use the 7800 for ur upcoming rig and get a cheapo 7300GT or 8500GE to use temporarily for ur AMD rig

at the end of the year... upgrade and sell off the cheapo card la.. then the 7800 put back into the AMD rig

thats what i would do.

How do you people get unlisted smilies displayed??  shocking.gif

Ya, somebody did mention that since the 8800 GTX/Ultra is king of the hill, newer Nvidia cards won't come out yet and the prices won't drop so soon......

DDR3? Nah...... too early to go for DDR3, maybe after 2009.....
*
i find the smileys i want...

host them up on image shack...

and use the [img] tags tongue.gif

one of the reasons i keep it in my sig... if i need it just right click on it and click on "copy image location" and add in the [img] tags to it bruce.gif

EDIT: the reason i mentioned DDR3 is because from ur siggy u bought a P35 mobo... and im not too sure...but doesnt P35 mobos support DDR3 as well??? hmm.gif

Well, any recommendation (except changing HSF) on what to do to lower the temperature of the card?Changing TIM would help?

I was planning a Side Panel Fan for it but need to wait for it from ATE. Other than that, i have no idea what to do, and coupled with my NB and SB chipset cooler facing the fan of my 8800, its really as hot as hell currently though..
*
same here....i was thinking of getting an extra side panel from ATE and cut out 2x120mm blowholes to supply the GC with all the cool air...only problem is dust sweat.gif need to find them fan filters tongue.gif

QUOTE(ben_panced @ Jul 16 2007, 10:49 PM)
try setting ur fan speed to 100% by using riva tuner...
i think the noise is still acceptable because the max an speed do not exceed 3500rpm
*
i cant even bear the noticeable noise at 80% man. so i leave it at permanent 60% for now

The 8800GS/GTX/Ultra, will the heat actually degrade the performance of the GPU ? Judging from all the feedback, adding fan seems wont help much on reducing the heat = =
*
depends on where u add the fan...

i tried opening up my side panel once with no fan and the temp remained the same...

then i tried opening up the side panel and add a fan blowing air to the GC fan and the temp dropped 7deg!...if i turn on the aircond itll definately drop even more... up to 12 deg.

so yeah...adding a fan will help...

i myself am panning to buy a second lian li side panel just to cut 2x120mm blow holes there for the GC. even got the evercool aluminium frame fan for it. only problem now is finding filters sweat.gif

Well, i do not want that to happen though. I went to scratch my head on what to do in the meantime until i get my side panel fan. Realised that i can put back the "ugly" 25cm fan of my LL to cool it off but heck, i went with a DIY 2 * 12cm LL fan i have spare to cool them off. LOL..Just tied them using wire to the side panel to cool off the GC, nb and sb..

Just need to wait and see how it goes..Only worried about dust problem as off now...As a start, its idling at 54c now when i just switch on my PC. Normally, it will be at around 58c.
*
so bro....any update on load and idle temps now??

have they improve with use or are they still the same?

QUOTE(00007kel @ Jul 23 2007, 11:15 PM)
i oWN a MSI 8800GTX OC (610 core, 2000 mem)

Initial GPU diode idle temp was at around 62-63C which was kinda high...

using Riva tuner, i adjusted the fan to 100% speed, and managed to drop temps to around 59-60.... i also added an 80mm fan to exhaust hot air from the aluminium fins (dumping heat into my casing tho... but its a Stacker and the Gcard is right below the PSU's 14cm fan so no worries  laugh.gif )

however, its STILL kind of high for me.. so what i did was remove the stock heatsink and replaced the thermal pads and poorly applied thermal paste with MX-1... However even after the break in period of 200 hours... temps only dropped by 1C....

Then i realised..... there was quite a gap between the heatsink at the memory chips + GPU (which explains the initial usage of thermal pads and massive amounts of thermal paste).... So i used THICK double sided tape as 'washers' on the 11 screws in hopes to apply more pressure to maximise contact...

Ture enough... it only been like... 30 hours... still far from MX-1's optimal break-in period... i'm seeing idle temps of 52-54C!!!!!!!!! a whopping 10+/- degree drop!!! Woot! rclxms.gif  flex.gif  thumbup.gif

Memory temps dropped from 52 to 47, and ambient temps from 47 to 44. smile.gif

i haven't measured my Load temp tho.... but no worries... bet it'll b low as well.. haha. icon_rolleyes.gif

BDW... with such temp readings... tempted to OC to 230 core n 2200 mem.... hahaha.... *itchy fingers*
*
yeah bro....give some pix... get real good closeups....

QUOTE(rockmaniac85 @ Jul 24 2007, 10:56 AM)
hmmm, there something really wrong with your gc.. anyone else using gigabyte 8800gts 320mb? my evga is quite hot too actually, idle at 66, load will go to 75, but that's about it.. fan speed @ 60%..
*
my BFG was around the same actually...did u cover the vent holes? i did it with masking tape and i think it improved the temps a little as the fan isnt recycling hot air. previously idling at 70..last i checked it was idling at 63.

i guess so. coz logically thinking those vent holes will be emitting hot air back into the casing.. and the nearest fan to the holes would be the GC Cooler fan...

but then keep in mind that i also just upgraded my rig. but logically it shouldnt effect the temps. cable management etc etc etc are all the same. and i also havent been able to extensively test it out yet. coz im still in the midst of setting up my windows (installing software etc etc etc).

y not try it out...but id recommend using masking tape as theyre easier to take out in case u dont want them there.

theres also a thread in the cooling and hard modding section about DIY cheap replacing the 8800 fan. looks interesting so far with positive results. should check that out as well.

laugh.gif i know the feeling...everytime i look at the card i always take a peek in between and look at the thermal pads with disgust. i have to hold myself off from applying MX-1 or even AS5 on the heatsink laugh.gif

anyway... hope u do the simple mod and let us know the result yah...

EDIT: oh yeah... hope u take note of ur processor temperature and mobo temperature as well.. wanna know if there are any changes as i think those holes actually let out alot of hot air back into the case.

Well, its just that i am not too confident with the brand unless i tried one in some day (which i doubt). I do not like the brand itself (not related to the product) and the way it was packaged. But to be honest, the price is tempting, the product seems good as it comes with solid caps, good coolers etc..Heck, still not interested in it though..
*
with my past experience of colorful cards i seriousy say they shouldnt be underestimated. i was using a 9550 at the time.. the damn thing came with heatpipe cooler and rubycon caps. and the card OCs like mad i tell u drool.gif even with the dead fan on the cooler...the cards still OCs like mad.

sad to say i had itchy hands and decided to volt mod the card. then my hands got even more itchy and turned the pot up way too much increasing the VMem waaaaaaaaaayyyy over the specified limit so *poof* laugh.gif

anyway...ive ordered a 8600GT OC Edition from shawty for my HTPC...its to be paired with an Athlon64 2800+ s754 & Biostar TForce 6100 & 1GB DDR400.

QUOTE(temptation1314 @ Jul 25 2007, 10:50 AM)
I got quite a problem here.

Previously is 7300GTGC and now upgraded to 8800GTS OC edition.

Both als MSI.

I set my resolution to 1400 X 900 and it seems that I can adjust the sharpness option. All the font is out of focus.

Any idea is it my driver problem?
I'm using it on Samsung 19" 931BW Widescreen.

Thanks notworthy.gif

Added on July 25, 2007, 10:53 amOr is it my BIOS problem??
*
another forumer had the same problem as urs with the fonts.... check back past few pages... basically what he did was change the driver to the ones on the first page and kow tim.

I still can't solve the problem... I've go back a few pages but he didn't stated which files should be installed for widescreen ones.

Mind if anyone here can help me??
*
as stated above...drivers are on first page...

anyway...widescreen? im using 8800GTS on a 22" widescreen with the latest driver (158.22) which i downloaded from nvidia.com (for WinXP). no blur issues whatsoever. even tried the beta drivers from guru3d oso no issues. try re-setting ur monitor and see?? press the auto button and see what happens.

anything special about the GC other than the non-reference cooler? or is the card itself still on reference design? just the cooler is non-reference??

yeah....the zalman looks promising....but then itll be dumping the massice amounts of heat from the 8800 back into the case. wonder how itll affect the temps for other components.

thats a very high overclock on ur GC man...

have u tried lowering down the clocks? could be the card is being overly stressed due to the OC..

what about temps?
