Serie A Week 3 - 20/9/08 (19.30 UK)
Roma 3 - 0 Reggina Panucci 45 (Ro), Aquilani 51 (Ro), Perrotta 93 (Ro) Stadio Olimpico Roma finally got their first win of the campaign as Christian Panucci, Simone Perrotta and a cracking Alberto Aquilani goal sank Reggina 3-0. Both sides were without a win going into the third round and the Giallorossi needed to escape their crisis of one point from three games, including the midweek Champions League home defeat to debutants Cluj. Francesco Totti, Philippe Mexes and Simone Perrotta were only fit for the bench, while Juan was out, so Simone Loria had to improvise as a central defender with Christian Panucci. There was a moving moment before kick-off, as the Curva Sud unveiled a giant image of recently deceased President Franco Sensi with the phrase 'What we do in life echoes throughout eternity. Grazie, Presidente.' Di Gennaro hit the woodwork directly from a corner kick last weekend and almost did it again in the opening 120 seconds. Soon after, Luca Vigiani's impressive strike with the outside of his right foot swung inches past the far post. Roma also threatened as Rodrigo Taddei's cross was powerfully volleyed just over the bar by Matteo Brighi, while Alberto Aquilani flashed a snapshot off target. Loria was accidentally felled by a knee to the side of the head by goalkeeper Alexander Doni, but he was able to continue with a large bandage to stem the bleeding. Edgar Barreto drilled a free kick wide from 30 metres, but Roma had a fine chance on 31 minutes. Aquilani and Taddei combined for Jeremy Menez to put a cross back across the face of goal, but nobody was ready for the tap-in. Towards half-time, the Giallorossi seemed increasingly desperate as Menez and Daniele De Rossi ballooned hopeful efforts well over from improbable distances. However, they broke through in first half stoppages at the end of a chaotic move. The De Rossi free kick ricocheted around the penalty area with Campagnolo performing a desperate save on Mirko Vucinic, Aquilani missed the backheel, but it fell to the totally unmarked Panucci at the back post. Franco Brienza returned from a muscular problem to replace Di Gennaro for the second half. Doni plucked a fierce Barilla' strike out from under the bar, but at the other end Vucinic tested Campagnolo at the near post. Aquilani pulled a fantastic goal out of nowhere to double Roma's advantage six minutes into the second period. The home-grown talent surged forward from the centre-circle and unleashed a left-foot missile into the near top corner from just inside the box, giving the goalkeeper no chance. The shot was measured as travelling at 93km/h. It was an important moment, as in their last three games the Giallorossi had taken the lead only to throw it away against Napoli, Palermo and Cluj. Vucinic turned a hopeful volley off target and Reggina switched to a trident attack with Fabio Ceravolo replacing Vigiani. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_ita...09/rom-reg.html |

QUOTE(Abangpedro @ Sep 21 2008, 08:48 AM) well all the best to Spurs, hope things changes fast for u. finally we played a good game this season. we still in some injury crisis heading into this game, but the boys finally stepped up their game there. we almost completely control the game that Reggina hav no chances at all. Menez's 1st start in Serie A is a bang ! his movements and link-ups were a joy to watch, in my book he's oledi a starter now. Vucinic hav a very fine game too, n not to mention Aquilani who scored a cracking goal. lets hope this is the season that King Alberto will finally live up to his expectations ! the goals : |

Typical win after big shocks for Roma.both could be turn arounds for the seasons of each team. Totti was understandably off form, but his shot that lead to Perrotta's 3-0 was awesome. Good news for Roma is that Mexes will be back next Wednesday (at least likely to be back). So they'll just need to get Totti and Juan back (though I don't know if Juan is already fit or what).

Totti misses Marassi date Tuesday 23 September, 2008 Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani will be fit to face Genoa, but captain Francesco Totti is still out of action. Aquilani reported muscular pain on Sunday after playing a starring role in the Giallorossi's 3-0 win over Reggina. But the 24-year-old has eased fears over his fitness by training as normal ahead of Roma's tough trip to Marassi tomorrow evening. However, Totti's injury problems continue to linger. Er Pupone came on as a substitute against Reggina, but he still isn't 100 per cent. Injured men Juan, Julio Baptista, David Pizarro and Marco Cassetti are also unavailable to Luciano Spalletti. Roma squad: Aquilani, Artur, Brighi, Cicinho, De Rossi, Doni, Filipe, Julio Sergio, Loria, Menez, Mexes, Montella, Okaka, Panucci, Perrotta, Riise, Taddei, Tonetto, Virga, Vucinic http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sep23i.html |

this is gonna be loooooooooooong season for us.
we played pretty good actually but still ended up lose 1-3. Panucci had a goal being wrongly disallowed when its 1-2. DDR then got red-carded. wow. i hav no idea whats wrong with the team now. i fear that Spalletti's time might be counting down now. but still... Forza Roma !!! |

and apparently Roma was treated badly with several screwed up decisions by the ref (one beign a 2-2 that Panucci scored). Read in some places that their problem is that they lost movements in their wings which is what made them deadly in the last 2 seasons.
