It's not that Astro "forget"...
I can see that Astro is gradually moving away from IPTV platform, and embrace OTT platform to cater both TV and your smart devices.
Astro IPTV with Maxis / TIME Fibre is still the same old package rates to new customers, like 10Mbps RM148/month all those. Because they stingy? Maybe.
Although Astro IPTV with TIME Fibre, they've upgraded its existing customers to 100Mbps and above for free, but it doesn't apply for new customers.
But it is assumable is because of the agreement between them (Astro and ISPs), that's why they're unable to revise/offer new package price to new Astro IPTV customers.
And the costs to operate IPTV, maybe Astro don't find it that feasible anymore? By moving to OTT platform/medium, it can be 1 platform that can cater both set-top-box (e.g. Ultra Box) and Astro Go.
Also, last time Astro introduces Astro IPTV to overcome customers issues that stay in condo/buildings that uses the older centralised dish systems. Now for those that already in coverage, they're able to enjoy PVR service on PVR box, and (also the workaround) to solve the signal conflict issue with HD channels where they're unable to watch all/some HD channels, and many others, which I'd explain if someone is interested to know, because it's damn technical that you might get bored and yawn.
Now, I believe many of you guys realised is, whatever VOD content you see on Astro Go, is also what you'll get on Astro Ultra Box. Because Astro consolidate it into 1 platform.
Sounds like kill 2 birds with 1 stone, right? So why not?
With OTT, as long the device (either the STB or Astro Go) is connected to Internet, you can get the services instantly already.
Just like when you subscribe to Netflix, as long you connect your device to Internet, you can get your shows already.
No need to configure those complicated router settings, like those VLAN, works only on LAN cable, "dedicated bandwidth for TV service", and others. It's kinda complicated for Astro IPTV, and even Unifi TV...
And since consumers likes things simple, so Astro and even now Unifi TV is moving towards this trend with their Unifi TV Plus box and their latest unifi playTV app too.
In contrast to Astro & Broadband, your Astro TV service rely for satellite dish for signal, while Internet service provided by ISP (Maxis Fibre), both works as standalone (as if both doesn't have full dependencies with each other), and billing is all under one Astro bill but with some monthly rebates that lasts throughout the contract period.
The main advantage on Astro IPTV that Astro & Broadband still can't fully "replace" is, the legendary and infamous rain fade issue.
Despite many Malaysians would blame Astro for that, but the nature of using Ku band satellite is really like that one. Reason also very technical, so better just search on Google if you wanna know.
But as you can see that Astro implements cloud DVR feature, where now you can restart your programme ("Play from Start") on Ultra Box and Astro Go.
This could be a good sign that they might be heading towards this direction that allows viewers to switch or maybe auto-switch to Internet OTT based when there's no satellite signal due to rain fade issue.
But still, it takes time.
🤔, so in the future, Astro would be like, you want uninterrupted experience? Switch to Ultra box and convert the account to astro and broadband and sign 24 month contract, hopefully with seamless switching between DTH and IP instead of currently where you'll need to press "play from start" and fast forward all the wayI can see that Astro is gradually moving away from IPTV platform, and embrace OTT platform to cater both TV and your smart devices.

Currently, cloud recording/PVR function on Astro go is kinda buggy as well, sometimes the playback would stop halfway and say network error(it would not resume/ continue/load) and I need to select "play from start" to get it working again( internet connection is fine)
