Hello experts,

I am a 24 years old kid (Malaysian) and want to own a second hand BMW F30 328i M-sport so badly. I have 3 income sources, my main income is RM2,670 nett, and going to RM3,770 nett on next month.

Main income: RM3,770 /month (nett) (Fresh graduate income)
Second income: RM500-1000 /month (not consistent)
Third income: RM3,000 - 10,000 / month (so far the highest, been having this for a year)

My expenses:
1. Food & petrol: RM2,000/ month
2. Rental: RM450 / month
3. Entertainment + GIRLFRIEND: RM1,000 / month
4. No insurance since my company is covering it for us as an employee.
5. 0 commitment. (Thanks to my parents for offering me a 10 years old VIOS).
6. 0 commitment since I bought an apartment unit and rent it out.

In average, I can save up RM3,000 - RM15,000 / month. (RM15,000 is the highest achievement so far, only hit once).

I want to have a second hand BMW F30 328i M-Sport 2014 yr, with price RM140K. loan with 7 yrs, and installment would be RM1,400 +-.

I need advise from all experts since I'm still young. The reason I don't want to buy a brand new 318i is because the depreciation value is high and I think it's not worth for me. What I know is the depreciate value is up to RM130K for 4 yrs old car. I'm saying 328i M-Sport.

My concerns:

1. How much would I lost from buying this after I sell it off after 5 years.

2. How much would cost me to maintain? (installment + maintenance)

3. Is it really that bad to buy a German continental car (used car) because I've seen so many bad review on it.

PLEASE TO ALL SIFU TO GIVE ME A PROPER ADVISE....

Unless you have deep pockets, go for it. Continental cars are money pits but they drive damn good. Everything for a price i guess.

24 year old "young" man ?

Answer me these questions first

1) Have you ever own a car b4 ? if yes wat car ?

2) What is the average minimum take home pay each mth for thr past 12mths ?

3) What industry are you in ?, any chance of getting retrenched within these 2 years ?

4) How much of cash savings in the bank now ?

Answer these Q & I will rate your chances of owning a F30 without getting tarik by the Bank in future.

Btw, I am a current owner of a used BMW.

Not own. I'm driving a Vios now (parents' extra car). Not going to sell it off, and planning to own a 328i soon.

2) What is the average minimum take home pay each mth for thr past 12mths ?
    RM3,000 - 15,000. In the past 12 months.

3) What industry are you in ?, any chance of getting retrenched within these 2 years ?
I'm a SAP consultant (System engineer), higher chance to get retrenched. Having multiple investments hich support my cash flow without the needs f spending time to monitor it.

4) How much of cash savings in the bank now ?
  RM50K fd for now.

If im in your position, i'll get a bmw with 1-2 years warranty left just to get the rough figure of the maintenace cost.

Yes that would be great. But I wish to spend about 1.7k from my extra 6-7k saving per month only and use the remaining to wait for better investment opportunity. 140k loan is fine for me. If more than that, I wouldn't have chance to do something else instead of paying for car.

On the current BMW lineup- they dropped the 320 and 330/328 and replaced with 330e M Sport. So 328i M Sport became rare breed currently and it's one of the most BMW-ish of the lot with pure petrol performance without the heavy battery of the 330e.

Since this is Fast and Furious section and not financial section so my advice is Go for it bro!

Seeing how you answered digilife, and on the surface of the numbers you gave, you can afford to own it.

But take note that :
1) not only have to maintain the BMW, you still need to maintain the vios even though not your daily ride. (Petrol + insurance + routine general maintenance)
2) go read up a few bmw forums to get to know some of the quirks of the car. Certain things does cost a lot. German engineering doesn't always mean durability of like the old days. Suggest that you visit some german car 3rd party workshops and talk to the foreman there. They will give you first hand details as they work with it day in day out. I'm no bmw expert, but nothing short of a few googling around should help you.
3) your future life plans :
- whether are you getting married within the foreseeable future? (if want to just play play with girlfriend, might as well dump her and focus the resources on growing your side income, investments and upgrading your skills. Running a relationship is a real drag.)
- you should have a little insurance of your own. You're very vulnerable if the company decides to drop you off.

Driving a 5 years old 328i M-Sport over 100k km. Never give me any problems so far. Even the battery also haven't change.
The tyre is going to be expensive. Especially the rear one. I think it I paid around Rm1.5k per piece. Brake pad and brake disc cost around 1.5k per pair. You just have to pray the adaptive suspension don't spoil.
The engine air intake is quite low. If your car suck in water cost around RM30k to repair. Many F30 suffer from this. So drive slow during haeavy rain.

big bro, let them be la.....don't judge them.....

School of hard knocks is the best of all schools icon_rolleyes.gif

Just think of it as either the financial drag will pull them down to the abyss or (hopefully) become a motivator for them to improve themselves financially.

Thanks for your compliment. At least I earn more than the majority in my age. Age doesn't define everything, CASH does.

I buy it with the minimal lost. Used car, low depreciation, low commitment. At the same time, I still have CASH.

SORRY NOT TO SHOW OFF, BUT EARN FOR WHAT WE WANT.

It's hard to own a fancy car after you're married. So if I can afford it when I'm young (BY OWN MY CASH), why not? Do it only when I'm old?

THAT'S OLD SCHOOL THEORY.......

Yes .. go buy. normal wear and tear parts for Bmw has many alternatives and out of warranty u need not service at franchise holder. Plenty of specialist around. Tyres also need not buy run flats. U can get better uhp tyres for the price of run flats.

As long as u don't get a lemon

If this is real, I don't see any issue of getting this. In fact you can get the new 330e.
