I have been going through the channel listings for the various packages and options. What happened to the news channels from 500 onwards? How do I subscribe to News in the new offerings?

Astro now message me to activate disney+ hotstar "free for 3 months" even though my plan isn't eligible. The catch is they quoted my correct account and smartcard numbers in the sms.
What's the catch?

The message text just says:
"RM0 ASTRO REWARDS: TQ for being our loyal customer! Enjoy 3-months Disney+Hotstar until 28 Feb at NO CHARGE to your bill! Activate at https://l.astro.as/<deleted>"

And when I click on the link, it takes me to the activation page. Haven't done that yet as I don't have a movies pack, definitely not eligible.

Instead, I think you're getting the 3-month subscription worth of Disney+ Hotstar subscription. So basically, the 'contract' will be 3 month.
"Until 28 Feb"' it says... So this means that from 1 March, your Astro bill shall be charged for RM54.90 for your Disney+ Hotstar subscription for 3 months.
You can choose not to renew it after the 3 month ends.

I think they come out this strategy (give you first 3 months free, and then hope that you'll like it, or just forget about it and continue paying RM54.90/3 months from the 4th month onwards), is because they want to make it look like there is an increase of Astro customers using/interested on Disney+ Hotstar.

Otherwise, just ignore that "free offer".
Do note that there are many shows in Disney+ Hotstar does not offer either or both English / Chinese subtitles, but Malay subtitles is almost guarantee will have.

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, I tend to be forgetful, there's a high chance I'll end up paying rm54.90 in March.
I'll probably hold out for a better offer. Rm5 per month maybe?? smile.gif

Generally I find you can get your old channels, and usually slightly cheaper. However, that's if you sign up for the 24-month auto renewal deal. Which I'm not so keen on doing... 10 bucks less per month, but 24-month contract...

Ah, I was trying to set up a package with all my current "legacy" channels in. Maybe that's why only 10 ringgit less. But it's "saving" 10 ringgit/month with 24-month contract.

And Astro doesn't have a good track record of treating existing subscribers well when they have new offerings, so I might be stuck in future...

Anybody facing signal issues with the 8xx sports channels? Mine are up and down. But other channels e.g. 5xx news are fine!

Certainly makes sense to Astro.
2nd decoder gets them 50 ringgit, got to supply decoder and maintain. This one you download and install yourself, no extra cost to them, yet they get 30 bucks for nothing...

The reason I can think of is maybe the movie is taken of their content library and no longer accessible.
Or maybe you package does not include the say channel thus not able to access the content despite able to search in the content library.

I think you are still talking about Astro Smart TV. The current chat is about installing the Astro on the Go app. So there's no need to pay another subscription.
