QUOTE(izwanikhsan @ Feb 25 2022, 07:27 PM) No. Only NHK the Japanese channel on Astro. While for Korean, Astro carry KBS World, ONE, TVN, TVN Movies & K+. Figures. I don't think people that consume Japanese media and also subscribe to Astro overlaps. Hence why they don't bother with GEM and even dropping Animax. Meanwhile, majority of those watching Japanese medium would likely has Unifi, which Animax and GEM there makes sense doubleM2 liked this post

Seems that Astro is sharing J-League rights with SPOTV, as both will be showing live matches concurrently starting next week doubleM2 liked this post

QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 28 2022, 08:13 AM) The problem with Astro package is that either you choose a group of Chinese program or Indian or Malay. You don't have the freedom to mix and match. I want to watch NHK but unless I subscribed to Dynasty (I think) I cannot watch it. Same issue here. I subscribed NHK on Unifi TV previously, but since NHK has a rule that NHK won't be available on any IPTV anymore, that went out of the window |

QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 28 2022, 08:23 AM) The program in Unifi and Astro is different. I wonder why. During Red and White Year-End Festival I did not see the program in Unifi Unifi only carries NHK World now. Previously they had NHK Premium, which is the same that Astro has. But in April last year, NHK stopped NHK Premium from being shown on IPTV services (which is why you can't get NHK Premium on Astro plug and play, only on Astro with Satellite. ). doubleM2 liked this post

QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 28 2022, 03:44 PM) Program from overseas for sure will not have Malay subtitles just like cartoon but even cartoons have it. Meaning Astro expects the subtitle is provided by program providers? Subtitles are usually always provided by channel provider, unless the channel is in house. Not only Astro mind you, but other broadcaster like Unifi TV does this as well. For example when Unifi TV got channels from KC Global Media Asia, some like GEM were without Malay subtitles for a few months because KC Global didn't provide it for Unifi TV |

I really wish that Astro would do what Sky in the UK does, and include DVB-T2 tuner ports on their STB for OTA channels in combination with their pay channels.

QUOTE(Zot @ Mar 1 2022, 08:07 AM) FWIW, their mixing hardware might downscale it to HD. I remember RTM Sports, which would show direct feed in HD, but if they are mixing in the feed (picture in picture to show behind their talk panel or host for example) would have blurry, downscaled feed 480p images. It was horrible Qash-M liked this post

QUOTE(Zot @ Mar 2 2022, 08:07 AM) Don't forget and many TV now has upscaler that might smoothen the image that obscure pixelation. The old movie in even 70's has enough information even to convert to UHD. So, it depends on the process quality when digitizing the old program. I see no problem to convert to HD. Nah. Just take one look at the Al Hijrah logo at any programme they are showing and you can definately see it's not HD, upscaling or notThe MyFreeView program list shows which programs are in HD and which are not (unless not updated) https://www.israk.my/myfreeview-tv-channels ![]() doubleM2 liked this post

Note, Formula 3 next weekend (F1 Support Race) would be on Arena 2, and not on Supersport 5 for some reason.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 17 2022, 09:31 AM) It seems to me that they might be working on their smart TV app. But still, if they don't let us login and test it out, there's nothing much to comment much about it. It's for those that were paying RM1 per month for beta testing previously IIRCBut I think the UI of the closed test smart TV app is either similar or more trashy than Ultra Box UI. It says it is for closed beta testers, so I guess only selected Astro staffs or some VIPs get access to it? |

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 17 2022, 12:49 PM) Anyhow, since they didn't make it public, that means the app is likely to be problematic, in my opinion laa.. I honestly think there is nothing wrong with the app, and they can release it now and there will be minimal complaints. I think Astro is just holding back due to them introducing the new Ultra Box, and wanting to tie people in to their box as a one stop experience. Hence all the apps that Astro are planning for the box. Once they recouped this investment, then we will finally see the smart tv APP version. Better they fix whatever software problems and those small little irritating issues before they rollout to the public, or else you'll see me ranting and bashing them here. 🙄 Imagine the uproar if they release the smart tv app now. people who has invested in the new Ultra Box, or being forced into getting it would be pissed off. |
