QUOTE(alvinrenren @ Dec 23 2018, 08:16 PM) However, this is a good discussion to hold, active or passive rfid. Personally I have tried both, and I believe passive is better. With passive u have less components to connect in your car. Anyway, it is the responsibility of the collector to ensure they can read the rfid. As long as it is installed correctly without tampering, any error also could be escalated by cross checking with car plate( this is also need to follow certain font as per law, rmb last year one stupid mp say it is for our safety to follow the font specified for our car plate? The real reason is for more automated enforcement and toll collection [which is not a bad thing]). I understand the reason passive rfid is being used, i.e.: if select active rfid, more components means higher cost. And probably for the majority of the users of the highway who can buy "petrol card", modify their cars is a burden. But good thing about active rfid is probably we do not need toll booths and manpower. Probably it is like any other projects in Malaysia, first we introduce some sub par standard systems, later we can improve and that is how we make the money rolls. |

In fact passive rfid also don’t need toll booth, it can run on toll gantry just like active rfid (singapore erp). I even drove in Few countries with this passive rfid, just a square tag. No components connected and hence, no extra equipment susceptible to wear and tear. Passive rfid means all equipment is on the gantry and not on your vehicle, imagine visa pywave or masterpass where your card (or your barcode product at supermarket) has no electronics connected, then the counter has a scanner that reads the card or barcode. All electronics are at the counter, all maintenance (when needed) are at the counter. Active rfid means each car need a device with battery/ connection to car battery which in turns means it needs to be bulky and runs all the time( unless it is smart tag where it will activate then run) |

Just installed mine FOC on outer windscreen yesterday (didn't ask why it not on headlamp).
The registration is opened again, this is how I managed to get. 1. Get touch n go ewallet app on your smart phone. 2. Register here http://www.touchngo.com.my/html/preregisterrfid.aspx 3. Wait a few days, no one contacted me or anything. 4. Register and book an appointment to install here! https://rfidregister.touchngo.com.my/ Wait time for step 3 may be variant, if you can't wait, just keep trying step 4 every day until the system recognized you are registered pilot user from step 2. Update: If you didn't get RFID TAG activation SMS after 24 hours from installation time, call TnG and it should be activated in few hours time. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by lamode: Dec 27 2018, 03:19 PM |

But not many highways come with designated rfid lane, meaning usually is rfid and T&G share same lane... so queue is longer than Smart Tag...

for the past 1 week started using rfid, below are the results on 2 cars:
car 1 grand saga batu 11 - failed SILK sg long - failed SILK bkt kajang - passed LDP sunway - failed besraya mines - passed car 2 so far no issue. what i noticed is the sticker placement on windscreen on car 1 is higher than car 2..not sure if this determined the failed outcome..already reported to TnG and still waiting for their response This post has been edited by heizad: Dec 31 2018, 07:54 AM |

Anyone here used rfid on BKE highway (butterworth - kulim expressway). The put rfid signboard there, but when I went through at normal speed, nothing happens. I had to reverse the car and use tng card. Tried both way. It's like they put the signboard, but never install the rfid reader..
