Would be cool to have it for iOS especially those amoled device right? + power saving feature biggrin.gif

On iOS 12, i like the do not disturb, and notification too. And the memoji looks nice at least not creepy.
and watchOS is like a poison to me getting one loL.

So here's what I like so far...

- Group FaceTime
- Third Party Nav support on CarPlay
- Screen time (wife complains I spend too much time with my phone and she's right, haha)

I also can't wait to see how older devices (like my mum's iPhone 5S and my son's iPad Mini 2) get quicker with iOS 12 as claimed.

It's phenomenal the 6 year old 5s will still be supported. Kudos to Apple.

I was hoping for that back in ios 11 but recently think its not so much a must have. I don't see my friend with the S9 using it that much. How about you guys? Anyone current/ previous owners used split screen a lot?

Same here. Happy my spare 5S still getting love. Only hope no lag or anything.

One more important feature - notifications are going to be grouped. Finally. Correct me if I am wrong.

The new camera features kinda like the Google/ Pixel right?

It’s been a positive experience so far in terms of speed and stability. Disappointed no dark mode but temporarily using smart invert to get the dark mode even though not actual system dark mode.

sorry for late reply

I would say 10.3 was faster and more responsive compared to iOS 12 beta.

But this still being on beta, i won't conclude just yet

I don't think that's an available option anymore. Best try updating to 11.4. How's your battery wear level?

Try 11.4, but your batt issues should be hardware related not iOS.

Most feedback and reviews I read so far says the 12 beta is one of the more stable ones, but if you’re worried about it and the phone is your primary device, maybe don’t go ahead with it laugh.gif

That's pretty fast. Since there's not much new features and the beta is quite stable, it'd be good to get iOS 12 earlier, but I'm sure Apple will traditionally wait till September.

I’m noticing that the screen time function have a bug, disabled app limit and downtime but it still disables my apps that I didn’t whitelist at a random time sometimes the phone would crash(respring) and my apps wont be available(even entering screen time passcode doesn’t work) until I hard reset my iPhone. This started happening in beta 2 where I had the screen time function enabled. Anyone else facing this issue? iPhone 7 beta 2

Yup, I'm on developer version but roughly the same as the public beta without the bugs addressed.

Haven't tried group facetime cause not a lot of my friends use iOS devices.

What I'm liking is the group notification and how smoother it is than iOS 11 even on my older iP5S

i think all that on the fence about ios12 should upgrade. im using it with my primary phone and its loads better than the previous update.

the face id is a tad quicker, animation improved a bit, battery life seems to be pretty decent, and loads of new stuff like custom animoji, group facetime, measure apps (for augmented reality) etc.

thou experience might be vary. personally for myself im very satisfy with the outcome. thou i really wish for dark mode to be a reality... but well....

im on dev beta.

anyways i got intense today so im going to separate my usage in hours.

im at 30% and my full charge cycle is around 11.30pm yesterday.

what i can see over here right now, ive been using my iphone for almost 5 hours in total:

1. 4 hours 20 minutes for social networking
2. 15 minutes for games
3. 1 minute for reading and references

IOS 12 screen time lets me see how long ive been using my iphone and i got to say its freaking awesome feature.

so 5 hours non stop and still have around 30% of battery life. is it good? is it not? u guys decide for urself

oh and if anyone asking, im on iphone x

Theoretically the iPhone 8 Plus battery should last longer than the X, but based on my usage for both, they are about the same.

actually X battery larger. iPhone 8 Plus 2691 mAH, iPhone X 2716 mAH. slightly bigger capacity.

Attached Image Attached Image

X screen size also slightly larger. X is 5.8-inch while 8 Plus 5.5-inch

True, but I’ve read most reviews and test results that confirm the 8 Plus edges the X in battery life comparisons.

Maybe due to the OLED screen since iOS is mostly still white-themed and the higher pixel count of the ipx display ~ 32% more than ip8+.

A lot of improvements have been made on screen time. Unfortunately still too complicated to my liking especially when trying to set it up remotely to child's device.

just updated DB5.

as usual, nothing much change. thou i did monitor my status apps and the CPU went lower than the last update. hovering around 2% - 5% when idling which is quite rare.
as for battery life, i need to monitor more.

Just joined the beta bandwagon, had to do a setting reset because my notification center font is too huge, my settings is set to small. Overall the experience is smooth, been running it for 24 hours now.

Yeah, the focus was on refining the faults if the 11 and not on introducing new features, hence everyone is slamming the lack of "innovation". Maybe Apple should have had a release 11.5 for all these and something revolutionary for 12.

In all fairness though, there was nothing much of note in Android P as well.

i personally dont feel anything new about ios12. some minor changes and not too extravagant. the focus is on the stability and i admit this is the most stable IOS that i have ever encountered. from the get go the focus of ios12 is for stability (and power saving in the process...)

well yeah not much innovation on iOS 12 but i appreciate the gesture for them to make it as stable as it can be. but that's just me.

I think the best bit about iOS 12 is that it speeds up older devices. I'm just looking forward to see how much difference it will make in my mum's iPhone 5S laugh.gif

I did some searching on youtube, turns out ip6 will benefit more than ip5s in terms of performance.

Weird. soc A7 and A8 aren't that different in terms of CPU. only got huge upgrade in GPU

I'm kinda looking forward to seeing Group FT though, since my family members are all using i-devices and we FT quite a bit. Anyways I guess there are some bugs in it that need ironing out, which is why they have delayed it.

And FT uses 258MB data on a 1hr 37m call via 4G.
Does it mean it consume high data or low data?

my FT yesterday around 5 minute yields 14.8mb.
WhatsApp video around 5 minute yields 17mb.

thus, FT consume less data but retain high quality of video.

for your case, I believe ur data consumption would be higher using WhatsApp video

Just jumped straight from 11.4 to 12 Public Beta 9 and wow I’m amazed but how fluid the user interface and experience is now. Too early to comment on battery life now, it seems to be draining a bit faster for now but that’s probably the indexing/caching happening.

Just found another useful feature in iOS 12. You don’t need to turn all Bluetooth and wifi to turn on hotspot.

Yes, setting the phone’s date a few days back seems to solve it. I believe this should be a simple fix on Apple’s side as for some reason the phone thinks there is a newer update.

seeing that Apple's conference is just a few days to go, yea. Can expect them to release GM version when iPXs (and the rest) are announced.

Ya, the new iOS usually goes official on the day of the launch or on the next day. Could be a week or two before we get it though.

Same as me ...I act similarly too on my other Androids. I am not concerned about what other users said as there are both positive and negative comments. Self assessment is best.

But as what this person shared was, in order to use the Wave, need to sign up Wave Beta Tester first

On ip7+ it feels slightly faster than previous ios.

Ive noticed that they removed screen recording and my camera seems bugged.

When i take video it seems to be dimmed while photo works fine.

Yes, as Waze is not yet optimized for IOS 12. If they had, you would have had an update right after you updated your OS.

My iphone 6+ feels snappier now on ios 12. It used to be there's a huge lag when change screen orientation & opening keyboard.

My iphone 7 need sometime to play around to figure out the improvements.

Loving the Screen Time & additional Battery Charge level info.

Measure app is pretty cool. Took awhile for me to figure out how to accurately measure.

I think this is to cater to those phones with a notch cuz on iPhone 10 we have to swipe down to see remaining battery %.

Quick summary of my update to iOS12 on iPhone 10:

1. Lost about 2GB of memory.
2. Doesn't actually feel more snappier. I guess it wasn't really slow to begin with on iOS11.
3. Battery seems to last slightly longer. Not very much but you can feel it.
4. Finally won't be taking accidental screenshots when screen is lock.
5. Cleaner notifications.

Other than that, there are a ton of minor changes but it doesn't really affect my standard daily use.

FaceID still feels same to me. If it gets to the level of Face Unlock on OnePlus or other Android devices, then I’ll feel it’s fast. Now it still takes like 1 second.

I'm not discussing security. Of course with the IR sensors and all FaceID is more secure.
I'm just talking speed bro tongue.gif

It's not a gimmick. It works for unlocking your device.
For payments these phones usually have another fingerprint sensor.
As I mentioned above security is a whole different issue but my main point is FaceID works about the same in terms of speed for iOS11 and 12 biggrin.gif

AI face unlock or whatever they name it is a gimmick, of course it will work by unlocking you phone but how it works is just basic AF, so kinda pointless comparing speed between them.

and yea i get your main point, basically just optimisation slightly better than 11, wondering how much faster is the new ipx as apple claimed

The faster those ‘elementary’ ‘face id’ the more insecure it is. Meaning lesser check is done.

Same for fingerprint sensor, the faster it is does not mean it is better. Importantly it is the hardware and the security mechanism.

iOS 12: How to customize Grouped Notifications

QUOTE
By default, notifications are set to Automatic, which groups them intelligently. Your other options are By App, which will pile all your notifications for that one app into a single group, or Off, which reverts it to the classic style of showing every notification individually.

ios 12 on ip5s:

in terms of responsiveness, feels like using ios 10.3.3 again. but I do found minor hiccups here and there. But overall, it is a good upgrade from ios 11.

also, ram management has been improved. less reloading compared to ios 11. so I can back and forth from app A to app B and vice versa without issue

There are but not the exact original type. It’s a mov/mp4 file which you have to use app to convert to live wallpaper. It is not 100% uncompressed like the original and it doesn’t have the reverse animation when you lift your finger from the 3D Touch.

Measure app for ip6s n ip7?

can. it allows a totally different face to unlock the phone. and both faces will tie to the same apple id. but if you want to remove either one of the face later, you must remove both and not just one of them.

I dunno about iphone6s, my iphone 6+ doesn't have that app. So I played around with my iphone 7 instead since it can do AR stuff.

It seems that the app can accurately measure stuff on a flat surface. On the wall however, it's off by 2-3 inches

Judging from all the responses here, looks like ios12 is a good update. Will update mine now. But not sure what to look for in terms of speed since i still feel mine is fast.

I know shortcut is not something new but is really godsend feature

Now with a single touch, Siri will greet me, tell me the weather and battery level, then inform me my calendar schedule and check my reminders, then lastly, ask me how i wanna start my day with choice of fb, reddit, tweeter, etc.

Start using it every morning to start a glimse into my day.

Same here bro, major ones i always go for clean install. It is always recommended.

OTA should have no issues too, but i'm trying to avoid minor problems, if really unlucky and that happens, that time also have to reset la this la that la, so might as well do a clean install from the start. icon_rolleyes.gif

For those who wanted to do a clean install, it is really easy for iPhone. But do remember to always perform a BACKUP!

I will leave the link of step by step guide below:-
https://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-clean-ins...12-final-guide/

How do i checked my on screen time since last full charge/unplug like in iOS11 in the battery section?

In iOS12 i can only see on screen time for the past 24 hours or 7 days in the screen time section.

P/S: Abt battery health, mine increase from 95% to 97% after iOS12 update. It seems like battery health is no more beta.

WhatsApp is a bit unstable right now on my device after updating to iOS12. Often it the app just became all white and I can’t do anything. Close the app and open it back again usually fix it. But it is a bit annoying.

Thanks for info, Citibank is rather slow in updating their app to the latest iOS or iPhones. When iPhone X was released it took Citibank a few months to update their app. I hope this time they do it faster. I usually update my iOS 2weeks after the release date. I’m cautious here can’t afford to have errors during updates. This is from previous experience.

Hi, updated ytd and feel quite smooth and fast. However my phone most of the time will go into freeze mode. Like I’m unable to press anything and the screen just stays there. But weird is i can scroll but unable to oress any features then few seconds it works back

For keyboard, sometimes took some time to appear the words after I type. Like lagging.

Got... have been using swiftkey for a good few years from android to iOS. I just like the flow as I can just slide across the kb without typing each and every alphabet. And its easier to put in punctuation

I think Waze heating up your phone is pretty normal though. Most navigation apps do that smile.gif

I need to refresh and only it will back to normal/ pressable.

Anyone can enlighten this? Sigh!

Anyone here knows how to switch between simplified and traditional Chinese by selecting the text? Used to be able to do it before iOS 12, with Google keyboard, now there is no such option

i updated to IOS12.0.1

i dont know whether it just my feeling or not

from IOS11, my battery drain normally (since i always turn on the save battery on)

update to IOS12, the battery drain quite bad (even with save mode ON), usually it can last almost a day, now just few hours

eg: 100% (8am), 30%(12pm), previously 100% to 30% (8am- 3pm or 4pm like that)

normal usage (fb/insta/whatsapp/youtube)

After a couple of days on iOS 12, I updated to iOS 12.0.1 on my Xs Max, and I do feel the battery consumption isn't as good on 12.0.1 vs 12. Anyways, it's marginal at this point and could just be a placebo effect. Will monitor further and see...

Guys,

Anyone having issues in updating from iOS 12.1 public beta 5 to the official release over OTA? I've deleted the beta profile and when I checked for update it gives me iOS 12 instead and the file comes in at a hefty 2.79GB.

Not sure why it's downgrading to iOS 12 first because usually it would just update to the final release version. I've already checked the build number is not the same so I guess public beta 5 is not the same as the final release.

Just an update, I've successfully updated to iOS12.1 via OTA. Just proceed to download the update even though it states you'll be downloading iOS 12, those with iOS 12.0.1 will only get about 400mb++ update size.

I got an email notification on my lock screen. Cleared it but it keeps reappearing on my lock screen. This is like 2 days old email notification. Only this email is persistent. Other emails dun show up
Tried clear it a few times still coming back to haunt me 😞

I tried with 2 iPhones and 1 iPad but all 3 are connected to the same WiFi.
It works.
One disadvantage now is I cannot remove anyone from the group.
Now this group is stuck with these 3 parties.
Hope on the next IOS update, there is option to remove from the group.

Edit.
Played around, managed to delete the whole group.
