Can, but I'm preferred withdraw VND in Maybank and CIMB atms over there...
*
I would expect doing that will set you back by about 2% compared to BP on exchange rate. Unless you withdraw small amount and your bank doesn't charge you for ATM withdrawal.

Most telco do not charge to receive SMS. Myself and family have done that across various Western European countries and in US, no charge.

While overseas, I can get other card's SMS but not Bigpay's. Don't know what is the problem

I currenry at Sri Lanka, use big pay to make purchase online several time, revived otp, no problem at all
*
Good to know. May be my problem is a one-off problem.

Luckily for me I loaded a huge amount before I went for overseas travel so no problem for general purchases. Just not the online ticketing purposes.

QUOTE(MGM @ Sep 7 2018, 05:42 AM)
Which telco are you all using?
*
I couldn't get mine on Redtone roaming. But I can get SMS from my other cards, just not BP.

Was in Australia for a couple of weeks. Bigpay automatically knows i'm in Australia and auto categorise my spending in Australia. In the end of my trip, the app gave me the summary of my spending.

Only a couple of bugs, it failed to pick up the first two transactions when I landed.

Average rate at x3.01
*
You will always have access to Australia's rate from now onward, even after you returned. The more country you visited, the more rates will be available to your permanently in your apps. Ha, it will records which country you have been.....so you can't lie about not ever been there. LOL.

For those who still don't know how pay with paypal using local bank rates rather than paypal direct conversion, first choose your card, then click on the "Exchange rate", with the pop up choose "Convert with card issuing bank", from Paypal AUD1 = RM3.11, i got AUD1 = RM2.97 in the apps, maybe slightly higher or lower during settled date.

Thank you

Nice, just came back from Bangkok and used the debit card at few places. Checking the rate, yes, it's the best rate I can get. Though you still need hard cash when traveling, I think for shopping, BP is surely the besr for now.
*
Yap, for the time being, the best card for traveling.

And it also depends which country you are going to. For more advanced western countries, probably 95% of my spending are by card.

Both TM steamyx/telephony and unifi rejected my autopay with bp cc
*
May be that's because it's a Prepaid card? What if there is no money in the card when the auto transaction wanted to go through on that particular day?

Same here in Switzerland, wanted to pay at supermarket but card failed me. Error message that came out : 'insufficient balance' which is not possible!

Good thing I had changed some money otherwise...

For those traveling overseas, might wanna have secondary card or some local currency and not just reply solely on bigpay.
*
For overseas travel, it is ALWAYS a good idea to carry more than one card. One Visa and one Mastercard. Widespread failure have occurred before.

Even though there are some benefit for cash back and competitive forex rebate, why bother to use this card and I see a lot of problem while top up and swiping in retail?
*
I may be lucky but I have never encountered top up problem (except while overseas and that could be either BP's or Telco's problem). And never any problem during local online purchases nor overseas spending.

And the apps keep all your spending records and that is important to me. No months-later-statement-reconciliation-issue for me.

I thought this only happened 15 years ago. I'm surprised that it's still happening today.
That was the old saying. Later I've learned that you need cards from different banks as well. If the problem is not Visa/MC specific, it'll be the bank and all cards from the same bank will be declined.
*
Of course.

Visa/MC server can go down.

A particular bank's server can go down.

So you naturally want to minimize your risk of card not being able to function.

Well if we want to replace our normal card transaction with BigPay, I guess we expect same or similar level of reliability during payment.

It's very frustrating and discouraging, if the payment failing once in a while unexpectedly....
*
You can't think that way.

if you insist on 100%, then you can't use Visa or Mastercard. Because both have records of global failure before. Well, sort of Global.

So what card are you going to use then? And even cash will sometime fail or frustrate you when you don't have Wechat pay in China.

Ain't this normal for any services? People won't come online praising the services/products if they're working but looking for discussions/threads/solutions when they've problem smile.gif Anyway, my experience with BP so far is quite good.
*
I do. BP is, for the time being, a great card for oversea spending. And also a great card for tracking of spending.

Well, I'm spoilt by BigPay due to the Fx rate compare to the CC Fx rate. BigPay is definitely the first payment option whenever I'm overseas.

I was at UK last month and it worked perfectly fine and now I'm currently traveling in Romania for the past two weeks. Had 1 failed transaction due to insufficient fund last week and that was totally my fault.

But for past few days, most of the transactions were failing. I can see from the app it reserved and release for some reason. It gives me the feeling of no confidence to swipe BigPay knowing it may fail anytime especially you know there's long queue behind.

Again, I'm not going to stop using BigPay due to the Fx rate but it's always good to inform everyone for failed transaction as a kind of awareness instead of rant.
*
This is indeed a concern.

But then, if you swipe and if it fail straight away, you can always pull out another card. And if it doesn't fail straight away and you have already enter the premises, you wouldn't be holding up the queue by then.

May I know what do you mean by this? How do you do an effective BT with bigpay card?

Another thing, seems like there's some reported issues for certain users. Anyone encountered any problem using the bigpay card for ATM withdrawal and/or retail transactions in US?

Would really like to know so that if necessary I may have to have some backup just in case I can't use bigpay card in US..
*
No problem with paying for stuff in USA. And as usual, great FX rates.

Sure? Sometime I have other credit card's SMS OTP reaching me a couple of hours later and by then, it's useless.

OTP delay can be due to external factors.

Bank -> (direct or wholesalers) -> Telco SMS gateway -> SMS Centre -> Phone

Most of the time failure happening to SMS Aggregator/Bulk SMS provider
Sometimes due to downtime n maintenance (Very rare...)
MNP can be one of the possibility where SMS terminate wrongly

But as far as I can recall, SMS OTP issue no longer happen as frequent as it used to.
*
It does happen to me from time to time. So I just change to another card which have no problem receiving SMS.

From a consumer point of view, I only know sometimes this card have problem and the other card doesn't. So all card one time or another have problem, not just Bigpay. No card is 100% fault free all the time.

Something interesting occurred. Was trying to top up with credit card and put in the wrong CVC number and OTP still came. How come?

Luckily the OTP doesn't work.

I just came back from Australia.

Instead of withdrawing cash from ATM, I used BigPay to pay for my purchases.
It turned out to be even better as I did not have to incur the RM10 withdrawal fee and the AUD exchange rate was dipping slightly everyday biggrin.gif
*
For developed Western country, you need very very minimal cash on hand. In fact, I think what you may need is some coin instead to operate the airport trolley biggrin.gif

Some of these trolley are like the supermarket cart, you need to insert some coin to release one for use.

Just to update my experience when want to use my bp card to pay for my airasia tickets. Confirmed that there is enough credit to proceed with my tickets, tried a few times, no luck the transaction didn’t get through. In the end I have the use my another credit card to pay for my tickets. In the end, I have extra 1.3k in my account.

Didn’t manage to save up the transaction fee and have to waste additional 6 bucks to cash the money out. Arggghhhhh
*
I purchased 5 AA tickets in past few days. None have problem. May be you are just unlucky.
