i see, its weird tho that i have read a lot bout the spoke rusting issue and breaking easily on other cycling forum.
a lot of hate for mavic wheelsets TBH

im debating should i upgrade aero wheels or lightweight low profile wheels soon.

current wheel is merida scultura stock wheel
*
did abit of googling and there were mixed reviews. some had that issue some didn't.
sorry i do not have a pair now give u an update.

fulcrum would be a good alternative as an upgrade if you're worried.

i bought the 2019 R2...came with latest 105 r7000... only able to afford that amount of money. 8k.    it weighs around 7.9+...  still heavy. probably change to lighter stem/wheel later on
*
precisely, that's not apples to apples since Ultegra is retailed at around 1.5-2k more than the 105

do u face any issue? i read about spoke rust and break easily?
how is the rolling? worth the upgrade from stock wheel?
*
Few months back, my uncle broke one of the spokes (rear wheel, drive side) of his ksyrium elite, sent back to pedalspot for repair, they suspecting could be due to rust.

This is weird. I've used Ksyrium Elites, Pros and now using the Exalith SL, never had any issues with the spokes rusting or corroding.

I still keep in touch with the person that I sold my Elites to (6 years old wheel now), and the spokes are still good

probably. the more usual complains about mavic wheels are to do with their freehub bushing. where the yellow plastic bushing can wear away with use as it rubs against the rubber seal, resulting in the freehub coming loose over time. but I get around this problem by using a heavier lubricant just at where the bushing contacts with the rubber seal.

they're definitely not as smooth rolling as fulcrums, but my preference for mavics are more because of the better responsiveness on climbs.

Not the rubber seal. But the hub alloy shaft. The nylon bushing is in contact with the alloy shaft. It screeches when the lube dries up. If u have extra money, get an aftermarket freehub body from hubdoctor. It has proper bearing instead of bushing

the original GP4000 was well known for that, but the current GP4000S2 models are ok. maybe try the GP5000?

Used and would recommend:
Pirelli p zero velo. Sworks. Schwalbe one not too bad but lousy wet grip.

Bought, going to use once current tyres wear out:
Michelin power competition

Won't buy ever again
Challenge strada (too hard to mount and take out)
Gp4ks2 (koyak after a month)
Bontrager r4 (older model, puncture prone, too thin)
Vittoria corsa graphene (likes to keep small stones and glass embedded inside, puncture protection layer useless also, 6 punctures in a month.

Used before, didn't hate but probably won't buy again:
Michelin pro4
Rubino Pro 3

how long did u use the s-works tires for?
s-works turbo after 2/3k kms are like puncture magnet. especially where the are so much debris in our roads.

how's the Pirelli p zero velo? thinking of trying out this one.

the GP4000S2 worked well for me, but instead I find that the Schwalbe 1 being the one that wears out fast for me instead

Quite long. Used at the back, about 6k km until the center became flat and got chunks of it come out exposing the fabric underneath lol. Maybe I was lucky, didn't get much punctures. Opposite of the corsa graphene, some people didn't have problems, I had shitload of punctures, gave up after 2 months and use for indoor trainer.

I love it. Decent speed and doesn't puncture from penetration, only pinch flats from hitting potholes downhill. Best grip among all tyres I've used. 2nd ride on it and I got PR from gs to janda baik downhill, wasnt even trying to go fast. Bmc ss2 had a good deal on the pirelli, bring any old tyre and can get 25% off the pirelli. I got mine before that promotion, was rm250 rrp but got 10% off. But no regrets even though its not exactly cheap.
