overheat?
Not sure, I have no way to check the temperatures as GT-AC5300 doesn't come with Merlin's support sweat.gif

i just bought AC68U from online
Why did you buy AC68U?
Should've gone straight for RT-AC86U since the price difference is not that much but with way better hardwares

QUOTE(christina1 @ Nov 27 2018, 11:52 AM)
This temperature ok ?
It's normal

RT-AC87U is using the same processor with RT-AC68U
Broadcom 4708 & 4709 is the same processor, just different clock speeds, from which they are known for high operating temperatures
Nothing to worry about as Broadcom 4708 & 4709 Tj. Max is 130°C

However, I'm the type who believes electronics would run better & last longer if they are a bit cooler
That's why I previously said RT-AC86U definitely doesn't need extra cooling, but I'd still do it anyway as I want the router to last long
QUOTE(WaCKy-Angel @ Nov 27 2018, 01:34 PM)
What about AC86U vs AC88U ?
RT-AC86U is better because of faster CPU & bigger flash memory
RT-AC88U only wins in terms of more gigabit ethernet ports and it's 2.4GHz MIMO 4X4 whereas RT-AC86U only has 4 gigabit ethernet ports & it's 2.4GHz only supports MIMO 3X3
But who uses 2.4GHz at 4X4 anyway? laugh.gif
**RT-AC86U 5GHz supports 4X4 MIMO. Only it's 2.4GHz runs on 3X3 MIMO
QUOTE(WaCKy-Angel @ Nov 27 2018, 01:34 PM)
I put router inside tv cabinet so its rather short height and AC86U need to stand right? Now even current RT66N antenna also cant put up straight, need to bend abit to fit.
Too cramp wei, find another place to put la, router placement is very crucial in order to make it run without any instability issues caused by overheating
Open air is better thumbsup.gif

totally fine, my AC86U is running at 92C for CPU.
92°C is quite hot for RT-AC86U without fan
My RT-AC86U without fan runs at only 70°C ~ 72°C

Where did you put your router LOL laugh.gif

Today just reached my hand.  Why wireless region set to aus? My 1st unit changed from china to asia.
Why does it matter which region it originally set to?
Just change the region by yourself

Not happy with GT-AC5300 performance ?
No, I'm very happy with the GT-AC5300
It's just that I really prefer using Merlin firmware instead of official ASUS firmware
QUOTE(christina1 @ Nov 27 2018, 10:04 PM)
Friend read from Chinese forum said  RT-AX88U lack of features if got discount better get RT 86U..
I already use RT-AC86U before switching to GT-AC5300, not downgrading

I tot you said region to aus?
Sorry, misunderstood your post
Australia wireless region provides higher mW so the wireless signal is stronger and has larger coverage

Not earning anything actually
I just sell it at RM1500 to cover back the cost of buying RT-AX88U which currently is RM1500 also
QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Nov 28 2018, 10:17 AM)
where to check the temperature reading on ASUSwrt ?
If you're using stock ASUS firmware, you can't
Only with Merlin you can see the temperature

I just spoke with the Taobao seller whom I bought my GT-AC5300, apparently the price will be reduced from ¥2999 to ¥2699 = ¥300 discount = RM1630.49 on 12.12
He also gave me a ¥300 coupon so I can buy it right now laugh.gif

Coupon only valid until 30 November
Damn, I gotta sell my GT-AC5300 now

Here's hoping I can sell it for RM1500 laugh.gif

I always sell higher than what I bought in Mudah.my & Carousell

My RT-AC68U I bought for RM200 in Taobao, sold it for RM400
My RT-AC86U I bought for RM400 in Taobao, sold it for RM700

RT-AX88U is too big and can't afford to put on my router shelf. I does not need a router with 8 LAN ports because my router was plugged directly to a 16-port gigabit switch.
I will wait for RT-AX86U in the future.
I never said you need it laugh.gif
I want RT-AX88U for several reasons

1. I don't need tri band on the GT-AC5300, dual band is more than enough
2. I need Merlin, I don't like stock ASUS firmware. And Merlin himself said he will never support the GT models
3. The processor used inside the GT-AC5300 is also the same processor used inside the RT-AX88U which is Quad Core 1.8GHz CPU
4. The RT-AX88U also uses 1GB RAM same like the GT-AC5300
5. Yes, I really need the 8 ports laugh.gif

How much can I expect to get by selling both my current AC1200 and DIR-842? Both are less than 2 months old.
If lucky can get RM200 (for both, not each)
Because both of those routers are worthless

Speed Test : 480-510 mbps (both Lan and Wifi)
Something wrong there
RT-AC86U is more than capable of handling 800Mb/s speed

Did you by any chance enabled the QOS? If you did, disable it and run the speedtest through LAN cable again

Also, try to differentiate between Mb & MB
b - bit
B - Byte

8 bits equals to 1 byte
100Mb/s ÷ 8 = 12.8MB/s
800Mb/s ÷ 8 = 100MB/s

I'm using UniFi 500Mb/s and I can reach 62.5MB/s just fine using direct download

mind to share lino for any large file u download with that kind of download rate.
Just download a huge game from Steam/Battle.net/EA Origins/Ubisoft Uplay
Their servers can manage those speed just fine

I am more than capable of utilizing the full speed of my UniFi 500Mb/s on those server
