Hi guys, did bigPay have charges on oversea transaction?

I did swipe one transaction in China on November 1 , which is RMB 800 ( MYR 479.65)  , and the initial currency rate was RM 59.95 per RMB 100.

And I have constantly checked the currency on November 2 and 3, the currency rate is at Myr 60.4 per RMB 100.

However today ( November 3) , the transaction final settle is MYR 495.53. Which equivalent to MYR61.94 per RMB 100, that’s a huge difference in currency.

Anyone has any idea on this?

Could it be a surcharge fee? I haven't actually swiped my card at outlets or store before as credit card is not common there. But a travel agent in China mentioned to me that if make payment in credit card, there is an additional bank fee. In my case, 4% bank fee.

2 days ago I use BP for petro. Charge me Rm 200 while I only pump rm 60.
They gonna take days to refund me the rm 140?
*
What they do is that they hold RM200 until the merchant settles/claims the money. When the merchant settles the claim, they will have the exact amount you used. The balance will then be released back into your account. Usually it takes around 3 days. If the merchant is fast, you will get it back sooner. You just have to make sure that you have extra money for the holding amount if you would like to use the petrol kiosk terminal.

Alternatively, you could go into the shop, and make card payment to the cashier via the card terminal by stating the amount you would like to pump. In this case here, your money won't be held.

Yes, if BigPay charge 2% fee (as 1 of the user reported recently) I will not use BigPay for oversea txn as bank credit card charge lower than 2% on top of the VISA/Master exchange rate. Where some credit card do provide cashback to cover the fee charged.
Yes, I was using BigPay for taobao purchase and the rate always follow XE.. but, since got someone reported that the rate is 2% higher than MasterCard rate, then I wonder is it BigPay start to imposed 2% fee.. I hope it is not but someone reported it.. maybe others who have recently done foreign rate purchase could share their rates too..

Else, if BigPay really charge 2% fee, I think I will stick back to credit card which charge only 1.25% - 2% such as PBB
*
My recent transaction to ctrip:

Oct 28 CNY140 (MYR84.15) settled at MYR84.19 (CNY100=MYR60.135)
Nov 2 CNY356 (MYR213.15) settled at MYR216.15 (CNY100=MYR60.716)

I've used the mastercard conversion rate to check with 0% bank fee and it's exactly the same amount charged. PBB would have charged 1.25% bank fee.

Master Card portal only has the rate until yesterday.
Will check TMR see what's the rate for today.
*
You should note that the date and time on mastercard conversion site follows US EST. So transaction before 1pm our time and after 1pm will have different rate as well. They update their rate for the day at 2pm EST, so our 3am.

Actually BP has no control in Mastercard exchange rate. Other Mastercards from other banks will give you the same rate too. The difference now is that BP shows you the amount in holding when you make a transaction, and the amount when it is settled. And I think because of this, because of the difference, some users only just realised something that has been happening all these while with other cards too. I have a habit of checking the holding amount when I make an overseas transaction way before there was BP card, and double check on mastercard conversion site. And when the amount is settled, I check the site again and they tally. The difference is that last time I would enter 1.25% at the bank fee portion, but now with BP, it's 0%.

Anyone experience while in Hong Kong, bill in HKD but transacted in USD? I was at the CC terminal but not given option (usually either HKD or MYR). The rate is very bad not cause of BigPay but double conversion.
*
I had one experience in Korea where there is an option to choose to pay in ₩ or £. So supposedly you should be able to select whether you want to pay in HKD or USD. So in your case, USD is selected somehow, which means that they will do the conversion from HKD to USD using their rate, and you will pay in USD. The rate that they use usually is not that good. As for the USD to MYR conversion rate, it will follow the mastercard rate since you use BigPay.

As you said, cashier may select the currency with out realizing, I always tell the cashier to charge as local currency, yet they still convert to MYR, and nothing I can on it ( denied the transaction) which not acknowledging by me, DO you still accept this transaction swipe? NOT to say I don’t like the currency rate converted, is just the transaction amount agreement is not acknowledged by me as cardholder. So what is the protocol to make such refund? How it works for bigpay?

Even when I swipe incorrect amount/ double swipe, we are still able to call bank to revert the transaction immediately through phone call, but BigPay doesn’t have customer service call to handle this?
*
If you have told the cashier to charge at local currency but they still convert it, then can you actually ask the cashier to void the payment, and cancel your purchase?

Consulted AirAsia cs, no choice to clear the RM4 now and ask to reach there and pay the outstanding amount at the counter. Completely mess up my schedule on the fly day.

They had confirmed , no discount will be given for add on luggage for now using BigPay

Alert:
To those whose flight is coming soon and plan to add on / had already add on and having the same issue, be at the airport at least 4 hours to pay at the counter. Any payment due will be not allow to board.

Hopefully the BigPay team will solve the issue as soon with AirAsia team not showing the 'discount' amount again in the website
*
Did you purchase meal and got RM2 discount earlier? It seems like you can only get discount if buy all the add on at one go. The second time you do it, you will have to pay the full price. AirAsia will make you pay back the discounted amount.

You can still pay the outstanding amount online using other cards. BigPay card won't work now. Then, you don't need to pay at the counter. Yes, you won't be allowed to board with outstanding amount.

In your Lazada wallet, there is this section under "Balance Details", where refunds can be withdrawn. I saw that but haven't tried before. You try and see.

12-12 sale coming. would like to know if BP can use at
a) Lazada
b) Shoppee
*
I used BP to top up Lazada wallet since there is a 5% cash rebate right now. Then use Lazada wallet to pay during the sale.

I’ve been using BigPay in China. So happy that I’ve found this card.

Maybank visa/master rate rm0.623
While big pay most of the settled transactions is at rm0.603.

However, some of the terminals just won’t work with bigpay while Maybank master card would work.

Which city in China?
*
I'm curious to know too. So far most cities in China don't accept visa or mastercard, but only union pay. And that is if they accept card.

Probably he was in Beijing? Then, there will be mastercard acceptance.

One lesson I've learnt, good to have union pay card as back up or for emergency usage, besides cash.

Shanghai, I realise union pay is the worst in terms of exchange rate. On the first day, I tried with a union pay card and the exchange rate was close to 0.64.
Shanghai. The acceptance rate is quite high. Just not sure why the same terminal accepts my Maybank MasterCard but failed to process my bigpay.
*
Which union pay card did you use?

Could it be that the union pay card that you use charged you bank fee? According to the rate given at their website, the exchange rate is around 0.60xxx
https://www.unionpayintl.com/cardholderServ...ate?language=en

If you use BOC travel prepaid card, then you can just store RMB into the card, so no bank fee. If you use PBB Union Pay debit card, there will be a 1.25% bank fee.

And of course, since you can use bigpay, then no bank fee is always better as you get lower rate.

Not sure, yet to figure out.
But when I used BP to pay for the add-on (Checked Baggages, meals), the payment amounts were automatically reduced.
(Transactions 18/12 - 26/12)
*
Right. It's kinda like on and off. I bought luggage add-on on 11 Nov and I got discount, but no discount when I bought on 26 Nov. There is discount when I bought flight and luggage together on 20 Dec.

I just tried just now to add on food onto my flight and it showed discount when I entered BigPay card.

if fact, as a user, you can always ops to not save your credit card. It works seamlessly in grabpay and boost. have you even reload it at oversea before? you have to activate roaming to get the tac to reload. by activating roam already deduct rm36 for some country.
*
If data roaming, you have to pay. But for voice roaming, just to receive sms, it's free. Make sure you turn off mobile data and data roaming.
