The reason why WeChat pay and alipay  dos o well in China is Because China have low credit card penatration.

Me too. fastforward into the future, my bet is the following will be the dominant e-wallets in Malaysia (not in any particular order)

- WeChat Pay
- Big Pay
- Grab Pay
- Touch N Go / AliPay (incollaboration or independently)

Also worth mentioning that the following has yet to reach our shores but has huge potential when they finally do.

- Apple Pay
- Google Pay

Samsung Pay totally skipped my mind. 
I guess Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay will provide the best user experience but they are a different kind of wallet. They will still have a sizable market to serve. Their success will more likely be restricted to the success restricted to the willingness of the banks.

I will put boost and vcash in the same category. Both are initiated by telco. I am just uncertain on how much stamina they have to compete.
I would like to see merchants accepting all types of cashless transactions too but it might not be possible due to the number of terminals required and their reconciliation will be a nightmare. Maybe this is where a 3rd party can come in (e.g. like MEPS but hopefully don't act like MEPS)

Wonder how long is the process? At least make an official announcement or press conference first, they should know that once the hype is gone, it's gone.

I'm unable to bind my card with my wechat wallet due to RMB. I tried to change my region to Malaysia but still in RMB.

I also sent feedback to their CS team 2 days ago. They also replied me saying the wallet will be make available within 2 weeks. but fruitie sent her feedback 1 week earlier than me, she also got the same feedback. dunno when is the last day of the '2 weeks'.

I don't see the attraction from Bigpay here, it's just your typical prepaid card that can be tracked via the app. The biggest problem for the card is it doesn't have the paywave feature, and it's been overrated on social media for some reason.

Doesn't that make prepaid cards like Mpay and CIMB Lazada card better prepaid card alternatives?

2 days ago I submitted feedback on WeChat Pay MY, my feedback content was something like "sorry to say. it is totally a bad idea to fool around wechat supporters with the fake news that wechat pay is launched in malaysia since june 2018. everybody is either asking why the upgrade takes forever or why the 2 weeks take forever. and no official announcement has been made in the official account."

today they replied with this: "to ensure for the better experience and services to all users, we will release the wallet service accordingly. kindly stay tune and sorry for the inconveniennce caused"

Maybe new government choose to protect local e wallet firm...which is good

im surprised too! anyway, do we really need a bank account and a number from China before activating wechat pay? one of my friends told me so and he did it during his trip to Beijing.
