No Atalanta for Totti Saturday 27 September, 2008 Francesco Totti is out of Roma's game with Atalanta along with several other top stars and the suspended Daniele De Rossi.
The Giallorossi need a win to emerge from their crisis, but face this encounter without many of their top players.
Totti was hoping to celebrate his 32nd birthday with a goal, but will have to watch from the stands as he has still not fully recovered from his knee injury.
Roma are also without David Pizarro, Marco Cassetti, Juan, Julio Baptista, Max Tonetto and the suspended Daniele De Rossi.
Coach Luciano Spalletti has therefore called up 17-year-old youth team defender Riccardo Brosco.
w00t nice win there. Atalanta has always been a tough nut to crack, whether its home or away. thank God we got Super Christian ! including the perfectly legal but denied by ref goal in Genoa match, he now had scored 4 in a row.
Vucinic also opened his league account finally, lets hope for more.
Totti ruled out for Bordeaux Monday 29 September, 2008 Roma will have to negotiate tomorrow's trip to Bordeaux without captain Francesco Totti.
The Giallorossi captain sustained a serious knee injury last April but seemed to have made a miraculous recovery in pre-season.
However, despite coming on as a substitute in the Italian Super Cup and against CFR Cluj and Reggina, Totti is far from fully fit. Totti had hoped to return for tomorrow's crucial Champions League test against Ligue 1 side Bordeaux but he hasn't been named in Luciano Spalletti's squad.
The knee continues to trouble Er Pupone and the decision was made after he felt pain in training this morning.
Having lost their Champions League opener to Cluj, Roma must beat Bordeaux to get their European adventure back on track.
But Spalletti is also without David Pizarro, Marco Cassetti, Juan, Vincenzo Montella and Max Tonetto.
Totti's situation makes me worry. he had recovered pretty fast during the pre-season period but still yet to back to full fitness, despite being subbed in for several games oledi. hope everything is ok.
Juan is still out, but Baptista is back into the squad. i'm not really confident that we can win to be honest, but if we do it could really springboard our season ahead. this could be our 1st potentially decisive match this season.
Roma have De Rossi doubts Wednesday 1 October, 2008 Azzurri midfielder Daniele De Rossi may miss out on Roma's Champions League test in Bordeaux this evening.
The Giallorossi badly need three points tonight after losing their opening European clash to Romanian champions CFR Cluj.
But they may have to deliver without De Rossi, who has been suffering from pain in his right ankle after landing awkwardly on it during training yesterday. Tests at around 4pm this afternoon will reveal whether De Rossi is fit to play at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.
Coach Luciano Spalletti is already without inspirational captain Francesco Totti and may have to put his trust in Matteo Brighi.
Jeremy Menez is likely to start on his return to his homeland and Simone Perrotta and Alberto Aquilani could both play from the first minute if De Rossi is unfit.
Champions League, Gp A Matchday 2 - 1/10/08 (19.45 UK) Bordeaux 1 - 3 Roma Gourcuff 18 (B), Vucinic 64 ®, Baptista 70, 83 ® Stade Chaban-Dalmas
Roma are back after a 3-1 win away to 10-man Bordeaux with Julio Baptista's brace and a Mirko Vucinic header.
In a curious statistic, both Giallorossi goalscorers were celebrating their birthday, but once again this team shows psychological problems when running into difficulties, as they were dismal until the equaliser.
The Giallorossi desperately needed a result after their shock 2-1 home defeat to Cluj. Francesco Totti, Juan, David Pizarro, Max Tonetto and Marco Cassetti were out, but Daniele De Rossi passed a last-minute fitness test on an ankle problem to start. Bordeaux could boast former Milan midfielder Yoann Gourcuff and ex-Siena man Fernando Menegazzo, but left Argentine talent Fernando Cavenaghi on the bench.
There was also a reunion on the sidelines when Christian Panucci met up with Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc, as they played together for Inter in the early 1990s.
Jussie' went on a central run and fired straight at Alexander Doni and Gourcuff drilled wide, while at the other end Valverde slapped away a dangerous Alberto Aquilani free kick that was heading for the top corner. It was the home side that seemed more aggressive and took the lead on 18 minutes. Gourcuff gathered in the outer corner of the penalty area and did not hesitate to sweep a precise right-foot screamer into the far bottom corner past Doni's outstretched fingertips.
Roma struggled to get back into the game and their first real chance was on 26 minutes with John Arne Riise's touched-on free kick whistling wide.
The match was ill-tempered and exploded on 36 minutes. As Bordeaux were waiting to take a free kick, the Spanish referee spotted Henrique swing out an arm to elbow Simone Perrotta in the face. It was a straight red card and left the home side playing with 10 men for almost an hour.

Blanc made two substitutions straight after the dismissal to shore up his side, one tactical and one to replace the injured Obertan. In fact, Wendell went close to doubling Bordeaux's lead in first half stoppages with a header wide when the Roma defence had been caught napping.
The second half began with heavy rainfall in France and Julio Baptista replaced Jeremy Menez. Despite the situation, Bordeaux continued to have the best chances with Gourcuff free kicks.
In the secon period Panucci, Rodrigo Taddei and Julio Baptista went into the book, as Roma were increasingly frustrated. Luciano Spalletti threw on striker Stefano Okaka Chuka for Aquilani in a desperate bid to increase their attacking potential.
It did the trick, as Roma equalised soon after with Mirko Vucinic. A De Rossi corner was whipped in to the six yard box for the Montenegrin's towering header at the near post.
It seemed to wake up the Giallorossi and Valverde rushed out to close down at Cicinho's feet and they turned it all around in the space of seven minutes with another dead-ball situation. Substitute Julio Baptista curled a marvellous free kick into the near top corner, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Okaka should've made it 3-1 on 76 minutes when clear on Vucinic's cutback, but swept well wide of an open goal.
Julio Baptista made it a double celebration for his birthday, completing a brace as he came sliding in through the middle to meet a Taddei volleyed pass into the six-yard box. Bordeaux: Valverde; Chalme', Henrique, Diawara, Jurietti (Gouffran 77); Fernando, Diarra; Obertan (Planus 40), Gourcuff, Jussie' (Wendell 37); Chamakh
what a relief there that we won n got the 3 points.
to be honest we played awful for the the opening 50-60 min, but thing changed right after Vucinic equalized for us, n Baptista went on to kill the game with 2 nice goals... nice play from the Beast.
Cluj hold Chelsea to a draw, looks like Group A is much more interesting than what i expected.
guys apa macam wit this thread...sunyi je...isit bcoz roma isnt performing, so fans pun no mood la nak buat posting?
lol its never abt the team performing or not. non-EPL team threads here in LYN are far less active most of the time. usually there's only me who maintain this thread here.
now recalling laz nite match... seriously i believe Perrotta should b dropped once n for all. he was complete crap in the match, but yet Spalletti waited til almost 80min to sub him out. WTF.
he can't dribble, can't shoot, can't pass, can't playmaking... basically what he do most is juz run, run, n run more. I appreaciate his contributions, n always like his determination n workrate, but seriously i think he had lost it now.
