thats the problem...its a rumor...whether or not itll actually come out is another thing.

the question of will the price drop below 1k for the 8800GTS 320mb...answer is most likely not. if u want it, ur gonna have to fork out 4 digits. otherwise theres the garage sales.

the ONLY brand ive seen gone below the 1k mark was Palit and that was in the Bulk Order Section....but last i checked (which was a few weeks ago) the price has gone back up above the 1k mark.

seriously, if ur thinking about it...go for it. just get the cheapest one u can find. the card is totally worth it IMHO. didnt regret paying the 4 digits for mine.

Added on August 26, 2007, 3:43 amoh yeah...the other day someone was asking about the temp of my A2ZS sandwiched between my 2 GCs....

FYI, its pretty friggin HOT! laugh.gif both front and back gets quite warm to the touch sweat.gif

ive also added an old NB heatsink onto the main chip. stuck there with 3M thermal tape icon_rolleyes.gif

yo kmarc...i read ur topic in the nvidia forums....

about the fan speed thingy....u can check out the first post. theres a link there to an 8800 fan speed guide.

i did it and it works....the steps are a little tedious...but it still works.

decided to try something to help with the cooling of my 2x 8800s...

previously it takes a while for the temps to go down from load to idle. so i added a 60mm fan in the HDD bay to help push some air from the front intake to the GC coolers..

bottom card benefitted alot from this....from load, the temps went down pretty quick to idle...even the idle temps has dropped...

top card however, is not receiving as much air as the bottom card...but its still benefitting from this... temps from load to idle drops pretty quick...but still not as fast as bottom card. idle temps has also dropped.

not really sure about load temps..as i started the PC and straight ran 1 round of CoH benchmark and 1 round of 3D Mark 05....

currently top card is idling stable at 63 and bottom card is at 56 thumbup.gif

Why not put a fan on top of the HDD to blow on the top GC? Looks like there some space on top of the HDD.....
*
if i put the fan on top of the HDD then none of the GCs will be getting air...the air from the fan will be blowing over the top of the card...

QUOTE(iZuDeeN @ Sep 1 2007, 08:53 AM)
put a ramsink on the sli bridge
*
QUOTE(Hyde`fK @ Sep 1 2007, 11:16 AM)
The SLI bridge won't get hot. Its the empty space in between the two cards that is hot.
*
EXACTLY! icon_rolleyes.gif the air around the sli bridge area gets hot...even my sidepanel on that side feels warm. need to figure out a way to exhaust the hot air from there.

QUOTE(HaHaNoCluE @ Sep 1 2007, 11:59 AM)
maybe u can install the hdd at the 5.25" bay n remove the hdd rack so the front intake fan can supply enough cold air directly to both ur gpu...  wink.gif
*
thought about that....but then all my hidden cables behind the HDD bay will be exposed! laugh.gif

besides...even if i did do it...im still gonna install another 120mm fan right before the GCs to help pull fresh air from the front intake (same thing like now la)....but at least now both my HDD and my GCs are benefiting from this setup cooling wise.

yeah...was using 158.22.

now im thinking of reverting back to 158.22 oso... but then the latest driver supposed to be better for lost planet..so ill stick to that for awhile more la

@kmarc
dun have ati tool to test out artifacts etc etc... so i just use 3dmark05 hence the reason i mentioned "3dmark05 stable" and not just "stable". besides..i only OC when im doing benchmarks... other than that, the GCs remains @ stock as even @ stock they can take alot of the current games.

eh eh...nono...i meant BEFORE SLI... actually any GC i use (even the AGP days)...OC only for benchmarks and normal usage @ stock as i didnt see a need to OC the GC for my gaming needs.

actually now SLI oso the GCs are @ stock biggrin.gif

bro..u using 8800gts 320mb in SLi rite...just wan to know how many percent performance increase if 320mb in SLi.. wub.gif
*
eerrrr...
3dmark05
single : 16.9k
SLI: 19.5k

CoH benchmark all settings high AA disabled
single: average FPS almost 80 (forgot exact figure)
SLI average FPS 113 (or around there)

QUOTE(arc_archive @ Sep 3 2007, 12:38 PM)
if not mistaken...maybe around 10%~12% only...

b4 this, ive read from western forum saying that,if u SLI'ing ur gc...the memory size wont be add up as such 320+320=640mb to use when using high res game,
thus reducing memory utilization as for high resolution game.dunno if this true o not..

but if it does true...better go to gtx or ultra as the memory utilization will be as much as default for those using uber high resolution.

yeah i was wondering about the ram thing as well... but in the end....im not moving from my 22" (eventhough ianho has been poisoning me with 30") so the ram thing shouldnt be an issue for me...

for 1680*1050 id go with 320mb....simply because of price and it also works perfectly on that reso...also most people dont upgrade their monitor that often. so dont really see a need to have that extra.

somehow i find the 640mb a little too 'expensive' (unless buying used at brand new 320mb prices). for my needs (1680*1050) i cant see any reason to justify the price for a 640mb.
