Find a reliable mechanic and stick to him/her. You'll be needing mechanic more as your car get old.

If you not keen to find one, SC is the easy way out. Just you need to accept the appointment waiting time and charges.
*
By right yes. Now days, even SC also not really reliable. You know I visited 1 small SC give me Mitsubishi brand of engine mounting? I was like shocking.gif

Now timing belt, i call another SC, they say Proton no longer have Timing Belt Sets, become separate part. hmm.gif

To be honest it really depends on the workshop previously did your car mess up on honest mistake or it's downright lack of professionalism.

If it's former it's always ok to grow together with your mechanic.

By the way there's one famous belting company called Mitsuboshi. Maybe it's that one you getting from SC?
*
I used to service at Melaka, working at KL, since MCO not back so frequent. One thing about this practice is if any issue, is hard for me to go back if urgent.

Ya, used to be Mitsuboshi for original Proton belt, call just now, they say now is Proton brand. Not sure how true.

I see. If you have no idea which mechanic to go for, my best recommendation will be Zordaq, even for timing belt.

I have good experience with Zordaq JB on my IAFM and my 320,000km belt change. They really know their Campro. The reason i didn't go back for 400,000km change was because they're simply too busy for my appointment and i don't want to travel outstation without changing timing belt.
*
Wow, you reach 400k? Must be heavy travel person. I not even reach my 2nd timing belt mileage only 140k, due to MCO, car not move but date move, so now almost 7 years for 63k only. Plan to drag until 70k, but for safety reason will change it soon. Maybe I will choose KL SC nearby, easy for me.

Guys, when come to absorber is that any different for original proton and Kyb, & etc?

Change timing belt at Proton SC today, they inform my front absorber leaking. They told me proton original is the best, but then the problem is they want to change all 4 for me, even rear is no problem. They quoted me 4 absorbers, 4 Springs & those front lower arm, link and etc all in 1.8k. I was shocked!

Can i delay changing my leaking absorber? When i drive daily didn't feel any different, only have some sound over the bump and that should lower arm sound.

Change all my absorbers due to leaking at EA Autoworks in 2019. They quote me 1.5k for IMP Comfort absorbers. It felt like standard and still going strong.
*
You change all too, can feel the different? How about those lower arm and etc.

Few years back when i change also say is leaking, but i didn't feel any different before and after. Maybe not serious yet. I notice Kayaba a bit lower compare to original.

If you choose not to change even it's leaking, apart from bad handling, you will wear out your tyres in an uneven fashion.
Most of the workshop will order waja parts for persona. Yet, Persona rear absorber is a bit longer than the model for waja. If you check KYB online catalogue, you can see it's 2 different model number for waja rear and persona rear. Most people just live with whatever they got from workshop, some anal one like me will prefer the parts number for persona.

I remember i read somewhere that the hightened rear of persona is to reduce understeering of the car. Might be wrong.
*
I will find another workshop to verify. Not sure yet, as even i drive over the bump still can hear the gas sound from absorber. Or maybe is only 1 out, need to double check. Last Sunday drop by 1 workshop, lazy to jack up the car, just ask me turn the steering, then say not visible leak, and tell me is very old already.

Now want to get original part also not easy. I call up Proton SC, some of them not keep stock, need to order.

Which SC you went to change timing belt? How much is the total cost?
My car 6 years back change timing belt at one of the known campro specialist, after that it was noisy, sent back adjusted twice, getting worse. I think now it could be too loose because morning especially noisy klik klik klik sound (not the V belt).

Now already 6 years and 50k since last change, thought of changing again and hopefully fixed this noisy problem...
*
Is that Zorxxq? I plan to let them check my absorber.

I went to Sin Siang Hin Melawati. Total about RM700, without changing water pump & tensional bearing. Our car really a bit sensitive on timing belt installation, i got it too during my last repair oil seal on workshop outside. At first sounds like drum, I guess it too tight, after few adjust also not as good as before. doh.gif

At first timing belt replaced at D , adjusted once became worse then went to Z request help to adjust, better a bit but still noisy then I didn't care already.

After you change to Melawati, is it good no longer noisy?
*
That noise issue was few years ago. During that change also make my car vibrate more, end up change mounting and still not as good. After that, i purposely back to Proton SC which i regular visit at Melaka, they help me to reassemble back.

Anyway, 11 years old car + our car design, sure have some sound, not sure is IAFM old already or others? If not open bonnet, not obvious. Now the vibrate at neutral back again. Not plan to change the mounting soon, time to check those lower arm, bush & etc. All about money....

I will say this round before change and after change the sound about the same.

Some SC will change water pump & tensioner together which end up about RM1.3

Btw, my old timing belt looks very good condition, can't see any crack. 7 years for about 60K. Just dare not drag.

Once it leak, it is considered damaged and should be replaced.

If cost is concern, replace pair first. As in if this photo is rear strut, replace both rear absorber only.
*
Thanks, bro. This is front. They jack up the car only can see this, else can't detect.
Unfortunately original out of stock, so i choose to wait first. Things need to replace is absorber, then absorber mounting, and the bush. Hope the rest is fine.

I'm using KYB silver colour punya. Says it's heavy duty. Maybe you can try. Original proton one if not mistaken their OEM supplier is KYB G Excel, the black one.
*
My current also is Kayaba, but i noticed they took the Gen2, Waja model, that's why i my car front is lower. Since going to change, i want to get back the original height. Sometimes hard to get them get the correct part, some foreman keep saying is same.

Btw, which type of engine oil you use now? I still stick to 5 -30, city drive is good when high rev a bit loud. Wonder should change to 40 or not?

Guys, lately when start car, it 'tak' for 1 second, then can start as normal. I thought battery weak, after change new battery, once a while still happen, 1st crank, like 1 second not enough power, then will crank & start as normal.

What could be the problem?

Anyone have experience with leaking brake fluid from the master cylinder cap? I don't have any abnormalities when braking, just happen to notice there's brake fluid leaking. The cylinder cap was loose - usually it's a real bitch to take it off but today it comes off easily.
*
yes, few years back happened to me. No matter how tight i turn still will leak slowly. At the end is the gasket on the cover. But the worse part is very hard to find just the gasket. Every spare part shop sell whole set.

Same as mine. I just treat it as non issue. Some times turn on the ignition, nothing, no crank. 2nd time engine crank and start like normal. Happened just now lol.
After 2 hours driving, looks like the reservoir is dry. Confirmed leak is from cap not properly tightened after major service early this week.
*
I guess is the sign of weak starter. Just price to replace is not cheap. I call up Proton RM530. If refurbish out side shop is RM130 to RM290. Still wonder which 1 to choose or just leave it until become worse.

Just worry sudden can't crank then problem.

Didn't do any alignment today tho. Just put on machine, see the reading all within spec. Test drive also nothing. Really weird.  blink.gif
Nah don't worry. It has been like this for years on my car. Just roll with it.
*
Really-ah? Can last that long? My is only initial weak to crank for 1 or 2 second, then after that ok. But before this all this while no such issue. Lately, change timing belt before last few months, but shouldn't be related.

I shouldn't change my battery so soon.

About your alignment, could it be bush or lower arm issue? My haven't change yet.

I think this is one of the problem that only replace when it finally really not working. No use worrying about it, if really cannot start, can call insurance towing service no problem.
All the bushes on the front end is quite new. Barely 2 years old at this point.
*
Do you notice it will become more serious? such as happened more frequent or take longer time to start? At least some indicator or warning to me. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(inferno_17_85 @ Aug 21 2022, 11:09 AM)
If financial ok then can do preventive maintenance. If not can use until cannot use then tow. Anyway try to use new one, either OEM or original. i typically avoid recon parts.
Then maybe the tyre pressure lari only.
*
Ya, bro. This month spent a lot, and i didn't expect the price for the starter so high. shocking.gif
The refurbish i mean here is there are few shop can service the starter by changing internal part at KL, how good after that, I have no idea. Now will monitor and see how frequent it happen.

No pt buying refurbished parts when proton parts are cheap, and refurb one they swapped worn parts out but that doesnt mean internally other parts are ok.
Just need to find it urself in Segambut, or a few spare part shops.
My APM original one is only RM300. Alternator is the expensive one almost 600 APM.
*
Alright, let me check with normal Workshop. Can't identify is Alternator related?

QUOTE(Steponlego @ Aug 23 2022, 11:55 AM)
A bit of general talk, how often do you change the engine oil and ATF?

I'm using shell fully synthetic 5w40, noticed the engine running a bit rough after 7000km and 10 months.

ATF I use Aisin AFW+. After 1 year and 8 months I change because the auto gear shifting starts to feel like crap. Mileage was 15000km. I was targeting for the ATF to last 2 years or 20,000km.

After this I'm thinking maybe ATF should change once every year and full synthetic engine oil only for 6000km.
*
For ATF I still stick back to Proton original change every 20k, Engine oil was using Shell semi, 5w30.

QUOTE(propusers @ Aug 24 2022, 09:04 AM)
is it caused by alternator problem? just sharing... there is 1 expert shop repair alternator discussed here https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2537796/+500
*
ya, I found this shop & Sentul as well. Just I not sure how reliable is this, and relate to alternator or not?
I know while changing battery, they ask me start the engine, then swap the engine, and even before change battery my SOC is 98%, so can conclude that alternator is still ok?

Confirm its not alternator. Either battery too weak, connection to starter loose or starter worn out
*
Thanks. Then i have the answer already. Battery just change, so must be starter. So far happened twice in the past 2 months. Will see how it goes.
