explain what and how he going to do. He is expert on filling, as i have a small gap on side, caused the food always stuck. He said he has confident to resolve it with remove out my old filling and remove with the "teeth color" type of filling and it done perfectly.

Bear in mind, not every dentist can do braces. The persons who help patient install braces must study the orthodontic and get certified. However, there is some dentist may just study but didn't able to pass the certified exam, still perform the work. This is the risky to the patient. Some still not enough experience, as this kind of work need a lot of case study and experience. I trust Dr. How because he been did more than thousand patient and many year experience. Besides that, during my conversation with him, his study result always on top score. Nowaday, he is busy not only in malaysia. Some other country also invite him to provide workshop and training, etc.

I believe this is why he bring in Raymond. I don't have much info about him but i am happy the way he did on my last visit.

When I started braces, I only feel pain on 3rd day onwards and last for few days... First time, Dr use very thin string, so the string still soft, that's why you won't feel much pain..however, it still enough power to move your teeth slowly (24 hours x 7 days) smile.gif

QUOTE(mrchildren @ Jun 8 2011, 08:29 PM)
hi peeps! it's been quite some time since my last post. Just a bit of update, I'll be removing my braces next month. In fact, today at the clinic the doc asked if I'm satisfied with the results so far, but i noticed that there's still a bit of gap on my lower jaw after the wisdom tooth extraction 2 weeks ago! Having said that, the doc decided to tighten it with power chain again and 4 weeks later, i'll see him to debrace. I'm kinda excited, but at the same time i feel things are uncertain again..

kentcp, i know that you're the best person to ask about the post-braces stage. So, after you debrace, are you given the transparent retainer? How long did you wear it for? I've always thought that you can choose to wear it at night only.. but apparently the nurse said that we have to wear 24 hours for consecutive 3 months, and then only nightly.. how was your case like?

I also thought of going for whitening, since the teeth might have discolouration or different colour tone due to the braces. What are the charges like for the whitening? Also do we have to pay again for another xray after the braces removal? Hear from you soon..

As for nikki, i'm not sure if you remember me as an inovation C patient like youself.. how's things for you?? It's my 24 month of braces now (since june 2009). I'm quite tired of it...really..
*
Sorry, been busy on my IT project recently, seldom have time to login here.

1) They give transparent retainer. Personally, I suggest if got budget, then possible make 2 sets. My 1st set was spoilt after half years used. I just remove without care, it break into half sad.gif So, during to busy, i didn;t wear retainer for around 3 days plus. To do the retainer, they need to take the moulding again. That's time, my teeth starts run off a bit, so have to take the mould based on that situation, no choice. Hence, I suggest you guys take 2 sets if you are particular persons, as you don't know when the retainer will break. What if during your oversea travel ? so, the backup retainer will be a big help. Fyi, after retainer, your teeth may still 1~2% run off after sometime. Don't expect high, as our teeth after moved, it need longer time to "stable" back. So, every night need to wear retainer.

2) It is not convenient for me to wear retainer on daytime, as u can't talk nicely. When ear or drink, you need to remove it else drink/food will dirt your teeth. So, i just wear during night time.

3) They did took x-ray again after de-braces and took my photo.

4) Whitening - Laser is quick option but very expensive. >RM1000 Secondly, if you consume coffee or tea or any color food, your teeth will yellow again after 6 months. So, wasted money, unless you are a very control person. I opt for whitening cream that apply at retainer during night time. The advantage is cheaper and you can apply it as and when necessary and the cream can last up to 2 years. The disadvantage is the cream will make your teeth sensitive, so you can apply for few days then have to stop, as you will feel shock pain on teeth. However, the result is good. Secondly, I don't like the cream taste, as somehow you will "eat" a bit during you sleeping.

don't worry nikki, you'll soon debrace just like myself. I'm not sure if i'd prefer a retainer than braces, cus at least i'm kinda used to having braces and retainer make you feel more mouthful and can't really speak properly! if you stop counting the days, you'll find that the wait is shorter.. and at one point, ppl kept asking when am i gonna debrace? when i told them i want to further fine tune before debracing, they thought i'm mental case! lol

Added on June 12, 2011, 6:10 pm

thanks for the info kentcp. Just out of curiousity, how much does it cost for another set of retainer? I like the idea of getting another spare just in case i'll need it when i'm away from home. I was wondering if you only wear it at night, do you find that your teeth start to move again? I'm quite worried about that cus imagine having to endure a few years of torture and pain, and the teeth go back to their original position! I'd see how it goes, whether or not it's too troublesome for me to wear during the day..

Oh they took xray again for you after you debraced. Meaning to say, we have to pay another 200 bucks for that? Wow..it's seriously about money and more money.. sigh..the same for whitening, if it costs so much to be beautiful for only 6 months, i don't think it's worthy. The cream sounds like a better alternative, is it the colgate whitening stuff you're talking about? The price to be beautiful is just so much!
*
Sorry for late reply, been busy on project. Regarding the prices, I can't recall already. For the Whitening cream is only selling at dentist. It will apply to the inner of retainer and wear it overnight.

Sorry a newbie here, thinking of getting braced up .
According to the picture above, let's say the price is based on the picture.

On the first visit we have to pay RM970, can we break it into credits?
I'm sure I don't have enough money to tackle the sum all at once.

hahha.. the Dental clinic is not open by us ya... you have to check with them.

i went to the clinic again, simply because my upper wire poking me and my lower wire pokes into my gum(no pain).

and then after dr how check it, he decided to change wire for me. upper and lower together. 16-25. i heard. its so thick now.. and maybe he is running out of time, as their available time today is 1130-1230, he is very "rude", i feel damn painnnnnnnnnnnnn sad.gif(.

and i have to wear parrot elastic to close my gap, for both side.. and he cannot assure that i wont need extraction again. he said have to depend on my profile.. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
*
I think is not rude.. is the wire thick and it hard to force it into bracket, that's why you feel the pain.. it happenned to me last time.. smile.gif

Wow ! Been away from this thread for sometime due to busy working schedule ~ All the old bracer still active ? How are you all ~ biggrin.gif

I just roughly view last few pages, and I would like to give little advice to those new comer and looking to get some advice to wear braces. Hope to give few cent of idea.. Remember, choice still on your hand. It is a info exchange forum. biggrin.gif
Personally, below are the criteria I look into:-

1) Doctor experience - This is the first thing you should look into.. if the doctor had been done thousand of case, received lot of certificate and recognized etc or not....
Why ? Because you can rest assure that your result will be the best for sure with a high experienced doctor.

2) Professional of Service - A good doctor will never ever talk bad about other doctor. Once I heard the doctor said so, I personally feel the doctor not professional enough to serve me tongue.gif

3) High-tech equipment - I am a person who like / believe the latest technology do help a lot... That's why I choose Damon system for my braces last time. (Nowadays, there is a choice for people who want convenient, can eat food easily and not so obvious to let people know you are align your teeth, then can consider a product called Invisalign. )

lastly, pricing..I just need to ensure the charges is reasonable/average prices will do. (after you look for above 3 requirement, sure you can't find a cheap prices of service. tongue.gif) However, once the clinic allow for installment, then I just need to know how much I need to pay per visit under the installment skim. That's why I put the prices consideration on the last... Skillful & experienced of doctor is the upmost important to me because it is talking about few thousand ringgit..since already going to pay for few thousand, why not seek for real experienced doctor ?

The location of clinic shouldn't put into consideration, as it will limit you to source for real good orthodontist.

Now, those who had read my post back to few years, should get more understand why I choose dr how clinic. You will surprise to see the clinic but the treatment charges is not expensive. Like all the doctor there..opsss, a bit sound like advertise.. But it is real high recommend from my heart la ~ biggrin.gif

I don't think so wor ~ recently, I just pay a visit for check-up, the clinic is improving, environment is much better and class, the staffs are more friendly and nice~ (some are pretty too tongue.gif)
Dr. How still busy as usual but he is still very friendly and professional to all the patient (my observation when waiting for my Q~)
I saw Imperial Dental won ITMJ Medical Travel Awards 2014-Winner of International Dental Clinic of the Year !!! seem like they getting famous internationally lioa !

Just curious, I'm getting my braces removed in 3 months. Usually how do they create our retainers? Take mould of it first then do a retainer for us? How long does this process take?
*
The day you debond, they should help you take the impression to do the retainer and you should able to collect it on next day afternoon. if you debond the braces and without wearing retainer more than 3 ~5 days, your teeth start run off lo.... you already 3 months without braces/retainer ?? shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

Opss.. I didn't read it correctly. doh.gif

My advice is to do two sets of retainer after debond. It cost you some money but at least the retainer have backup set. Imagine if your retainer is broken and you are too busy or oversea for week, then only can go to clinic for take impression to do retainer, basically your teeth run out a bit already and your retainer will based on your teeth condition when take impression. I am the one have this problem last time, so my retainer right now is based on my teeth a bit off one. sad.gif
