All late night to early morning....

Really major one...

Change channels to new satellites???

Nah... What I see is usually when they have "system upgrades", their billing and purchases will be temporarily unavailable. They do it late night due to lower traffic mah...

They've been doing system upgrades many times in the past, yet I don't see anything that benefit us also.

Astro tie-up with WBD seen as a positive move
https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...a-positive-move

QUOTE
PETALING JAYA: CGS-CIMB Research is hopeful over the teaming-up of Astro with Warner Bros Discovery Inc (WBD) of the United States, in relation to it’s offer of the latter’s streaming service Max.

Max is a combination of the content of HBO Max and Discovery+, and will be made available in the United States by WBD on May 23, while the rest of the world will have access to the new service some time next year.

Of note, CGS-CIMB Research quoted WBD president and chief executive for global streaming and games Jean-Briac Perrette’s remark that the “HBO” name is “not exactly where parents would most easily drop off their kids” – referring to the adult-oriented, slow-burn, and prestigious programming that HBO is usually associated with – which could be taken to mean the renaming may also be an integral exercise.

The securities firm said Max’s international launches will be taking place through 2024, including to “key Asia-Pacific territories”, while concurring with Perrette’s comment on the rebranding of HBO Max to Max.

CGS-CIMB Research explained the rationale from the Malaysian angle in its note: “Members of the (Malaysian) public still ask us of the significance of HBO Max in Astro Malaysia’s streaming-integration strategy, when it has already offered HBO Go for the past four years.”

The research unit also called the HBO Max name a “misnomer”, as the streaming service has content from other studios that HBO’s parent Home Box Office Inc owns, a portfolio that had significantly expanded over decades of mergers and acquisitions, with the most important involving Warner Bros Entertainment Inc and tycoon Ted Turner’s media assets.

Some of the latter included Turner Broadcasting System networks, CNN, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s (MGM) film library for titles released between 1924 to 1986. Warner Bros, meanwhile, has been around since 1923, and owns filming rights for DC Comics and popular franchises like Harry Potter, Ocean’s Heist film series, and The Matrix.

CGS-CIMB Research analyst Kamarul Anwar said that in theory, the more streaming providers Astro teams up with, the less it would need to rely on linear channels that are aggravating subscribers with constant reruns.

He said: “This could lower Astro’s content cost risks and build more incremental revenue. Given the robustness of WBD’s production library, we are of the view that Max would be an integral component to Astro’s strategy to lure back lapsed subscribers by combining linear TV with streaming into one Internet-enabled decoder, fortified by a bundling with high-speed broadband services.”

Kamarul believes that while many Malaysians are still gravitating to Netflix, legacy Hollywood studios will eventually isolate their titles from third-party subscription based video-on-demand services to beef up their own business.

CGS-CIMB Research has maintained its “add” call on parent Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd with a target price of 86 sen, adding that a potential re-rating catalyst is privatisation in the media sector which could boost interest in the group.

If you're using Ulti or Ultra Box, you can restore factory settings and then select "IPTV Plug & Play (self-install)".

Need some help.
I'm moving house and need to know what to do.
Currently have astro full package.
Unifi 100mbps

I am planing to downgrade astro with WiFi 30mbps.
Do I terminate and reapply or how do I downgrade and sign up for astro and WiFi together?
Will they also provide home phone?

QUOTE(Davird @ Apr 25 2023, 10:58 AM)
Yes contract over.
So I just have to terminate my current package. Then resubscribe to a new package with internet?
Astro is mainly for my mom. I live on mobile now and don't really need internet at home.
So something minimal to watch Netflix is all I need the internet for.
*

Will they also provide home phone?
Nope. Once you terminate or transfer from Unifi to other ISP, you will lose your house phone number too.
As of now, Astro Fibre does not offer home phone service.
QUOTE(Davird @ Apr 25 2023, 03:58 PM)

Seems simple. So let's see.

Astro Fibre? How about the Astro TV pack?

Might as well go for Zee5 apk, its rm10.90 on astro and only rm 89.90 annually direct from zee5 with more then what astro offers, dolby atmos offered!
*

Tip: I found out that Zee5 app on Ulti/Ultra Box supports up to Full HD and Stereo audio only, similar to Disney+ Hotstar app on Ulti/Ultra Box.
So if you want to enjoy Dolby Atmos and 4K HDR streaming quality on Zee5, please use the Zee5 app on your own Android TV OS device.

In conclusion, due to its hardware/software limitations, all streaming apps you see on Ulti/Ultra Box are limited up to Full HD and Stereo audio only, except the Netflix app.
Netflix is the only streaming app on Ulti/Ultra Box that supports Dolby Atmos and 4K UHD playback.
So do manage your expectation ya.

Unifi plus box can play 4K and Dolby Atmos for all apps though. Zee5 available. But if you are astro customer then full HD is good enough
*

Because Ulti/Ultra Box isn't like Unifi Plus Box which is running on Android TV OS.
Ulti/Ultra Box is running on Linux which I'm sure it is a custom made proprietary OS. My best guess why they still go ahead with proprietary today is either because of legacy security/encryption related, or maybe it's due to contract/agreement related at the mercy of the hardware/software vendor, or both.

Walked in to astro center at damansara utama.
Forget it, given a number that was 30+ away. even though had apointment. Was told need to wait for an hour or more.
Walked away.

My mother needs Indian channels.
So probably just need that only.
I've got netflix subscribed already for the rest.

I was told that I can get fiber with base package + Tamil + movie package (for the other two Tamil movie channel)
Is that right?

Also, at the new place, will they pull the wire for satellite for me? Or do I need to do it myself? I saw there existing wiring there but it's not at the location I want.
*

I was told that I can get fiber with base package + Tamil + movie package (for the other two Tamil movie channel)
Is that right?

Yes, correct. Here's the breakdown:

Movies Pack RM94.99 + Indian Favourites RM14.99 = RM109.98 + 6% SST = RM116.58

------------------
Since you mentioned you've got Netflix, assuming that you are the owner of the account (not shared) and if you want bundle it with Astro subscription, here's how much it cost:

Movies Plus Pack RM129.99 + Indian Favourites RM14.99 = RM144.98 + 6% SST = RM153.68

With the price above, you'll be getting Netflix Standard (2 screens, Full HD) plan. If you want Netflix Premium (4 screens, 4K UHD) plan, just topup another RM9.43 (RM10 after SST).
------------------

For Astro Fibre, 50Mbps is RM99, 100Mbps RM129, 500Mbps RM189, 800Mbps is 249Mbps.
If you bundle Astro Fibre with Astro TV subscription, you might get additional monthly rebate.
To get confirmation on the price, I suggest contact Astro sales for more info on this, since their promos are constantly changing, hence amount of rebates/"freebies" will also be different too.

Also, at the new place, will they pull the wire for satellite for me? Or do I need to do it myself? I saw there existing wiring there but it's not at the location I want.
If that's the case, just tell the installer to lay new satellite cable for you, and pretend that existing wiring there doesn't exist.

At this point, I believe all of us already know very clear that Astro is desperate of don't want any more customers terminating Astro.
So just be "nice" when you explain why you want to terminate Astro, and I'm pretty sure they will propose some churn offers to you, such as RM___ rebates for XX months and/or free preview of _____ pack for XX days/months.

Of course, don't give reasons that would discourage them from proposing churn offers to you, especially if you tell them that you despise/resent Astro very much.
You can made up your story and try to sweet talk by saying things like "I really still want to continue Astro, but my financial is kinda tight now..."

Do we have to return any equipment to Astro when cancelling the services ?
*
QUOTE(nexona88 @ May 1 2023, 04:36 PM)
According to their T&C, yes, they have the right to tell you to return the Astro box upon service cancellation, including the smart card/SIM card.
The CS agent will advise you accordingly if you need and how to return the equipment.

But in reality, it depends. Sometimes they do let customer keep it.
If you want to keep your Astro box upon cancellation (probably due to sentimental value), try lying telling them "I want to keep the box, so that I can use back the same box if I want to continue Astro service in the future."

Of course logically speaking, don't expect them to let you keep the Astro box especially if you terminate before contract ends or your Ulti/Ultra Box is barely 1 year old, or you tell them you're migrating to other country.

Yeah. Imagine if Astro assign installer to come over and collect the equipment, they will need to pay the installer too.
Or, if Astro tell you to walk in to service centre to return the equipment, that means you need to waste your time and money (e.g. car petrol) to go all the way there to return the equipment.

Might as well, if they let you keep, then just keep.
After some time, who knows Astro's winback team might call you and offer you RM___ rebate for XX months and/or free preview of ________ Pack for XX months/days.
At least give them hope mah cool2.gif

Or you can send it to the e-waste bin:
